E28 whats it worth?

Recommended Posts

Looking to sell my E28 and was after some thoughts on realistic pricing. Its a 86 525e with 176000kms, very tidy original condition inside and out, full documented dealership service history from 1991, everything works and drives like new. Seeing as these don't come up often its hard gauge were the market is, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

No idea what it’s worth, but that is one seriously awesome example of a very cool car!

GLWS.

Thinking the same thing. Must be one of the best examples around.

That is gorgeous! Especially the condition you have kept it in.

I think it would be fair to say that an example like this in UK would easily be fetching £15k at the dealers. In NZ - a bit less. I honestly think $16-18k in NZ would be a very fair asking price.

If I were in your shoes, I would get a pro photographer to take some shots and list it for $22k.

I like your optimism , its a little richer than I would have thought. I have currently someone with ties to the classic car market doing some feeling about on prices so I will see what he comes back with.

I would put it between 10-12k. What is the plastic implement used that is shown in the toolbox?

Assume phone is 3G and won't work on current networks? Very nice example car.

I think it's an emergency sunroof operation adapter

The tool is for manually winding up the electric windows should they fail. Unsure about the phone, just kept it for the business man on the move look. It still powers up.

An US spec 535is (diving board bumpers) with 88k miles just sold on BAT auctions for $50k USD.  Obviously, it's an exception but slowly everyone else will put their prices up which will inflate the rest.

I see someone has already made a smart arse comment regarding the price.

The price is consistent with other original models from around the same time that haven’t been neglected.
For some perspective.

It is a bargain compared to the horrid poorly built and inefficient over priced Aussie/American sh*t of the ‘70s and ‘80s. The ones that were falling to bits and rusting before they drove out of the factory doors.

No I made a typo when I first listed it at $14 which was very quickly pointed out  in a flurry of hopeful buyers by txt

It's actually such a beautiful example. I have a 535i and if mine was in this condition i'd be asking 20 plus for it. This is gorgeous. 14 is a fair price!

Im not surprised, they tried to lowball the heck out of me when I was selling my TVR. They always have huge markups. They have also been known to try and pass things off on unsuspecting buyers, like the difference between Miles and KM on an odometer.

minimum of $15k.  Lovely example.  Everything cool from the 80's is taking a sharp increase in interest.  Although the 'eta' models aren't the last word in sports driving, they are leggy and fun while not being too thirsty.

Never mind the naysayers, the e28 is on the way up (M535i), tidy etas will get a leg up along with them.

@freaknout this one's for you mate!

edit:  oooops saw this was a thread-dredge.  I wonder, will waimakclassiccars get above $25k for this?

A certain discussion about a cheap E39 M5 suddenly springs to mind haha.
