Broke my oil filter wrench and removed a layer of skin from my fingers trying to remove my oil filter. Had to screw driver the bastard to get it off. Oil filter 2, Logan 1. GG.

Yep, I paid $97 I think. It's hard to say what the vibration is like as I haven't tried other devices. It certainly vibrates a reasonable amount but I was quite happy with how it worked and it felt OK while using it.

Nice. Tempted to try the black spray wax, but it's a bit pricey. Also I think it's possible that adding another coating on top of the black wax might actually pull some of it off. I did a Meguiars hybrid ceramic pass after a Turtle pass and some of the black was coming off i think. May just need to be careful which products you layer. Also bought a SCA DA polisher and that made applying the stuff mucher easier.

Yes and no. The 3, 5 and 7 series doing well and hold to their heritage. The G30 5 series is a solid bit of engineering, so is the new 7. It may look a lot like the F10 but it's a different beast altogether. The 540i is pure BMW in my books.
-
Disagree, the S just looks derivative in my opinion.
-
I quite like it. It looks imposing and sophisticated while appearing sleek. Looks like a 7 to me. Blacked out ones don't photograph properly. The new 3/4 is also much better in person and seeing them all lined up at the dealer they look pretty sharp. They make Audi/merc look very generic.

Age isn't usually a problem. Expect $4k for 2 year warranty.
-
Nah, the Maserati. The 535i is certainly cheaper. $340 aint too bad.
-
Wish I could get an oil filter cheaper overseas. $150 >_<. Still cheaper than paying the dealer for an oil change $150 filter $300 for oil $200 for labour plus some random amount they add each time they plug in a computer to check it. $1000 yay!
-
Yeah next time around I might go the more expensive route. I wasn't sure if a DA was going to a great investment so spending $100 to find out isn't so bad in my books. Also has 3 year warranty and replaceable brushes, so longevity shouldn't be terrible.

Bought a DA polisher from SCA over the weekend for $100 and had a go with it. So much easier than doing it by hand! Although still need to hand do some of the fiddly bits. Would recommend for anyone wanting to get started with a DA.

Regarding the original car, if it is as tidy in person as the phohos suggest then i think it's worth a decent amount. Maybe half the asking price? I saw a very nice Mercedes C350 from 2007ish at the BMW dealership for $16k. The thing is immaculate, appears to be a grandad's garage special. It appeals to me on it's freshness alone. So I think even though it might not have all the desired options that it could command a bit of a premium if the condition is great. Between 10-20k I would get a mint E60 instead.

Replaced the control and tension arms in the 535i yesterday to get a new WOF. The old ones look and feel fine :/. I suspect if I had a different inspector on a different day I would have had a WOF no problem. Not a terribly hard job but probably took about 4-5 hours of actual work and $700 worth of parts. In better news, the insurance company said I have a $260 refund from the insurance I was paying on my M5 from 2 years ago. Win!

Lol those areas have been like that for 20+ years.

White is much much easier to clean than black and takes a bit longer to look dirty.

320i or 328i FTW.

Why do later model luxo barges depreciate catastrophically?

F10 and F01 are almost the same car. Same chassis, both weigh quite a lot. Interior and exterior are very similar. The F01 and F10 motorsport ones look pretty much the same to the casual observer. The chassis is very capable, especially with the 4 wheel steering, as Eagle says and can corner like a much lighter vehicle. The 6's are pretty reliable, only had basic stuff die on ours (still expensive). A lot of car for the money. I'd get a 740i over the 730d. I guess no one wants to look like grandad in his big old BMW. Everyone wants to look like they're from Herne Bay in their BMW SUV. -
Slightly OT but related to BMW styling. Saw one of these at CJ BMW yesterday, actually a very cool looking car.
-
WOF failed on control and tension arms. Quoted $3100 to replace haha. Going to order from ECS or FCP tonight for $800 landed. Cars eh.
-
Went through a VTNZ wof yesterday and failed on bent rim and front lower ball joint play. The inspector wasn't sure if the ball joint play is normal and that it might be fine if I can get BMW to say it's normal. Waste of my (my wife's in this cases) life. Booked into CJ BMW next week and they said they will re-check and fix anything. GG. Should have booked in to BMW in the first place.

Not usually a fan of the full blacked out look but in this case I think it works. Possibly because everything is new and matches, where most other blacked out cars are mish mash or tones and tacked on bits. -
I hear you man, even if I want to I don't have the time to polish my car anymore. I just took mine out of the garage so the rain can give it a wash, it's covered in bugs and other filth. The turtle black stuff does wash off pretty quick but oh well I still think it's worth doing.
-
Mine was done by hand. Not sure how well it will work on swirling, you might need something a little more aggressive or a machine polisher to clear that up first. The turtle black just seems to be great at hiding the pitting in black paint.

Paying $2.68 here for 95 at NPD. The BP up the road is charging more than that for 91. BP is always expensive as hell.

35i manual which is pretty sick. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/z4/listing/3516529873?bof=S0A4vocc
