I find for daily drivers the policies themselves seem fairly generic across most main providers and their claims histories are probably similar too. So it can just come down to price and service.
If you’re going to be insuring house and contents it is probably worth going for a general insurer for your daily driver.
But worth going for a specialist like Star Insurance or Classic for a second car/old-timer.
The main providers seem to have no capacity to deal with high-value older cars as increasingly demand formal valuations unless you want to settle for their algorithm-derived valuation.
People have good and bad experiences, seems Classic is getting a good rep here. I have had multiple claims with AMI over the years and been with them since 1990, and have my Golf GTI daily insured with them, and never had an issue. But my E30 and JCW GP are with Star as AMI weren’t so flexi for the valuations I wanted to have as agreed.
I have had great service with AA Insurance, who win awards repeatedly, but so far have never claimed. They insured my old MX5. I moved my house and contents to them based on their service and may move the daily to them next time it comes up, but will see what AMI can do too.
My preference is always to go with an agreed value policy, unsure if you even get market value ones anymore?

I don’t mind a flip, am likely to be doing one on the R53 GP I bought, but the money I am sinking into it to make it better will barely be recovered.
That is why this “mega flip” feels a bit off as minor things like the two small paint defects have not been done. But there are all sorts of approaches I guess

I dislike the red number plate surround: Reckon it would sell easier if it had a black Euro-spec one, the side skirts and rear spoiler, and pinstripe and monsoon shields removed… oh and if was cheaper.
But E30s are a broad church with a wide range of interested followers and owners who like varying things.

Over $30k? Depends on colours, condition etc. Many people prefer the 2 door coupes. There are two interesting comparisons on TradeMe at the moment:
https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-3454459403.htm which is the less preferred automatic. There is this one which has been sitting a bit: is low spec and has a dash crack and hole in the seat and unpopular interior colour (I like it!), and it’s being asked a lot more for:

Lol @Vass indeed it was screwed in. Removed screws with high hopes, but it is baked on 😕
Face tattoos lol

@Vass man you don’t muck around man. Looking amazing! At least you only have the “footprint”: On my recent MINI GP1 purchase I have the whole ugly metal thing, it won’t come off without ripping the lining off the dash top; it has well and truly baked on. 😡
