Toyota Soarer Active suspension compared against 850i & Legend
Michael. replied to Michael.'s topic in Videos & Sound
Yeah no such option with the 1JZ, I was thinking earlier it would have been quite ideal if they had incorporated it. Trouble with the active soarer is that version of 1UZFE has a huge hydraulic pump that does the power steering, suspension and rear wheel steering so it saps quite a lot of power, most stock examples can only put down 120rwkw, as apposed to 140rwkw for a normal V8, the TTs are more like 160rwkw out of the box. Again the low power issue is compounded with a massive 1800kg+ weight, so its a bit of a catch 22. In saying that I know a guy in Australia thats supercharged one and put a 5 speed supra manual box in one. Puts down 296rwkw at present. -
The rare active suspension Soarer was without a doubt one of the most technically advanced cars out of Japan in the early 90s. It featured a unique Hydraulic 'active' suspension system that constantly changed the performance of each shock depending on what the car was doing, for example under heavy braking the front shocks would stiffen up keeping the car level and flat, this is demonstrated in the clip nicely against the Twin Turbo coil suspension Soarer. It was just a shame it was too slow in a straight line posting a 16.3 1/4 mile, one of the reason Toyota only made 873 of the from 1991-1996.

Give it to charities

The E46 Touring M3 would have been superb. So sad they didn't make it.... at least they decided against the ugly M3 Compact however!
-
My thoughts too, looked like it had plenty of add ons. My guess was it was just a regular M3.

Today on the motorway I had a black M3 E46 with a large wing on the back over take me. Sounded quite sporty... Looked like it had a CSL badge?
-
Yes, I would take it to Botany Motor Worx and get it scanned.

+1 Hmmm 5th gear... I should start watching that series from the Beginning. Though.. I am sure I will get bored and be put off by the absence of JC.

That's a nice sports car.
-
That is pathetic....

Welcome.

Purple wheels on a black car? Probably not a bad idea, as it would be an amusing sight to those that see you drive by. I know I always enjoy a funny car.

Anyone able to check this out on Wednesday?

Oval just sell the cars, it's up to whoever is buying the car to thoroughly inspect it before bidding. "Sold as is where is" So it's bit of a no brainer to inspect the car properly. -
Welcome. I like that you went backwards, 740i.... 520i.......... 318i Should be the other way around!

Entertaining. I think this kind of cheap performance motoring is the best way to have real fun on the track. Building the car yourself from scratch keeping it cheap is somehow really satisfying. Plus, if something does go wrong its only a car worth a few grand - only a few more grand to get a replacement!

Considering the E46s are quite a heavy car it's the torque that is lacking with these engines that comes into play more so than a lack of BHP, so unless it's got more capacity or you go FI, basic modifications are never going to really going to push the car along any quicker. Like what Hotwire says a Remap would probably be the best thing to do, but for the dollar/gain ratio it's still probably not worth it. Best to just accept what it is, is what it is and instead spend the money on something worth while, like a new stereo.

Thank God for warranties. Is the 2011 S65 version they replaced it with any different to the original 2008 engine?
-
I would be inclined to say go for a 545i. It really depends on what you want, a luxo barge, which is the 745i. Or the 545i, which is comfortable as well as being somewhat sporty at the same time, you get the best of both worlds with an E60. The 745i would probably perform the same in a straight line as your 330i, so the 545i would at least be the most obvious step up in performance. The styling also comes into it, I think your getting a much more attractive car with an E60 over an E65, although the last face-lift version of the 7 looks reasonable.

Home schooled................................................... ah.

What is the big deal, just another idiot trying to sell a rubbish car..... 'wow'
-
Not really provided you use suitable catalytic converters, resonators and mufflers. Albeit ones that are made properly - Not generic junk.

Fantastic. 'Anatomy of the E36 door...'

Happy to take $350.....
