5 pointsAdjusted the valves and reassembled. Ticking's still pretty loud but not quite as bad. Plugs had a fair bit of oil on them at the business end so something else is wrong. Head gaskets were apparently done 4-5 years ago so unless it was done badly it's most likely worn valve stem seals. At least the bay looks a bit tidier now.

2 pointsHello. I'll post it here before it goes on trademe. After nearly a decade of ownership, Im selling my custom built 85' e30 turbo. Work and kids consume all my time these days, so no time to work on my e30. No time to enjoy it either as I only commute to/from work in rush hour traffick, its a waste of this great machine. I'd rather prefer somebody else enjoying it. Quick rundown of specs below, I'll try to update with more specifics. Drivetrain -fully Rebuilt M20 (bearings, rings, machning, new cylinder head hardware), with b27 crank, 400cc injectors, wasted spark conversion -holset HX35 turbo, 50mm external wastegate, hidden intercooler, not huge but i think it was 200 by 500 or something similar -3 inch exhaust straight through -megasquirt 2 standalone EMS - with wireless adapter so you can tune from your phone . LC1 wideband. -custom clutch... ferrometalic or something. Its great, nearly like stock clutch, just a bit heavier -rebuilt getrag 260 (have receipts somewhere for rebuild). TBH 2nd is getting sloppy, original GB might be better -driveshaft with recenty replaced guibo, bearing and ujoint -3.46 LSD. This is OBX brand lsd, which is basically a copy of Quaife hellical lsd. its awesome. -50mm alloy radiator -devilson methanol injection Brakes: -300x25 front (honda S2k), 4 pot alloy solid caliper (skyline turbo) -296x22 rear (e46 330i), 2 pot solid alloy caliper (skyline turbo) Suspension: -koni adjustable shocks -sports sprins (slightly lowered, slighly stiffer) -nolethane bushes everywhere wheels: -16x7.5 with appropriate spacers -Toyo proxes 225x40x16 interior: -NZKW reclining bucket seats (kinda tired) -heaps of gauges -carpet and interior generally is pretty tired -nice dash mat Performance -never tested on dyno... really -never been to the drag strip... really -at ~14 psi lights up tires once it reaches powerband in 2nd. Pleny fast to get you in trouble quick. Body: -all known rust removed and incl front floorpans, underneath boot, etc. Had a paintjob few years ago, which generally speaking is ok, has some imperfections. -alot under the car like rear subframe, fuel tank and other areas stripped to bare metal then applied POR15 The Bad: Given it's 30 years old car that has been used daily, it has it's imperfections eg. bonnet, sunroof, interior is relatively tired, viewing is recomended. Mechanically however is in excellent shape. Spares (will not sell separately - dont ask) -cylinder head -getrag 260 gearbox -3.64 open diff -3.46 open diff -3.46 diff (worn - for parts) -set of brand new control arms -boxes of random parts -about 0.5l of paint (leftover from the batch) I'll try to add mor details later Pics: Link to gallery Price: $15k, would consider swaps for a famili friendly SUV, such as X5 or similar of similar value. Has been proffesionally valued for insurance purposes for $13k before paintjob. Porbably would cost twice that to build these days.... no test pilots.

2 pointsI just scored these new wheels and I think they look pretty damn good. They are Japanese and I have no idea what brand. have attached photo before with 14" basketweaves and after with the 16" somethingorothers. Does anyone know what they are? Opinions welcomed - positive or negative. BTW I will prob be selling the basket weaves so expressions of interest welcomed. Problem is they make my car look faster than it is!

2 pointsOil/Filter change. Snapped sump bolt. Took so much force to get out it looks like it fractured, when I went to put it back in it barely got tight against the sump and the head snapped clean off. Luckily was doing said change at another forum member's house who had the right drill piece to pull it out. Emergency trip to scarles for a temporary alloy bolt. Will replace with proper bolt next oil change. Running much better now.

2 pointsAm I the only one who sees 'bagged' on an ad for a car - any car - and just moves on? WTF is the fascination with this? It's seriously spoiling my ability to pretend to spend money I don't have.

