3 pointsbought the car with the tech two kit already fitted and a m20b20 after owning it for around a year i wanted to make it more mine so i found a m20b25 for sale out of an old wreck, stripped it to the block and started again, standard rebuild bottom end with crank scrapers and sump baffle, the head got a lot of work done, port and polished intake and exhaust ports, re ground cam and rockers, bigger valve springs new valve stem steals and seats, 2mm cometic head gasket and apr head studs, custom intake manifold made as well as a custom fuel rail to hold the 660cc injectors. and to top it off a sinco turbo manifold with a garrett ta3410 and a 45mm hyper gate its had its first tune tune running 6-7 psi (waste gate pressure) and made 290rwhp so once it has a cert i will re tune on more boost around the 12-14psi mark ecu is a link g4 storm witch was installed and tuned by speed factor

3 points^ dude, let me tell you about racism at the gas station! I'm a white guy in a BMW and I pulled up to the bowser the other day and the coloured dude at the pump next to me filling up his POS didn't even offer to wash my f'ing window. Does he not know who I am? Geez.

2 pointsThe 2.5L N52b25 is alright in the e91 3 series but you will find the 2.5L lacking if you go for the e61. You will want at least a 530i or higher. Totally different cars in terms of size and how it drives. I personally wouldn't bother with the m54 versions in the new 5 series. There is nothing wrong with N series engines. If you want the e61 try to go for an LCI if it's within budget.

1 pointI thought it was about time I started a project thread to document what I have already done and what I plan to do to my E30. Hopefully it'll give me a little motivation to get thru the list of items that require attention. When I brought it 6 months ago it was running a little rough. After a quick trip to the Park Road E30 Performance Centre, the problem was quickly resolved. The distributor cap had a huge crack so that was promptly replaced and now runs like a dream. Items that no longer require attention: Oil change, Fitted a SA spec boot lining and half a tool kit , Replaced the sump that had a hairline crack, Removed the superlow springs in the rear that were not captive and replaced them with some lows, Fitted E36 window switches, Items that require attention: Insert items listed on back of Heineken box here... Here are some photos on the day I aquired the car. Enjoy

1 pointSo far I've gotten, "you want a what?!?" Also unfortunately I'm being pestered to keep my current wheels as they're the correct wheels for it. Which I can kinda agree with as it's pretty original for an ex army FFR landy. So now my thinking is to grab some more road based tyres for the 5" rims and buy some manlier rims and wheels a 2nd set

1 pointyeah subliminally i've been uploading this stuff not just as a progress memory for the future, but to tempt others to get into it. I mean who else wouldnt want black mesh, and black kidney grills, they make the car look way more agressive if you have a 330ci, you have to look aggressive. I can't believe the before and after shots of the car, wen't from average looking vehicle before - to 1000x

1 pointRascism at the gas station... Turn up at Caltex Bombay occasionally in the 130, I usually go to BP for 98 but sometimes it dont work out that way!, and I can always fill up at the pump no questions asked. Turn up at the same Caltex in the 96 Toyota, refused filling up. I even went inside and said "Hi, can I fill up?" and got "No, you prepay only" ... Economic profiling is the new rascism... #toyotalivesmatter

1 pointWould have to agree with Paul drive both and get a feel for the 5 and 3 series and you will see what we mean chalk and cheese. Kyu's points on engine size is also something to bear in mind as the difference between the e91 e61 maybe minor weight ,size wise but a couple of hundred cc makes a whole lot of difference. Don't rush it spend some time look at every thing, research them both then look for something that you like and put it through the purchase ringer. make sure you get a warranty with it. Just for those unexpected things that do go wrong after all it is a bmw

1 pointyou have to drive a couple .A 5 series is more car than a 3 series imo.I think after you drive a couple your choice will become clear.
-
1 pointReally? I did not know this. This would totally change my mind on our next wagon.

1 pointIntermittent further investigation is suggesting a secondhand petrol-engined, instead of (new or used) mains electric, unit may be a better bet. I think I can get something suitable - 2500-3000psi, 12-14L/min - for around $500. I've also found that more than a few people have bought older petrol-engined pressure washers to remove the engines and use them in go-karts...

1 pointSuspension was gone yesterday. I have the manual conversion and front discs and pads I'm keeping the box for the e21 but the pedal box with slave and clutch lines drive shaft and maybe the gear leaver/linkage are up for sale. I think the owner did not bed in the pads and discs, went for a spirited drive with new suspension. Tried to stop but couldn't. Was a well.looked after car.

1 pointWell shes pretty much been in storage for 5 years with house, baby and work taking priority. Other than the odd drive and clean very little has been achieved. Yesterday I replaced the rear sub frame and the control arm bushes which were completly shot! Bit of a job but got there in the end. What a different car now. No shimmy in the rear that i have to counteract when hooking gears at 6 grand ? Next on the list, a front wheel bearing. Onwards and upwards! Cheers

1 point1. Borrowed a cylinder bore gauge. 2. Went to zebra wreckers in Manukau for a m62b44 block. 3. Pulled engine out of a 540i at zebra. 4. Removed heads. 5. Checked bore with pistons still in and all good. 6. Pissed with rain so moved engine undercover. 7. Dismantled everything off the block as its the only bit I need. 8. Found cracks where the starter motor mounts. 9. Went home empty handed after wrenching for hours.
