If you can cut a slot in it then you should be able to cut it most of the head off easy with the right tool. A dremel type tool or die grinder would work best using carbide bits but a cutting disc can work to grind down small stuff.

Hammer a slightly oversize one into the hole and then carefully try to get it to shift slightly backwards and fowards before trying to fully undo it. Give the head of the stripped allen key bolt a good number of axial blows before hammering in the torx socket as this will help shock the binding threads loose.

Thanks Will, that did the trick. 2 hours to remove 9 bolts, including digging up my grandfathers 9/16 open ended spanner. Only to find the last bolt has an end missing and simply turns and turns and turns… guess I’ll just have to mask more off.

Ok i want to change my front shocks to the msport shocks. Can I just change the shocks per se? Nothing else It is compatible? E90 normal shocks to msport. Thanks!

2013 F20 116i.

Just been for a WoF, passed with no issues at all.

Next day... Dashboard does a poor impression of a Christmas Tree. Poor because it's only a few lights.

 

Speed limiter is also not working.

The ol' IT standby - turn it off and turn it n again - clears it temporarily. Cleared yesterday, used this morning without issue, came back this evening.

Before anyone asks - I don't have immediate access to a code reader!

ABS issue, speed sensor, brake pad wear sensor...?

 

Edit: Going to check tyre pressures ASAP. iDrive hasn't mentioned them as an issue, but the warning light is on and it's an easy thing to check.

Duff ABS sensor or other ABS issue would be my guess. TPMS was measured by the wheel speed sensors on the older BMWs, so i presume the F20 is the same. Gonna have to scan it.

After a scan - my first port of call would be battery.  Modern BMW (like E60 onwards) very sensitive to voltage and bad batty the source of many gremlins.  Be sure to code to the car if you change it out.

You're into modern BMW ownership, you need a scan tool.

My first thought was battery, too.

Andy suggested tyre pressures - valid, and easy to check.

Miss M has a modern BMW. Dad needs a scan tool.  🤣

In the absence of appropriate tools to do a job, consult someone who does have them and knows how to use them.

We looked at each other. "So. What do think might be the problem?"

(I also learned that there's a speed sensor on all 4 wheels which in hindsight makes sense. For some reason I'd been thinking there was a right rear, and a left front.)

Hopefully be sorted later today.
