While driving my 2008 1.8 Corolla manual home from work today I had the windows down and I was reduced to listening to the most dreary, monotonous 4 cylinder noise you could imagine..... echoing down the streets as I pass parked cars. Awful! It just hits all the notes that actually make me feel bored and almost sick, weird perhaps, but it's a truly horrible especially day in day out - surely I'm not alone here?? It got me thinking... what are some relatively practical / affordable cars that actually have engines that under normal driving stir the soul for he right reasons, raising your mood, making the day just that much better, yet aren't necessarily fast or exotic cars I'm not talking about revving an M3 out to 8,000rpm, more so the 1000-4000rpm town driving people do regularly, a completely different matter. Engine's that sprung to mind, were some 3 cylinders, but not really? Some 5 cylinders perhaps... Or more likely a nice V6, of a sporty nature rather than the run of the mill V6s Japan likes to put out. Suggestions are welcome!!

I recorded my car outside driving away and simultaneously video captured the speedo & synced it together

Impressive. The engine the guy is holding looks photoshoped or is it just me?
-
I was thinking that too. Is there any performance benefit with those I wonder?

Fingers crossed for him!

Yeah black wrinkle will be the way to go! Amazing how the pitting takes hold. I shall look forward to seeing the results

A mate got an exhaust done at Woolf, I was shocked at the price they charged considering the basic setup and poor sound due to the cheap mufflers/resonators they supplied out of their inventory. $1300, for a v8 powered ute, consisting of 2.25" press bent mild steel tube from headers, into a Y pipe, 3" single resonator (rattles horribly) out to a large generic muffler and a 3" dump pipe mild steel painted black with a spray can. Biggest rip off of the century I thought!

Good work Julian, this will really improve the under hood appearance!

I've never understood the appeal of bringing half finished cars to shows when they have to be pushed into place, can anyone explain?

Sweet as, fun times ahead Ivan.

That exhaust............. such inspiration, I shall do that to my E36 V8.

I can never function properly if I am talking while doing car work with people standing around. I have to be in a state of solitude so I can maintain focus haha

My god, Dave, you're organised like a brain surgeon! Unfortunately I'll be of no help with such a repair but there are a few guys floating around with such M-experience

I went all out on my door cards, used fibre glass epoxy for maximum strength, so tired of them failing prematurely. Last glue I used failed in less than a year.

Hehehe, well this should be interesting. 200rwkw+ ?

Nothing at all, just making another one for the sake of experimenting Then Ill have two sets to change over for a different noise

Yay supercharger? Hopefully not a centrifugal one though? they are a bit iffy efficiency wise compared to turbos or positive displacement chargers. That said, they still = more power and torque so still worth it.

Test fitted a V8 Vantage rear muffler for my 1UZ V8 E36, seems like it is going to fit quite well! Need to modify the brackets to hold it in place now, then get the mid section welded up asap, I want to hear this thing!!!
