E39 amp & speaker upgrade advice please
M5V8 replied to JDMGTB's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Hi Jonathan, i've upgraded all the speakers in my e39 but didn't bother with the AMP as it's loud enough. What was interesting in my car there are no speakers in the rear doors at all. My car has the M professional audio package and the tweeters were mounted over the mid ranges in the rear parcel shelf. I purchased two sets of components and ran them in the factory positions binned the plastic sound tubes and just built customwood mounts for the larger speakers. I generally run the fader slightly forward biased however the sound is wonderful. good luck with your build sounds like you have it all well in hand. -
V1's hardware is identical, only difference is a slightly longer power cord in the latest models. The software is up-gradable so model is alittle irrelevant. "NZ model" or "optimized for NZ" just means they have turned off X & K bands. 2 second job. Physical condition is really all that matters with the V1.

I didn't think it was a requirement for a wof to have the exact same tyre on each side. Only the same type of tyre (as in size & rating).Otherwise there's alot of cars on NZ roads that shouldn't be passing wof's!! Someone with more wof knowledge here may be able to clarify this alittle more?

where did you find the brembo brakes ? they weren't standard in the E38

you need to track down the bottom part of the motorsport lip mate. looks naked without it!

welcome. sweet ride. Did you mean 323i?

really nice wagon Simon. I appreciate subtle improvements. But I have to agree with the exhaust tip comments...just not quite right. The black wagon shows the way to go.

Hi Sed, And welcome. This is a difficult subject as it's alittle subjective. I'm sure there are plenty of stories both positive and negative as to the costs of running this or that car irrespective of the brand. At the end of the day it's really down to the car, how you maintain it. From my personal POV. I have a M5 with full BMW service history and a relatively low K car. It's always been BMW serviced and the cost in my opinion has been really brilliant ($3-400 every 2 years). Compared to my other car which is a big HP jappa which basically lives in the shop and bills always include 3 digits. I think this is the trick. Cheaper, older, higher K import euros are that for a reason and you might struggle with the running cost if you are unlucky. Good, low K, BMW NZ historied cars are the way to euro happyness.

you mean the actual colour of the screen? I believe you have a choice and it's in the settings menu. Mine was set to brown (ew) so I changed it to a more palatable blue

cheers andrew.fingers crossed this all works out -
It's a sucky situation all around mate. But to be honest that's pretty good from pitstop. Good on them for offering something. thumbs up pitstop.

i think there's been quite alot of this. we bought a voucher off one of these companies (another one). Couldn't ever get them on the phone to book an appointment, did get and email and even then they kept cancelling on us. Wouldn't do it again, not worth the hassle. I did have to threaten the voucher company under the consumer guarantees act to get any action. you get what you pay for.

it's hard to say not being there. But if you car backfired it could easily blow apart a muffler in a single go. That's not the mufflers fault, nor whom installed it. I've seen a rotary destroy a muffler within 15mins of installation with backfires (intentional in this case). You could pleed your case to pitstop HQ but I don't think you have a leg to stand on. I certainly wouldn't say you have any case for small claims or anything like that. Try asking for cost on the replacement. They may go for that.

I'd love to make it up there but I believe I have release testing that weekend. If I can get out of it whom / how could I secure a spot, say just before the wknd? (i've booked paid and had to pull out and lost all my $$ on another trackday with SNZ so not keen to repeat) -
stay away from the C32 AMG. My mate had one, nice clean example. 50 something ks on it. went well. ate rear tyres and gas but that was probably his driving. started making tappet noises. he got it checked and they replaced some. noised kept going. then bang. top of the valve broke off and dropped into the engine. dead engine. complete rebuild. $13k in bills not to mention all the other issues he had. (seat/headlight/interior faults) edit: Oh and yes I did drive it plenty. Yes it when like a cut cat. Prob as quick if not slightly quicker than the M3 at the time. But only in a straight line.

Micheal's on the money there. look for as low mileage as possible with service history. They are great cars and reasonable to run if they are looked after.
