6 pointsBought a lower kms trans and got the torque converter in it rebuilt. Did a basic service on the trans too, filter kit and drained as much of the old oil out as i could.

2 pointsOne month update. Just on 1000ks and around 120kw power use @ 30 cents kw equates to $36. Yes very, very happy with that. So far so good. This month need to go in and get connected drive sorted, want to look at putting Apple car play in updating the NBT. Using adaptive cruise a lot in heavy traffic, just makes life too easy. Only ever charged at home and just run the Rex to try it, finding 120ks is more then enough daily and waking up knowing I have a full charge every day elevates almost all range anxiety. Best feature: pre conditioning, set aux air to come on and pre condition the car so it’s up to temp for when you get in in the morning and have the Ac running for when you leave work at night, no more hot car to get into. I know plenty of BMs have these but battery concerns in the past meant I’ve never used it like I now can. Brilliant

2 pointsYeah I solved that problem by not adopting any more BMWs ? @Arata get this thing compression checked. The symptoms are not convincing for HG failure. Also listen to B.M.W LTD, he's a grumpy old bastard ? but that's because he's been fixing these things since forever.

1 pointHey, just wondering if anyone has the window motor setups for use in the rear doors of an e30 sedan. Pretty sure the motors are the issue as the wiring has continuity and reads voltage when the front centre console switches are pressed. Strangely no power (dont light up or do anything) to rear door switches though. Cheers

1 pointThanks for the feedback! Yes, a number of E39 M5 owners here have changed to euro clears. Very interesting point regarding the Dinan badge. Believe it or not, I have a history of keeping things to factory spec. My 840ci sport is completely original - everything in that car is like it left the factory in Munich. I was very sceptical about the whole Dinan thing upon arriving in the USA. In my mind the Dinan brand lacked the kudos of European brands such as Alpina, Schnitzer, Hartge, etc. However, the Dinan upgrades are pretty much part of the car's history. It was sold to a gentleman from L.A. in late 2002 - who spent approximately $12k on Dinan S1 upgrades upon purchase. With the mods, it was anecdotally putting out in excess of 15-20 bhp than factory. Dinan is a highly respected brand in the USA, and I have to say, this car goes extremely well. I thought about removing the Dinan badge for the whole stealth thing (in Germany they often de-badge everything - including the ///M logos on the side-trim)- but chose to keep the car how it was sold to the original owner.

1 pointSorry - wasn't trying to be cryptic, I got a ppi from them that missed a lot of stuff that would have stopped me buying the car. They were very nice to deal with.

1 pointBuilding back the ‘trust’ after a coolant job on an old car involves religiously checking coolant temps and for leaks after each drive. So far so good, lighting was a bit better so here’s a before and after of the engine bay. Many new shiny parts! Keen eye will notice the intensive washer bottle and pump delete. Replaced the washer jets with e60 fanning ones. So much better than the e39 baby pee dribble jets. Engine bay when first acquired. Engine bay after all M54 maintenance done, including new fan shroud and intake boots, and a good clean up.

1 pointNext up was clutch and flywheel. I'd previously used an RHD Engineering flywheel and M30 style (E28 535i) clutch in my E46 so I knew it worked. However this time for the flywheel I didn't get the super lightweight version, as the old one 'hung' at high RPM. Essentially letting the engine continue revving past when you depress the clutch. http://racehead.com.au/products-page/engine-components/bmw-lightweight-performance-flywheel-m50-m52-m54-s50-s52-s54-heavy-duty/ The clutch this time was an E28 M5 pressure plate and new 240mm clutch plate from FCP Euro (surprisingly cheap FYI). It's not a performance 2 stage or whatever, but I'm not turboing the car so this will be plenty. Also ordered new flywheel and clutch bolts.

1 pointThe earlier post mentioned about boot-mounting the battery. So Inspector Screwdriver went looking there too, and ended up cutting the entire battery tray out (rotten in the seams). While I was there I lent on the spare wheel mount, and pushed it straight through the floor. Queue much bleeding, swearing and how the F did that happen's, I looked underneath more closely. A previous owner had managed to apply bitumen patches over rust from underneath, then sprayed with underseal. Drive it on dirt roads for a couple of kms and no one's the wiser.....apparently. Closer inspection revealed they'd done this in the boot floor also. I know some cars have bitumen sound deadening, but this stuff was repco-grade stuff, complete with what appeared to be chinese branding still visible in places. Around this time I should also mention - I checked this car over pretty thoroughly. It's not my first rodeo, so places like behind the fuse box, upper scuttle area, inner arches and lower arch areas I had been pretty thorough on. Being this far in I could only cut more out, and fix it PROPERLY. And possibly buy more whiskey.

1 pointNow that the clear lenses are done - I am out of control - adding things to Bimmersport only days after my last note! ! No seriously, I found out recently that much to my chagrin, one of my foglight lenses were broken. Fortuitously, my mechanic is mates with the owner of Umnitza - who runs his business nearby (they sell after-market lights, body-kits, wheels , etc). In a nutshell, Matt the owner is a great guy - and we hit it off by virtue of having many things in common - not to mention he also owned a now -deceased E39 M5 also in Bluewater! Matt recommended I try one of his new LED offerings for the E39. Despite a different tone to the factory Hella headlights, I quite like it.

1 pointCasually having a stroll through Zebra Onehunga as you do and spotted a standard e39 fitted with black leather Sport seats. Boot and all 4 doors were deadlocked so out with the holesaw again. Leather is fairly good and all the electrics work but god damn were they in a state of filth. The drivers seat smelled of dog, sweat and mildew and the passenger seat was just mainly mildew and old beer smell. Spent a good day of solid dismantling and cleaning of the seats. Used some baking soda and white vinegar to kill off the mould and other gross. Will be letting these air out in the sun for a couple of days before installing.
