While this thread's been dug back up @*Glenn* - here's a cool memory of my questionably styled Hellrot facing off against your NZ first Ti + M52B28 conversion (don't quote me on that) down Meremere. From memory, we faced off twice and had similar trap times and what a bloody good day it was. And another of you, @BM WORLD and I having a chinwag. Loved that 535i Brent! Good times.

Major engine damage after N47 timing chain snapped
akapjay replied to celticby's topic in Maintenance
Bugger, I feel your frustration in this situation. I haven't chased the issue with BMW, but had a VW Golf Tsi slip a tooth with a similar timing chain tensioner issue. In the end paid a local shop $4.5k for a recondition as we couldn't source a used engine. Giltrap quoted 14k, another local outfit quoted 8k with others ranging somewhere in between. If I were in your shoes, I'd be escalating with BMW as this is a known potential catastrophic failure point globally, so if you've had no advice from BMW during servicing, or any warning symptoms, it does seem a bit raw: https://www.google.com/search?q=N47+timing+chain+tensioner If you run out of energy for the above, I'd get on the blower to Ray and Sam @ HellBM for a fair cost solution. I blew a M20B28 in an E30 some years back and the team at HellBM were incredible to swap in a known great condition B28 within a lightning fast window. -
Costco NZ tips/observations from a grumpy mid 30s fella: - If you're going to order food, do it before you start your shopping. - You also don't need a card to order food, so if you want to sample the 'Costco experience', go in and order a hotdog with the masses. - Your Costco US card is accepted, no need to re sign up. - The Aus sourced red meat doesn't hold a flame to NZ red meat, though they do have some larger cuts more readily available than your local butcher or supermarket might. Good for a big barbie or cook up. - Most grocery items are comparable in cost to a Pak'n'Save special, or Tai Ping regular price. - Fuel's comparable to NPD or Waitomo, can't beat Riverhead Caltex. - Vitamins/supplements are cheaper at Chemist Warehouse, which shouldn't be an issue shopping at if you're considering Costco. - Returns are a breeze. Mrs got caught up in the consumerism and did a decent clothing shop, got home and realised some were cheaper online or from local NZ stores and others she didn't actually want - just got caught up in the consumer-spend mentality Costco market so well, and returned with no questions asked. Best use of our card to date is boxes of Stroopwafels (you're welcome if you haven't tried these before).

Reconn'd a M50 single vanos unit. Wasn't too difficult, and immensely satisfying feeling the shaft play before and after. Bought this kit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/175584427927 Followed ECS diy: https://blog.ecstuning.com/diy-bmw-single-vanos-rebuild-kit/

BMW rates Mahle as an OEM provider.. It differs from part to part, but I generally trust whatever BMW utilises for OEM - eg off the top of my head (from E30/36/46/9x experience😞 Elring - gaskets, seals Mahle - oil, air, fuel filters Delphi - coils, sensors Fag - bearings, cylinders Have had great results subbing in Febi/Bilstein, Swag, Rein, FTC, Mann - but depends part to part really. Think Lemforder makes Febi, Mahle, Mann etc anyway - so that's more in Mahle's favour(?) - could be wrong on that! Also if you chuck another RockAuto order in - 5% off RockAuto orders: Code: 230130626206754042 Expires on May 26, 2023, 12:00 Midnight CT

Anyone have mates in Korea that could snag some of these? 👀 https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra-bmw-m-edition-release/

Yep, what KwS said. Seems fairly priced in general, and with only 48,200 km on the clock, it's worth a small amount of effort to return to stock for any prospective buyer.

From memory I paid $2900 a long time ago to recondition a Jatco before blowing it again and just converting to manual. Car was around the 120k km mark at the time, I was first owner after Japan. Manual conversion or swap in another Jatco and call it a day, don't waste your money reconditioning.

When you arrive to drop off some wheels tyres and the fella says "oh, I thought I was buying a whole car" 🤦♂️
