Hey all, Mark here. Currently in South Africa, but immigrating to NZ next month. Really looking forward to making NZ my families new home! Such a amazing country. I have always dreamed of building a e30 since I was a little kid. My father-in-law had a minter of a '89 e30 320i that just sat in his garage, tried to buy it from him for my first car but he was a d1ck and wouldn't let me. Anyway, decided that this year is my year to build my e30. But, before I do that I was hoping you all can help me. I have the option of bringing some parts over from SA that could work out alot cheaper. I am wanting a set of BBS RS and a set of widened steelies as well as coilovers. Can anyone shed some light on the costs of these in NZ? Oh and how does WOF and Rego work there? Cheers for now, Mark86

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1243206898&ed=true Interesting little E30 for you to ponder. Price for Bimmersport members is negotiable at around 13k.

And finally, the paint! As mentioned, the colour is very hard to take a pic of as it always looks different in photos. Here you can also see the front bumper's been completely trimmed out with custom brake ducts coming through the fog light holes. All trim on the vehicle (chrome strips/side mirrors/door handles etc) were painted black, as well as the stripes through the front and rear bumper to give a nice bit of contrast between the two colours. We also painted the intercooler and front piping to make it much more subtle, although these will eventually be replaced soon anyway.

Hey Bro, small world. I actually grew up in PMB. Moved to Dbn end of Primary school. Used to go to Bisley Park Primary School. Thanks for the advice. I definitely look into that.

Hey Mark, Welcome to the forum! Good year to build an E30! I'm getting to work on my turbo build this year, what mods are you looking at doing for yours? Mind bringing me some coilovers too if it works out cheaper? In terms of prices of things... Coilovers you're looking at minimum $1200 for some K-Sports, D2 or YellowSpeed. BBS RS in the correct stud pattern and offset assuming you're not doing a 5 stud conversion probably around $2000. Widened steelies.. There are D-Window steelies which have the correct offset and stud pattern I think they're around $600 for a set. (If anyone has a better idea of prices please correct me but I think this is somewhat accurate) Keep an eye on trademe.co.nz it'll give you an idea on prices. Be wary bringing car stuff in as they may try and charge you GST (I think?) which is 15% of the items value. I think other people who are more in the know can chime in here... WOF checks whether or not your car is roadworthy. Every 6 months for an E30 and every car pre 2000 (?) or so. After 2000 it's an annual Check. Usually $30-$60 depending where you go. Things like whether your seatbelts operate, tyres have over 1.5mm tread, brakes do their job, no structural rust, safety features function (ABS, AIrbags etc), Lights are all working, Windows not cracked, bushings are not overly worn etc etc. Oh, coilovers or any adjustable suspension require your car to have a certification. I'm still learning about all this but it's a process that requires the whole car being checked over and it's quite strict and expensive (~$500). Any major power modifications (adding a turbo, engine swap etc) also require a cert. Registration must be kept up to date and the price is dependent on the vehicle. Can be renewed either at a post shop or online. My E30 costs $127 per year to be registered. My mum's 2000 Honda Accord costs $112 per year to give you an idea of the variation. That's all I can come up with atm! Where in NZ are you moving?

Hi there, we have been working down in the South Island with our simulator truck and heading back to Auckland mid January.. Would anyone be keen to have a BMW only day of racing in the sims (8) and run teams of 2-3 drivers over a long Bathurst 12 hour comp.. or something like that.. Any ideas come back to me and we can set it up. Looking for a spot to park up for the day where we can have a few drinks and a BBQ $100 per team

I've just got a stock Sachs clutch. Feel is as you'd expect, light. Doesn't take much travel on the pedal to engage.

Haha but have so many pictures of the build I haven't posted up yet! Forgot to make a thread when it was being worked on so catching up as quick as possible! Here's a pic of the colour though.

Apologies - I didn't realise it was hidden from non-members. Thanks for the heads up. Selling my BMW 2002 Touring project. Which wasn’t meant to be a project...$8,500. I bought this 02 unseen in May for 6k off trademe from a bloke who had prepped it for rallying, but then stored it without racing it for years. I was more interested in getting it on the road. The vendor said it was complete, would have no troubles getting revinned and had no rust issues – sort of a ‘put the interior back together and go’ proposition. Sadly it was far from complete. I have spent a way too much putting the brakes and suspension back to stock and sourcing all the trim, headliner and carpet. I bought an original gearbox and transmission tunnel as it had been modified to fit a 635 5 speed, which wouldn't get certed (the stock 4spd gearbox is currently out). It had a roll cage, which wasn’t up to spec for motorsport (regs changed while it was in storage), which I have cut out. The seat platforms were removed at the time the cage was fitted, and rails for buckets were welded in. These are still in situ, but I have the panels and hardware for the seat platforms cut out of a wrecked car ready to weld back in. I have returned the rear suspension arms to stock, and rebushed them after cleaning them up and repainting them. New bilstein hd struts in the front (matching the ones in the back) new upper strut bearings. New Brembo rotors on the front, and rebuilt stock calipers ready to go on. I had the rear brake drums surfaced, and installed new shoes and handbrake cables. I got the original brake servos rebuilt and they are sitting in a box all clean and nice. I had a cunifer hard brake line set made to original spec, this is still in the box too. The car comes with new front and rear windscreen seals, lockstrips and lockstrip tool. New door seals, and a new hatch seal. The seals for the rear windows are out of production, but I have three seals from a sedan that are the same profile, and can be cut to fit. I have a new headliner sewn to fit in the right vinyl, and a nice salt and pepper carpet kit cut and sewn specially. I spent time on ebay and forums tracking down all the belt, knee and rocker trim, though the mounting holes for all these will need to be redrilled as they were filled when it went in for panel and paint some years ago. If you cant be bothered with that, I have some adhesive ‘chrome’ in the same style to fake it. The bumpers are here, and there is a hardware kit to assemble the rear. There is a good condition dash supplied with the car – the one in there was cut up to fit the roll cage. Two complete sets of seats, spare bonnet, hatch (the spare hatch isn’t in great shape) two spare fenders, a spare engine, a spare gas tank, a pile of other stuff like extra doorcards and whatnot. The engine starts and runs fine. The vendor said it had not much use since being rebuilt by sd european in Hamilton. Carjam and nzta still have the car in their system. The vendor couldn’t find the plates, so I got them as personaliseds, they will come with it. I have receipts and correspondence from the vendor, nzta have confirmed he was the last registered owner so registering it should be ok. I'm now seriously (inevitably, really) underwater on the car, having spent over 15k up to this point. I just can't go on pouring money into it, so I have to sell it. It has rust that will need attention, which I wish I had tackled first. The drivers footwell is the worst I could see – I got a replacement panel to swap in, along with the studs for the accelerator pedal. When I took it in to get the seat platforms put right and the footwell sorted though the shop identified rust in the passenger floor (front and rear) in a wheel well (guard?), the tow mount and in the roof too. If someone is into these cars and can weld, or has contacts who can, there is good value in this. You don’t see many 02s, and even fewer Tourings these days. I get that there is still a way to go with the project, and the $$ could seem high in this respect. I know I might have to split it up, but I’d like to give it a shot at getting back on the road in the hands of someone who has skills other than buying parts off ebay, and I think listing it all together gives it the best chance

Good price. If I had 45mm struts I'd be all over these. GLWS.
