5 pointsi can 1-up these photos.... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/rover/auction-1008110256.htm
-
4 pointsCome on! It's a Rover 75 - there's nobody stupid enough to buy one of those, so who cares what the photos look like?
-
3 pointsSounds like an issue with the electrical barrel on the back of the key barrel. I'd be starting there. Had mine fall off one day so key wouldn't do Anything
-
3 pointsAnd.... that wasn't the problem. It is a pulley having a squeaky session - power steering, I think. It'll have to wait. It's not as if I can get parts this weekend! So I did lots of other things instead. Little jobs, like removing the inlet manifold and giving it a clean up, removing the rest of the EGR gubbins and fitting my 'custom' blanking plate on the exhaust, replacing an errant brake sensor cable, and replacing the air filter. I've got some pics which I'll post in my 'high mileage' thread. (No, I didn't change the oil this time!) Still, made good use of a nice day. We could have gone out instead, and then today I would have been working in the rain! I do have to find a 3/8" drive 10mm deep socket that slipped down the side of the engine and didn't get as far as the ground. I think it is on the undertray or one of the steel beams. Anyone who has been there knows the pain and hope - ding (sh*t - dropped it) clang, clunk, ping, donk.... Silence. sh*t. No thunk sound of metal socket hitting concrete. I wonder where that's gone?

1 pointI wonder what the cops will dream up to say about the horrible death toll over the weekend and the abject failure of their decision to fine people who travel 4km over posted speed limits. There are so many things that contribute to accidents and doing 4km over the speed limit is likely to be at the bottom of any list. No doubt their spin doctors have their little minds whirring and pens running hot. Fatigue, poor driving regardless of speed they drive at, weather conditions and not driving to those conditions, poor concentration, etc etc all make a big difference yet the cops target the one that gets them revenue. Now why is that.

1 pointLSD centers for E24, E28, E30, E34, E36 med case diffs, just swap into your own center. See Trademe add for pics and E30 3.64 LSD for sale. $750 for diff or $700 for centers, won't get any cheaper with the US dollar where it is. Auction 1008405193

1 pointEasy way to prove if that is the problem or not is to remove the fuel cap and see if the problem goes away.
-
1 pointGoogle images of e30 ignition switch will show you the mechanical side and electrical side of the unit.
-
1 pointYour e36 will be Obd2. Most people keep the charcoal canister, otherwise the fuel vent line vents fuel fumes into your engine bay. If you do decide to delete it, use a 1watt, 1k resistor in the end of the wire to stop getting codes.

1 pointIf this is your first, there is a good chance you've not heard of RealOEM - www.realoem.com. Enter the last 7 characters of the VIN of your E39 and browse through. It'll help find the part numbers.

1 pointHaha I'm thinking so!So today was another day of playing bmws in the scortching south island heat. Touring2.0 got a centre arm rest installed this morning followed by an upgrade of the basic 8 button Obc for a 18 button. Was pretty straight forward as I remembered it, but had to run a new cable out to the temp sensor since it didn't have one before. All works well apart from the range feature, but is always inaccurate so doesn't really bother me. Also went to fit a tech2 m sport wheel while it was off but it's a non airbag one and couldn't be bother messing around with it so jus the standard sport one went back on. And pics after lows fitted. Still need to sort my other wheels out for it to, ether the acs rensports or the Mcoupe roadstars

1 pointits worth fixing in my opinion if the rest of the car is all right.A sound manual e 28 will have attraction to some
-
1 pointIm not in Auckland, so i dont know who that is (and the name doesnt sound familiar), but if a workshop takes 2.5 weeks to incorrectly diagnose an issue.... IMO they're looking in the wrong direction.

1 pointAirCon is always nitty gritty, epsecially if the gas had leaked. Sounds like a good job done though, definetly good to have the AC working and trouble free
-
1 pointit'd be cheaper to chuck the car on a trailer/transporter and send it somewhere reputable like Glenn, than to keep scatter-gunning parts at it with someone who doesnt know what they are doing.

