Both of our 325s do about 12.5l/100km around town and both do about 8.5l/100km on the open road, worse around town and better on the open road than my old Legacy Turbo. I would hope a 318 would be better on both, given the inconvenience caused by a lack of power.

It's ours. Has no rust except for sunroof panel (which I have a replacement for). NZ New, 278kms, rebuilt motor at 205kms, more new bits than I can be bothered listing. Missing fog lights (previous owner). Has heavy duty clutch and had been in storage for 2 years prior to us buying it. May be for sale sometime soon.

Early 325i (E36) was 192hp/141kw, then when it became 323i (with 2.5 motor), was strangled with 320i (from memory) intake manifold to bring it back to 170hp, in order to differentiate it from 328i, which still had 192/3hp, but as previously stated, a much flatter/larger torque curve. A 328i can apparently gain substantially more power with an early E36 325i intake and a remap. Logic says that a 323i would have the same jump in hp, by adding an early 325i manifold as well.

We towed a 2100kg boat with a 320i, then sold it. I think it's now the only long wheelbase 320i in Tauranga. It actually did it fine, including up the ramp, but I wouldn't make a habit of it, at least not in my car.

There's no way the convertible would sit on the road over night, if that's what you're thinking. Maybe I'm paranoid after having the Legacy stolen, but I'm 100% confident that the roof would get cut. It's just too easy. And even on the E30, people still pass the odd comment about being a bit "flash". MX-5? My cousin had his tyres slashed on his, only car in the car park to be touched (guess they didn't cut the roof though). During the day it's not too much of a hassle, just park it where you can see it. At the end of the day, as a second car, it's all worth it for a strop down a country road.

Mobil 1 in the m325 and Fuchs in the convertible. Neither burn or use any oil. After changing to M1, I swear the car turns over a bit faster first thing in the morning, but could be imagining things.

Don't know why, but when the mexhanic I use put a different year head on a 320, it wouldn't run properly, kept missing. After lots of head scratching and consultation with other Bimmer mechanics, he changed it for the same year head and away it went. Something to watch out for.

Try this, www.fritzsbits.co.uk They offer a full range of performance upgrades, including cams, triple carb conversions etc. Try and get some info that way. They are expensive for some bits though.
