239,000km glad to say no more pulsing for the HVAC. Over the hill this weekend getting filthy. I’ve taken out the exhaust flap switch as it wasn’t working and the car was a bit loud for my liking at the lower revs. Iv plugged the vac lines together and now the butterfly is closed shut. Have ordered a new switch but in the meantime it’s nice having it a bit quieter. I’m not sure when it failed but I felt it was louder than usual ages ago but didn’t realise there’s actually a solenoid that operates the exhaust flap, not just vacuum. Post gravel road wash I clay’d the entire car and applied a ceramic coating. A mate had sent me the last of a bottle of this hydro G9 to try out. Looking forward to seeing how this performs over winter. Got a new exhaust flap solenoid. Hooked it up and it’s working! Really happy with how it sounds now. Nice and quiet at low revs but sounds hearty after 3000rpm. in case anyone else is looking for it. It’s just below the tail light on the exhaust side.

Gave this final stage resistor another shot. Think I need a neck massage now. Got it done though. Old one dated 02 was quite different to the new one and it was a bit of a mission to get the new one in. So much so i was double checking part numbers to make sure this was the correct one. This is the top screw that is perpendicular to the steering column requiring (in my case) a cut down T20 driver Also replaced the rear glass switch and put the fuse back in. So far it's been behaving but I'm not holding my breath.

237,800km New fuel cap that was in the parts stash installed. Think it's an amazon job but seems to fit fine. Copied @Vass and got one of these air scoops. Was logging a trip I had done previously to compare intake temps but got side tracked by one of the 02 sensors reading higher than the other? Is this normal? Also got a final stage resistor as my fan pulses sometimes when its cranked up, but man it's a pain to install. I aborted the first try as i couldnt locate the top screw and ran out of time. Will try again tonight.

The trans from my old 540 that’s currently being wrecked (not the most recent rebuild but probably more recently rebuilt than most) would make this wagon a more financially viable proposition…

Fresh WOF. pretty excited about this. No notes but the mechanic did mention the fuel cap seal was perishing. I hadn’t noticed so had a look and what do you know…

237,000km oil + filter + VCG. The 02pilot mod seems to have taken care of the oil consumption issue. 7000km with no topping up required. Gave it a quick clean.

Bugger. If you got a second hand one in order to get the WOF, maybe you could then put the CMP one back in with the heatshild attached like @Karter16 thread https://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/57571-karter16s-e46-m3-journal/page/7/ ? I haven't installed mine yet so have no experience with how difficult it is to put the heatshield on, would make it very hard to see though.

235,xxx km New Phillips D2S xenon bulbs. I replaced both so they hopefully colour match better. Also replaced the rear badge with an OEM I got with the last parts order. Out with the old. The fishing line trick really works wonders New one: Still checking the oil level since doing the 02 pilot mod and it might have burned a smidge it’s not low enough to warrant a top up so very happy. Scored some brand new Meyle HD sway bar links off FB marketplace. The front left boot on the links I pulled out had been damaged i found (maybe from when the garage replaced the leaking shock).

Hi, my drivers headlight has turned a purple colour so I’m looking to get a new set of bulbs. Has anyone been there done that and have some recommendations? My car is a 2002 E46 FL. Phillips and Osram seem to be noted as the best but come at a premium, is the GEN2 Phillips D2S bulb worth it? 234,000 New soft brake lines installed. Went with OEM rubber ATE ones. The old ones weren’t terrible but nice peace of mind for an old car that’s on family duties. New fluid and an old school pedal bleed. no clean undercarriage photos here 😬

233,7xx km Treats! Swapped out a few more coils and the misfire went away. Setup PIDs in fusionOBD and have logged a few trips. The Long term fuel trims are at 6.5% on both banks which seems kinda high considering + - 3% is spec. When I get the chance I’m hoping to log a motorway cruise and hopefully someone can take a look at my data. Went a head and bought new coils as figured it’s about time I swapped those out for brand new ones, got some extra bits and pieces to make the most of the expensive shipping. Air filter old and new. The new ones got a foam kinda backing on it that the old one didn’t have. Cabin filter wasn’t as gross but that’s replaced now too.

Well that didn’t last long. Chronic misfire on cold start yesterday triggering the cylinder cut. - Scanned. Cyl 3 misfire. Moved coil pack to cyl 1, was still misfiring but was too warm to log a code. - Swapped coil out for a spare. Thought this solved it but think it was just it had warmed up enough as this morning I had a cyl 1 spark duration too short error. - Smoke tested. No obvious leaks Will try again tomorrow. Coils, MAF and fuel pump are potentially all original. Plugs are only 20k old but will start swapping those around.

233,450 km Checked the oil level this morning after being close enough to 2000km since doing the 02 pilot mod and still had a full sump of oil which is pretty cool. Did a handbrake adjustment, probably could have just tightened the cable but took the wheels off and made sure the shoes were in the right place as it's the first one i've done on this car. Gave the inside of the wheels a clean while they were off but they went from being real dirty to still pretty dirty so didn't take a photo. Gave it a hose down and took a couple shots before kindy pick up.

231,866km Wheel alignment by Dave Tunley. Rear right (the one i did by myself) was out by ALOT after doing the RTABS. Car is driving very nicely now.
