2 pointsDunno, I tend to think of skylight/sunroofs as "That thing that will either break, or leak, or both."

2 pointsSeparate tool pr0n thread is the go. No confusion is good. Show us your tools. Discuss who sells the best tools. Stories of what you did with your tools. Who you shared your tool with. Who broke your tool? What happened when you went on holiday without your tool? Have you polished your tools lately?

1 pointDrove into the depths of Baltimore this afternoon to have a look at this old girl. (Think of the TV Show 'The Wire'). 2005 325ci. Stock standard. US spec (very strange). Pretty well optioned for a 3 series. And what the yanks would call low mileage. 128K miles. 128k miles is nothing here. I have seen E46's with 450k miles. Though I would not touch a car in NZ with this many km's. These vary in price so wildly in the States. From $1000 to $12000. Then the M3's go from about $8000 to $30000. By the time I get this back to DC and sort tax and registration it will prob owe around $4K. Specs: https://www.etkbmw.com/bmw/EN/vin/decoder/PL07660/EN Sorry about the sh*t pics. But less than 1 min later there was a brutal thunder storm and I had to leg it. Roadtrip time!!

1 pointI wanted to let this one go and I nearly did but....... In my experience it boils down to maintenance/repairs vs performance. For maintenance/repairs I am happy to let the shop do what they have to do, and there are a number of shops who do this and do it well and to be fair dont need to look at performance work because they are very busy fixing Euro cars that have proven to be somewhat less reliable than their Japanese counterparts. A great business model really. For performance, parts are often the hurdle; they are just not available here and workshops as noted above are focussed on repairs maintenance. Workshops often default to parts available in NZ which may or may not be the best solution for a performance upgrade and with DIY tuning options like COBB, MHD etc it is fitting and final troubleshooting/tuning that is wanted. (This of course may lead to maintenance/repair work as components fail when under stress) The problem with performance upgrades is that it is often the domain of the Flat Peak crowd with a clapped out Japanese sh*t box, no money and big dreams. But in the HSV FPV world a lot of tuners emerged who could meet the demand of the cashed up bogans and that segment were quite willing to pay, as a result that segment went upmarket and got away from its bogan/hoon roots and became professional. What we have in NZ is a lack of Euro tuning shops. Audi, VW, BMW and to a lesser extent MB now all have forced induction engines and chassis that respond well to basic upgrades. Forced induction is the cornerstone of the tuning world. We need a few shops who understand that mindset and can provide solutions. Fair to say we dont have that at the moment.

1 pointFound them, you have to search by the TRW Part number to get the cheap ones. https://www.amazon.com/TRW-Automotive-JTC1424-Premium-Control/dp/B00T9YJKV8/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501831201&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=trw+e90+m3+front+arms https://www.amazon.com/TRW-Automotive-JTC1423-Premium-Control/dp/B00T9YJL6M/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1501831201&sr=8-2-fkmr1&keywords=trw+e90+m3+front+arms https://www.amazon.com/TRW-Automotive-JTC1427-Premium-Control/dp/B00T9YJL8K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501832321&sr=8-1&keywords=trw+JTC1427 https://www.amazon.com/TRW-Automotive-JTC1426-Premium-Control/dp/B00T9YJL0I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501832272&sr=8-1&keywords=trw+JTC1426 Seems to be the right ones by comparing against the FCP Euro kit. Damn that's cheap. Have I definitely got the right parts?

1 pointand decent paint (the hood is knackered), and an interior that looks like it's not done 350k kms. decent tyres, and rims. hmmm, $3k is reasonable anyway.
-
1 pointPlease do. This thread is supposed to be more about what you used your tool for today, rather than a showing off the size of your tool schoolboy competition ;-)

1 pointI like this ^^ Wheel bearing replaced, everything back together. Success. Brake pad wear sensor light on/flashing (as if a bad connection somewhere). Checked wiring, nothing visibly wrong. Checked sensor, again no visible issues. Removed sensor and completed the circuit with a paper clip, light still on intermittently. Tried to explain to WoF guy that the pads and rotors are well within spec. No luck. Back home to remove cluster and more importantly the bulb in question. Success

1 pointI wish people would come back to forums rather than shitty facebook groups. Facebook is near dead to me. If I wasn't in another country and forced to share my holiday photos and activities with family I would have ditched it long ago. But the one thing that I really hate with FB groups is that you can not search for anything. If you were talking about something months/years back that had some good data or links, you need to scroll through the entire f**king history to try and find it. It is just not designed to retain data for the user. Oh and that nothing is anonymous on Facebook. Everything you post or read will be sold and used to push ads at you.

1 point.... add a BMW Club NZ sticker to that, and you're golden! 330i wagon e46 would be very nice, and they do come up.

1 pointE39 Touring > E46 Touring all day every day (edit: and E91 too.. I had a E91 325i msport and this E39 is miles better)

1 pointClowns in euros (mostly x3's and e90 320s...) who drive in the RH lane bouncing between 80 and 130 with their rear fog lights on. Seriously... think they looking all trick with their extra illumination when in reality they just dont know what the buttons on the dash do.

1 pointBought some 1 5/8th primary headers last week, arrived on Friday. Will get them fitted up in the next week or two! As you can see the comparison to stock is fairly significant.

1 pointToday 158534kms, oil change and filter. My first on the 545i. Used Penrite HPR 5W40. and Hengst oil filter, which is OEM filter (Hengst genuine filter housing), and the same filter as was used last time. It now sounds better when starting, and runs smoother. Result. May replace the oil filter housing, as it's drain bolt seems seized. Didn't want to faff around trying to free it up in case the car ended up incapacitated. Noteworthy: the Hengst filter comes with a new filter housing o-ring, copper drain plug crush washer, and another o-ring seal for the filter drain plug included in the box. Bonus!

1 pointI dunno what Teng really costs, but I got shitloads of it really cheap. I can break ANYTHING, but haven't broken anything Teng... yet. I once snapped the ring in half on a 17mm spanner - It was possibly related to having the meter long handle from the jack on it, but I'm not sure.
