if ring gear is buggered, hopefully unlikely, then what could happen if i just leave it probably starter motor and solenoid at fault then had another look and sound is more intense so to speak from the bottom of bellhousing but when you stand on drivers side you can hear it more than on the starter side man its frustrating got a trip planned for 29th need the ka dammit haha
-
had another look at her taday and placing a pipe on the starter while its running and i can here a ticking could the solenoid be staying engaged ? cant find relay to check it removed(one by one) the relays in the engine box and none stopped the engine from starting except of course the fuel one does it even have a relay? checked behind glovebox and theres a relay there just one and its not for the starter and did my fail proof test haha and it still starts please help out cheers
-
hey mate where would i find the starter relay ? good idea to check it first looking for a write up on starter motor removal....they are a bugger on the 36 but there must be sum tricks to it

my e36 325i m50 vanos has developed a strange starting issue sometimes you turn the key and sweet az other times absolutely nothing happens and the lights go dim on the dash battery is new now it has also developed a small rattle sounds like a stone in an exhasut cover but its by the back of the engine starter motor gone or nearly gone? starter motor solenoid not coming back so its touching or running with the engine?(could explain rattle) cheers for any input have a great xmas

car is e36 1993 single vanos 325i m50 want to replace the seals because it is displaying a lack of performance and a slight vanos rattle and are supposed to be replaced at some point, car is on 196000kms so im 99%sure they could use renewing can get the seal kit from oversease and have been told bmw here in new zealand dont sell just the seals, only rebuilt vanos kits around $500 how much is it to have it done anyone had a quote? anyone done their vanos themselves or know where to get just the seals?would like to do this myself i know there are some extra tools ill need but have a place to borrow them from so thatl cut the cost cheers for any help in the right direction

i had 2 m10's loved those old cars i replaced everything and cleaned and tuned all sorts and it still needed just a touch on the throttle to start in the morning as previously stated it older tech and wont start like the new stuff i wouldnt be upset about having to touch the throttle a little for a start as long as shes running smooth and idling smooth
-
not interested in other seats or getting leathers as the price is steep at $450 a pair and im a student so i have seen really good leather seat covers in the past and im looking for a set anyone know where to buy them?? have checked repco and supercheap auto but no luck so where? cheers:)
-
makes sense haha i hunted for better prices for the m50 alternator bushings but $30 was the best and then some labour on top just trying to make things a bit cheaper for the bmw owner cheers
-
the brushes were easy az to replace on the e30's but i found it different on the m50 alternator model number is 0120 465 031 couldnt replace the brushes myself though but either way my bearings went and if they fail id imagine it would cause a big issue since the m50 uses a serpentine belt for water pump etc so if anyone cant do it themselves ill do it for a good rate and save you the time cheers
-
haha well when i took my regulator in for exactly that i could get the bushings for $30 cheapest and then plus about an hours labour but have no idea where you got yours from for the m50 alternator i think its a bit different but all i was offering was a cheap repair for some bimmersport members thanx mate
