2 pointsI recently purchased a e65 7 series that had a non functioning 6 disc cd changer. After doing some research this problem seems to happen on almost every e65 7 series, most owners out of warranty never bothered to fix it. I managed to find the simple problem behind the cause for the cd changer to fail. After removing the cd changer from my car and inspecting the cd changer mechanisms closely. I noticed that a lot of the lubrication on the internal parts of the CD changer had worn out and was dirty. So i cleaned it up and applied some spray lubircant. Reassembled everything and voila, a perfect working CD changer. I just saved myself an expensive $1k+ trip to the dealer to have this replaced. I also scored myself 6 new CD's stuck in their from the previous owner yipee. If anyone needs any guidance on how to go about this repair, let me know!

2 pointsNFS II SE was the absolute business back in the day, kicked off my obsession with the F50. I reckon Porsche 2000 was the high-water mark for the series tbh, lost interest after the focus shifted.

1 pointGreat idea. I think they offer quite a cool unique package. I'm playing around with plans to supercharge my V8 Soarer, using a cheaper roots type unit, but I've also pondered what an intercooler/supercharged setup would go on my 2JZGE straight 6 Soarer, Comes back to the same thing for M5X engines, certainly could do something quite effective. I would probably use an M50 iron block with the better head, or whatever it is they do, remove the intake and use that space to make a quality custom manifold to mount a water air heat exchanger and the supercharger etc. Just a modest 5-7psi would be pretty decent for a 30-40% gain. All comes down to how much you want to spend really / how much work you can do yourself locally.

1 pointWhat do people hear when they listen to that type of music, 'cos it can't be what I hear...Maybe people say it is good music just to conform. Do people actually think that sounds good compared to a good jazz cover band like Postmodern Jukebox?

1 point+1 on Timeserts, given 2 helicoils failed on my mower I wouldn't be too keen on using them on a car engine. I would imagine by the time you removed and stripped the engine, paid for a pro to do the Timeserts, inspect & machine the head, new fasteners and gaskets etc etc it would be more cost effective to just pay the $1500 - odd and throw a replacement engine in the hole. Disadvantages to doing that too, but damned if you do / don't really!

1 pointRealising this thread should be in the projects section now...but anyway... I ordered a JB4, BMS Dual intakes, Charge pipe w/ tial BOV, and Oil Catch Can around 2 weeks ago from the states and arrived on Saturday morning Was quite busy this weekend however had some time yesterday afternoon to attempt to install the JB4. I don't have much experience at all with engines apart from changing oil and filters, but read that it wasn't too difficult, so had my ipad in the garage with the PDF and Youtube video instructions and took around 1.5hrs. Car started first time though and didn't throw any codes so success! Hardest bit was knowing how much force was needed for the removal and installation of some bits but now I know can do it in 30mins if I need to remove it at all This car is now a beast! I was worried that I had done too much research and my expectations would be too high, but there is a very noticeable difference in power and torque. The first time I let the boost build in 3rd gear made me laugh like a kid Excited to feel (and hear) the difference once the intake and charge pipe are installed later this week

1 pointThe ad should read like this: "Here we have an example of an M325i (sort of). It's a future collector's car and we're going to charge 10g's for it. But even though we have the original wheels for it we instead bought the ugliest goddamn wheels we could find and fitted them with 55 profile Firestone Supercats. Because everyone knows that Supercats are the ultimate performance tyre and people who would buy an 80's BMW for 10g's would insist that it had new 55 profile Firestone Supercats on it. f**k we're smart."

1 pointI have the original, and it will be staying on this e30, this build is for the 4 door pre facelift I sold to my workmate, my car just tends to live in the garage a bit more than his does, so using it to build from, yet making a few subtle changes and see how they work out.

1 pointM70 is a narrow V-block - will fit in easily into an e36/46 bay. The neat thing with a V12 in an e30 is you can get it up between the frame rails, whereas the V8 has to go in the top because of the wide V. Means you can lift the V12 up compete with tranny into the bay, the V8 you have to lift the gearbox up from underneath as the combo really does not like going into the e30 bay as a unit! Also the V8 exhaust headers are VERY tight against the e30 rails, does not allow much fancy pipework. With the much wider bay of the e36/46, and the bolt off front, fitting a V12 will be a breeze, making decent headers will also be much easier. I have dummy fitted a V8 into a Ti just to sort out how the sump/ARB etc will work. The dummy is just the block, no heads yet, but I think there will definitely be plenty of room for a decent-ish set of headers in there compared to the ones on my e30 V8. Go for the V12, the sound is awesome and it is a relatively cheap conversion to do... except for fitting a manual box, that will be a challenge !

1 pointInteresting to see peoples take on this. If it was me, I'd be into the diesel 5 series straight away. You can't argue RUC is a hassle when you can buy them from the petrol station at 10,000km a time, at the same time as you fill your tank. And all that torque and economy...

1 pointHaving completed 2 M70 v12 conversions into e34's, to keep costs down all electrics were used from the donor car to avoid the extra expense of aftermarket ecu's/ tuning etc. These involved a COMPLETE loom replacement (headlights - taillights and everything in between). Splicing into the existing E34 loom was more of a headache than gutting the entire shell and rewiring with donor loom. This is also the way Kayne Barrie did his E34 M70 conversion. The M73 donor (typically the e38 750iL) however has LOTS more wiring/gizmos/EWS which would make this route an even nicer challenge. I have done a fair bit of research into converting an M73 to run on the earlier M70 (Bosch) system, but unfortunately it is not as easy as the conversions Brent has done with the M62 - M60 Ecu's. The conclusion I came to was that the only really feasible way to run the M73 (without getting deep into electrickery and recoding of stuffs) was to run an aftermarket ECU. Which = more money plus tuning time (again more money) to get it running right. Car tinkerings have slowed a lot for me over the years as I have moved into bikes, I still have my V12 project sitting in a paddock waiting to bolt the 6speed manual box behind. Seeing topics like this and peoples opinions reminded me of when I was doing mine, pretty much everything repeated in this thread... maybe this is the inspiration I need to get mine back on the road. oh the fun of chasing people round the tracks in a dinosaur lounge suite. An E36 would have much better power to weight ratio but comes with extra challenges and I would suspect quite a bit more cost.

1 pointBHP does not have any effect on what I would term nimble, acceleration yes, but does not change second moment of inertia, or "turn in". I would always associate nimble with how quickly the car can change direction (in a controlled way), rather then how fast it can accelerate.

1 pointYeah it sounds awesome but I have other cars and cant justify spending too much on another toy. I'm currently torn between an M3 or getting a 328 and making it out perform an M3 for about the same price, however it'd be nice to be able to retain the M badge value