1 pointI guess it was inevitable that a near-30 year-old car with more than 350K kms has become a project. Aiming to keep it a maintenance project and doing my best not to allow too much mission creep. Anyway, got stuck in today literally... Starting with replacing a cracked left hand tail light that was glued in with a couple of kilos of sikaflex: Used replacement cost $80 and brand new OE gasket $25 (E31 equivalent would have been $100 just for the gasket!!!).

1 pointThis is my cosmic black 1998 318is M44B19 (sedan south african import), I'm planning to cover all four corners with new shocks and springs this summer as my first modification on the car and need some suggestions with what brands I should go with. My future plans for the car is to improve it's performance gradually overtime without swapping the engine to a 6pot (i understand it would be cheaper hp for dollar to swap but I like how light the 4pot is and want to keep it original) , ultimately I would like to be able to build up to something like a dasc supercharger even though they are quite rare nowadays anyways feel free to suggest modifications that would benefit the car in anyway possible as i'm open to all suggestions!

1 pointPaging Glenn, James, Steve etc... Hey i know there are several M5x and S5x E36 compacts on here now, I am looking for guidance for the drive shaft, everything should be swapped over in December, I am aware every where is very busy and/or closes up then for a few weeks, so if i need a custom driveshaft or get one balanced etc Id rather get the ball rolling now. I also want to know what the difference between a 4 cylinder and a 6 cylinder manual conversion is, if any. Some say there is no difference between the two, others say there is? from what i know about the M5x and M4x engines everything should be cross compatable but i havent swapped an E36 before so just want confirmation!!! Cheers lads

1 pointEuroItalian have treated me well in the past. Sterling Clutch & Brake in Onehunga, Brent @ BMWorld, BNT, Glenn our sponsor has given me invaluable advice over the phone and not charged for his time, Wallace Heron Engineers in Pukekohe.......the list really does go on. Will be ordering a replacement key through Milland soon, am interested to see how it goes. Moral of the story - most places away from the retail chain type parts places are usually staffed by people that actually know their stuff and can offer advice instead of hopeless conjecture.

1 point^ Wife - "why is there a hole in our lounge floor?" Allan - "Really? There's a hole in our lounge floor? Oh, by the way I sorted the engine on the BMW!"

1 pointFunny. I pulled in alongside this honda today and something just didn't seen right. At least they have good taste in wheels.

1 pointLaugh it up, Dave, and you can keep your Winkle paint to yourself!! Haha But in all seriousness, wrinkle paint is seriously good stuff for tidying up an ageing engine bay. It's not as tough as powdercoat though so you have to be more careful when reassembling.

1 pointI'm not laughing to hard.. Promise...rofl. That Winkle paint looks great. Will have to get some for the 740. And that engine looks clean Not bad for a car of that mileage.

1 pointHere is the nice new (ish) unit installed Wow what a difference.. I've been driving the car since I've owned it with the junk VANOS in it .. now it's a different machine! More torque and a much more responsive car overall .. from the info online about the materials used .. most VANOS units with any decent kms are not operating as they should. So best to get it checked out! Also had 7 stripped rocker cover studs which are nice brand new now. All in the life of a high kms engine!

1 pointSo this happened on the weekend. My initial thought was that some motherf**ker tried to break into the E28, being that it's the quarter window that's smashed......but it was parked at my brother's place, up a shared driveway, during the day, on Saturday. The conclusion was that it must have been the twat next door flicking a tiny stone (only about 3mm diameter, hole straight through the window!) while weed whacking his driveway. He's probably a really nice guy, but f**k him he smashed my window. I assume. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

1 pointYou mean people accelerate to 100kmh before the end of the on ramps? NZ (South Auckland particularly) needs a new road sign that says : Get off ya Fn Phone and Hurry The F Up for the next 100km

1 pointIn the last 12 hrs I have seen A motorcycle riding up the pavement against traffic then cutting across 4 lanes to take an exit on the other side of the road Stopped to watch a people mover take 3 erratic laps of a roundabout while the occupants discussed where to go Followed a car where the driver decided the best way to navigate merge was to stop dead and wait till traffic cleared.. And finally minutes after that a car weaving within its lane hitting the curb If I had been driving for the last 12 hours you could almost explain witnessing a large number of poor driving events, but no I have only covered 15km... WTF?
