It fitted ok, some of the measurements were off, so some holes needed slotting this time. Overall I'm happy with the fit and look of it, will see about getting some thick brush on plastidip for the edges... Anyway, here's the pics.

Mounted them. Now I can get my RC's refurbished... finally!

Did some work on this for a change

Sorry dude, matte paint just ruins BBS's IMO. Bloody good wheels for the money though

Mounted these. Seemed appropriate to do it in the rain since they're semi-slicks. Drive to work tomorrow could be fun in the rain. Cold 225 track tyres verses sticky 255 street tyres... Thought I'd hate the black... don't mind it actually.

Yes, but what was the car like?

Car looks half as good without the RCs! Can't wait to see them all mint again

Bit more driving and trouble-shooting. Had the driveshaft out multiple times trying to work out the driveline vibration issue. Rebalanced (was pretty much fine). Turns out the angle of the engine->guibo was a little too severe. Down to compression of the new OEM rubber mounts I suspect. Shimmed the transmission mounts slightly, worked a treat. Shimmed the engine mounts slightly too as the sump was resting on the steering rack. Better again. Just been driving it around a bit. Awesome thing - so much torque immediately on hand. Diff might be a tiny bit short, but not as bad as I thought it would be. It is pretty fond of the one wheel peel though with an open diff. Gratuitous engine bay photo: Still to do: Windscreen washers Some electrical stuff Thermostat controlled electric fan Cert (& driveshaft loops) New sporty muffler Battery relocation

    I hope it doesn't turn into a... Cluster f**k.Sorry couldn't help myself

That was the first thing I tried, but it didn't work. So I hoped that the heat from the welder would be enough but even that wasn't. Feel free to ask me anything you need, I'm happy to help but I am not the most knowledgeable here by any means. Thanks. I decided to put my Sunday off to good use and do some work on my new cluster. Pulled it apart and removed the batteries. I don't care if the SI lights don't work if it means the cluster lasts longer. Unfortunately the batteries have already leaked a bit so I'm hoping this cluster works fully, I haven't tested it. Painted the needles red and polished the clear cover on the front. I wanted to remove the red lense for the lights that light up the cluster to get a white light, however I found out that it's moulded into the top of the cluster so it's going to take some work to do. I'll work on that once my other cluster is out so I have a spare to mess with.

Looks cool, but you shouldn't use bricks to hold a car up as they can crack or crumble expectantly. Wood is fine, just not bricks.

Thats a good deal. Wish I was in chch

more than a few weeks, but no that was a 328i manual, i actually enjoyed driving it too, more than i can say for any other E46 i have driven. hers just had flywheel issues, not sure where it got to before it was sold and if the problem was remedied. anyway, not relevant to this thread.

the 2.8L M52 ones make ideal donors for E36 compact race car builds. thats all that maters.

So since no one got back to me, figured I would be better off using the one that had the oil stop value, as this is supposed to help reduce wear on the engine by stopping the oil floating down to the sump while the engine is off. (Correct me if I'm wrong) Had a busy weekend: Replaced the o-rings in the oil filter housing with fresh ones, so that should keep it leak free for many years. While cleaning the oil filter housing, I noticed it to be rattling as I tilted it around, so figured it must be the oil filter... Took it all out, and not only had it not been changed for several years (I suspect since late 2012 based on the ownership of the E36), it was also the wrong filter (for the plastic housing). Here it is next to the new one: Yes, that is sludge caught in the filter (that was shorter and didn't sit correctly around the pipe) And today was spent swapping the sump, and attaching the oil filter housing. M52 Sump vs E34 sump: Reference back to page 1: I spent about 30 minutes cleaning that pickup Jamez.... And here it is all attached: Then had to get rid of this rear baffle attached to the M52 so that the sump would sit flat This week should be pretty busy getting the engine all prepped. Aim is to have the engine out on ANZAC day, then the M52 in the following weekend.

f**k it dude, just junk it - you'll only lose more time and energy obsessing over something thats already dead. Trouble with the M6x transplants into the E36/46 is the subframe vs sump issue. How about a single Vanos 3l stroked turbo M50? Better power, more torque and no engineering issues. Better yet, how about an LS1?

Looks like a tidy install, well done. All it needs now is some LMs & a Holset

Owned an 01 z3 with the 2.2L motor 10 years ago. Had it for about a year. Fun car to drive. Found the 2.2L sounded good in the car when driving but lacked performance. At the time, the 2.8L should have been the better car. Ran fine and zero issues. I later bought a z4 with the 3.0 motor ans was a much better drive / performance. Only issue with a convertable is that everyone looks at the driver and not at the car when the top is down. That is OK if you are a hot 20yo blonde ... lol

No maintenance or improvements, but spent the weekend driving the 540 (occasionally in anger) around the Matakana, Leigh, Omaha area. Every time I drive it I'm reminded just what a great car the E34 is.

gotta use lots of heat sometimes that breaks up the rust etc

Bought another car to tide me over. Another black motorsport e46 wagon, but with a m54b25 in it. I need to pull the head off my car and have a look before I settle on which direction I'm gonna go, but its now officially a project car. Will either put the m54 from the parts car in it or go full retard and squeeze in a m60 or m62. I've just been so busy with work, and helping a mate with his e36, that I haven't had the time (or the heart) to pull the head yet.

Started the last phase of the Megasquirt project. Wondered why I chose to tackle this while simultaneously minding the toddler. Also remembered just how hot solder can get when it lands on bare toes.

Been out cruising for a couple of days. Car got dirty and driven hard coming over Fields track. What an awesome piece of road. How to park your BMW. Please note, it takes real skill to take up 3 car parks..lol

Picked up my inner tie rods from the machine shop today. They look okay but it remains to be seen if they'll work. There are 3 slots, about 120 degrees apart from each other.

I've updated the post above from earlier in the day for folks interested in my cooling system. Cheers, you're right. Now with TIS also loaded up on the laptop I made a little trolley for the garage for it out of a beat up old TV cabinet on its side with some nice castors. Now I just clip the laptop into the docking station and I'm away! All the info I need right beside me.
