As much as I hate them, I think if anything you'd be better to consider a social media based club. The traditional / formal car clubs seem to be a dying breed in my experience. For some reason they just don't seem to appeal to the majority anymore. Like most of us, I've been a member of a car club (a well known Wellington one started in the 70s) and even as a cheap option for motorsport affiliation and organised events numbers have steadily declined to the point where it barely exists. Facebook related groups on the other hand are very active.

I can't answer any of your questions, but just wanted to say sweet project. From what I hear you can't go wrong with the M52B28.

where can i source a manual conversion overseas?

I've got an e30 Getrag gearbox here going cheap. Might be a bit far south for you, but hit me up via pm if you're interested. -
Well done that man. This line from the tribunal says it all really. He said Toyota's claim was misleading. "It did not disclose that a significant portion of the price charged is a healthy margin added by Armstrongs."

I ended up using www.highwayvehiclerecovery.com as they're based in Paraparaumu. Cost me $90 which seems kinda steep, but they moved it the same afternoon so quick service.

Hi guys, I need to move a non-runner a reasonably short distance - Waikanae hills to Raumati Beach. Is anyone able to trailer for me for beers or know a cheap transport company? Cheers, Hayden

Nice car and great read Chris. I'm going to go a similar route in the not too far distant future. :-)

Nice build. I used to be pretty heavily into rotors too, check out www.aotearota.maori.nz if you're interested.

Have a search on youtube. I watched a good video about it on there. It was M54B30 internals in M52B28 which I think it what your after?
-
Trademe. Lots of options including complete kits or individual disc.
-
Well mine flew straight through at local vtnz and it's a $2,00 pile

Nice looking car. Well done

I agree to a point, but the ones on TM don't appear to be selling.

Gearbox sorted, $200 Still chasing interior bits, cheers

Considering some BMW places are asking $8k+ for engines and $1.5k+ for manual swaps, it doesn't seem that bad to me.

Just a warning, if bringing something over ensure it is 100% rust free. Otherwise it'll cost you s fortune to get legal here. I had this issue when I brought by UK RX-3 home with me. They wanted it completely stripped back. Probably looking at a $20g resto.

Nice car and interesting to read your history. There seems to be the odd SA car on tradme. Must be a few expats bringing them over. Keep an ear to the ground re: manual conversions. No way they should cost $1g. That's wrecker inflated prices imo. Where bouts in Welly are you? I'm in Kapiti but work in town. Cheers
-
Sorry, in or near Welly.

Hello, I'm after a black glove box without the wallered out hinge hole, so it doesn't fall on the floor when you open it. Rear speaker covers (black). Passenger side door mirror (black). A spare getrag would also be handy but not paying $1k lol. Cheers

I drive a 20 year old BMW everyday (a loved import), nothing beats it. I'd prefer the manual one in the hutt but.

Thanks for the replies and links everyone. Will do some more reading.

Would this thread be better in the tech section?

I enjoy roadkill, but not enough to pay for it. Those guys seem to get subsidised enough already without charging for content.

So the M54B30 has disa, dual vanos (Michael), and also fly-by-wire throttle. Just wondering if these provide additional barriers and costs over and above the M52. If they're easily overcome then great. I know nothing about CPU's by the way. The M52 also has the advantage that I could buy a complete car and swap the front subframe for beefy brakes and suspension. The initial plan is to use the 1.6 gearbox until I can save for something stronger Olaf. I have an email out with hellbm prior to xmas, but nothing back yet. Thanks
