  1. I cringe everytime I look at that pic, I'm sure it's fine and the bottom end just needed the last of the engine degreaser rinsed off before it headed in for a WOF. Remind me, exhausts just love thermal shock right?
  2. Welcome, lovely car. Pics, anywhere that you have had a little drive to get to aka an adventure.

    E39 oil burner

Flexi, bellows or the factory cat? BMW does seem to love 1 piece exhaust systems, do think it is a production/performance efficiency thing? I thought the rear end on the M5 would have a flange, but it also appears to be one piece to the headers.
  4. @Kees Having been an admin for years on another car forum I learnt that you can't please everyone all the time and everyone has an opinion. Like others I ended up on here as I was looking for a great local community before I committed to buying the dad wagon, I can see merit in both sides of this story. I would hasten to add that we shouldn't point fingers here, Mike while obviously very experienced had quite staunch views that would on occasion be released like a 2x4 to the head. One of the things that gave me the confidence to move into BMW ownership was the supportive environment offered by Bimmersport members, we don't have to agree on everything but there is a basic level of respect we have for others that shouldn't result in admin being put into a position like this and a long time member leaving. Guaranteed that no one has won out of this, the community has lost a valuable resource and like everything that becomes political people start to question the leadership - don't forget that the majority of car forums / clubs are run by people volunteering their time and resources - it can be a thankless job.
  5. Agreed, he was clearly very dedicated and talented. This thread was always great to watch.

    Quick rant thread.

So anyway, back to my original rant take away points - rubber and tire carcases littering local streets = bad. And remember ...... I think we have better things to do than rage at each other, smiling through gnashed teeth is way healthier

    Quick rant thread.

You know that things are well broken when "boy racers" have gone from harmless park ups, to the midnight drag train, to blocking off roads in industrial estates and now to attacking milk tankers. FFS, I think a fair amount of us went through at least some of this, but "back in the day" we had some respect for the law as there appeared to be repercussions for our actions. Getting over reading the news of idiots who are clearly untouchable destroying roads and private property, with everyday people getting to the point where they take the law into their own hands and then get prosecuted. Strange how the police have no capacity to be everywhere to bring a end to this burnout culture, but have all the resources to prosecute individuals that try to protect their property, family etc from this sort of behaviour. I'm not anti cops, just sick of driving from home to my daughters school and just seeing new black rubber everyday. Nothing is sacred, the intersection outside the local cemetery looks like the burn out box at Meremere. I spoke with the local cops who basically said that this is the biggest issue they currently face in rural south Auckland.
  8. Possibly because Audi is making a fair amount of noise in that space, and Merc is not far behind. I think Audi announced an Avant version recently which would be the killer option, but the pricing is still sky high compared to the ICE models RS4/6.
  9. I like the wire idea, thanks. I think while I'm out and about grabbing that I'll look into either the red or blue chrome chequer plate mats as a fall back option, that contrast with the black interior - BMW really missed the mark on not including something like that as a factory option
  10. The driver's side floor mat keeps catching on the seat when it moves. This has caused the back edge of the mat to curl up making the snagging issue even worse. I have two memory positions for the seat, one for driving and the second for getting in/out. The seat moves a fair amount between the two positions so everytime it crosses the back edge of the floor mat it grabs hold. My options are get another floor mat that actually fits, super glue the current floor mat down forever more, install a fixed bucket seat or simply walk everywhere with a horn speaker strapped to my back making V10 noises. Any ideas on solving this, I'm not a huge fan of the Velcro style pads that hold the mat down. Pretty sure these are M5 style mats from the car yard, and about 10mm longer than required for the correct fitment. All the other mats are perfect.
  11. The whole thing is just click bait unfortunately, "it's rare, so let's change the colour, seats and steering". I'll still watch this unfold.
  12. It is a bit painful to watch FYI. Comments section predictably reads like anything to do with an S85, haters gonna hate etc etc....
  13. M5 touring What's left of DRIVETRIBE just bought an M5 touring.
  14. Not to go massively off topic, but agree that ute's are not family wagons and the top end ones are useless at most things that the underlying platform was designed for - you can dress them up all you want and they are still a horrid ride and now priced at the pointy end of the market. Two years ago we spent a lot of time investigating a family wagon that we could also use on the lifestyle block, and most of all it had to have a drivers seat with proper lumber support - I had broken vertebra in my back and sitting was not something I endured well. Having driven almost everything available we drew the same conclusion as many (but clearly not all) that a double cab is not a family wagon, by the time you try to modify it to be a family wagon with aftermarket everything you may as well have bought a Prado or Landcruiser. Even after all that I nearly put the money down on a Toyota Hilux Mako when I was looking at the M5, I would still be waiting for delivery of the Toyota. Back on topic, fuel prices are painful - luckily the M5 has a pathetically small tank to fill
  15. A quick 4 months later update. As a result of having a life outside of detailing cars (please don't hate me ) I have done nothing other than gun wash the M5 to keep road film off. Thanks to Covid slowing everything down the wagon has lived outside for last couple of months while the house refurb drags on. Below is an image of it taken a couple of weeks ago, water is still beading up, I haven't put any more CMX on since the original application.
  16. I have no idea why there are two images in my post - but the edit won't save the removal of the second copy.
  17. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/m5/listing/3506836571?bof=So2dRU07 I don't even know where to go with this, but we can all tell the this individual is a keen keyboard warrior on the hunt for an exotic v10 which they have done extensive research on (hence the question, got to get one of the late production cars with the lambo engine, it's the only one to have. Thinking about trading mine if this seller says yes.)
  18. As I've been spending stupid amounts of time prepping and painting the interior of the house I've passed the time listening to podcasts. In all honesty it was never something that was on my radar until recently. I can recommend the following car related podcasts for anyone that needs background noise to distract them. Smith and Sniff Collecting cars Both of these are UK based, I find it more relatable than the US podcasts which are still a bit clickbate with no content. And the YouTube channels that are connected to them are also very watchable. If anyone has other recommendations please post up.
  19. AMMO NYC is good watching, I finally got a response from DrColor who are having international shipping issues and have been pretty good at keeping me updated and providing a partial refund to offset the late delivery. So it could take another 6 weeks for the product to arrive from the US. I'm happy to wait now that I know what is going on.
  20. Classic cover for years, they have been really good to deal with.
  21. Well so far this has been a lackluster experience. Paid on the 4th, no comms from this lot not even an invoice email. Only thing is blurb on their site stating that they are very busy sniffing paint fumes and it may take up to 12 business days to fulfill the order.
  22. And bought, nearly $20 for courier was a little steep though.
  23. I'm game, got some road rash around the arches that need a clean up. I'll order some and post some images.
  24. Pretty sure you could start a Youtube channel with your restoration work.