1 pointE46 was making a funny Ticking noise from the rear, diagnosed it to the diff. Drained the fluid and pulled this out :| One of the teeth off the pinion wheel. So looks like I need a new 3.91 diff and an abs pump/module for it now. Looks like the missus is walking everywhere now since she can't drive the others since they're all manual. Between us, it Will do her some good anyway

1 pointKinda makes me a bit sad that your dad has decided to let it go - really hope the new owner treats it well and doesn't ruin it with coilovers and some stance bollocks! Ten bucks says the replacement auto is nowhere near as reliable as this either
-
1 pointLong time member, keep an eye on the forum but don't post much. Saw this today and love it. Especially the voltage meter. So awesome. Kudos!
-
1 pointOK so a bit of on update on the AC. Major works ended up occurring, while we had an initial gasket blowout there where a number of items no longer working correctly. -Clutch coil was shorting out -R/Drier replaced -Various o rings and gaskets -Clutch bearing at the same time -Aux cooling fan was shot and replaced with new, not worth second hand one -AC controller had a cup of dried coffee through it, replaced with second hand one -Re-soldering and testing of PCB module, also throwing errors So basically rebuilt, however now working fine, as you would hope for this lot. Parts ended up over $2100 and labour was $1000 (which all in all could have been a shite load more) So with GST a lovely $3516 xmas present. Overall happy with the work done for the money as well as the communication and discussion as the job went through its changes. Good job I want to keep it ! AC was the one area I'm not keen on tackling so have to just suck it up

1 pointHad a bit of a squeaky noise from the front of the engine. A quick look didn't show anything and I'd thought it was perhaps one of the pulleys feeling tired. As a result, driving was limited to 'absolutely essential,' and the 500SE pressed into service for shopping. (Mrs M hates going shopping in that!) Today, pulled things apart and found the aircon belt hanging off the front of the compressor. The smooth side was polished to a lovely sheen, and the ribbed side cracked all the way around, although nothing is missing. We were very lucky - if it had caught on the fan things could have been very bad indeed. These belts never get changed. BMW don't stock them in NZ, and RealOEM only shows a kit comprising belts, pulleys, and so on - p/n 11282339103. However (and for anyone who might need to know) the belt is a 4PK 968. If possible, get a 4PK965 as the 968 has the tensioner almost fully extended; the 965 doesn't fully compress the tensioner but does give a teensy bit of stretch leeway. While you're there, you may want to check the main drive belt, another 'never gets changed' item. Again, RealOEM shows this as a part of a kit, p/n 11282339099. Again, you can buy the belt separately at ~$90+GST from BMW (they have 1 in Auckland, but more often than not bin them when shelf life expires), or from a factor as 6PK2090. The aircon belt can be replaced from under the car (remove the engine undertray), but the main belt will require fan shroud removal, which requires removing the fan.

1 pointCan't us a sledge hammer approach (speed limits) on a larger problem it doesn't work. Their are many good points made in this thread and these are just a few of the issues which contribute to the appalling standard of driving and road conditions in this country. Start with the mentality of most of the driving public and get it cleaned up next a roading system which can more than handle the traffic volume that are present not one for the 70 or 80's which we have now. Then their may be a light at the end of this problem I said maybe. About as likely as seeing pink pigs fly by i know on a more cheerful note have a Happy and safe New year guys and gales

1 pointdoing about 400km over the last 48hours what I noticed was with my cruise control set at 100kph, verified as accurate with GPS I was passing almost every car as they were all between varing 80 - 95kph. with some of the massive brake checks I saw for no reason on a straight bit of road clearly the were all driving with their eyes squarly set on the dashboard.
-
1 pointI do around 50,000 km a year and the numbers of people doing 120 is a very low percentage of the traffic volume. The other reasons I gave at the top of this thread are the reasons people crash. They would achieve more by having caravans on the side of the road giving free cups of tea and a scone as that would remove fatigue and improve concentration.
-
1 pointI got a little beepy thing on the bike that let's me know when rozza are around. They've been hiding at the end of passing lanes all weekend, nabbing people trying to pass that a**hole doing 85kph the whole time then speeds up to 100kph soon as there is a passing lane.
