    I myself have no interest in purchasing this vehicle but I am curious about it, have a an over-developed sense of self-entitlement and time on my hands. So I don't see any reason why I should not be able to get answers to my questions about such things as the condition of the brakes and pads, have they been changed recently, shocks not leaking, ashtrays clean or stinky, condition of the floor under the carpet, oil analysis, last time it was serviced, any pet hairs on the upholstery, how much fuel in the tank and was the first owner a doctor or lawyer ? This information will help me increase my knowledge about cars I have no intention of buying. And if the vendor is really serious about selling the car it would be a good idea for him to get it on a trailer and bring it round to my place so I can ask more stupid questions. Failing to provide this service would clearly indicate that the vendor is falling short of my expectations. This is an example of an over-stretched analogy and if the first owner was a lawyer and reading this, he would most likely mutter " Reductio ad absurdum" Cheers...

    Not BMW again, but meh. Had the clutch replaced on the Maserati yesterday. Now that's a scary bill. Glad to have it done though so I don't get the silly limp mode anymore. I got an Alfa Giulia Veloce as a loan car and It was rather nice. With 280HP and 400NM it goes really rather quick with a huge amount of torque from 1500-4500rpm and apparently only weighing 1500kg, it certainly feels muscular. I'd say it's probably quicker than our 535i and, in general use, would leave the Maserati behind. Decent quality in/out as well, the only thing missing would be the latest german tech, but I'm not really into that stuff. Red interior also looks slick.

    Finally have managed to complete I guess this car to a point where I'll take a wee rest... Replacement bumpers and bootlid now on. Did my own painting, sanding, cutting and polishing with a pretty OK result in the end... Remade "BMW582" has gone on and the all important "M" badge šŸ˜² to complete the (now) NZ new type look. Just an annoying oil leak remains which I fear is the driver side top chain cover which I don't think is a small job. It may have to wait a little....

    Great start to the weekend - got an ECU tune + burble / crackle map done and most importantly got my my rev hang fixed which has been a pet peeve since I've had the car - I had learned to drive around the rev hang (slowing shifts down), feels much sharper and lighter now. Car feels livelier, although probably Placebo, but it is definitely driving almost as good as it looks now Sounds good too - the burbling / crackling is obvious on deceleration but not obnoxious as the Supersprint is a reasonably quiet muffler.

    Fitted the spacer....had to modify a spanner....box and shaft square, no minor vibration anymore...car feels so solid...started pushing her. Took her to 100 kph... What Ls...

    My sense is the diesel torque suits the trucks better than the N55 (they're not sporty) - but 3-5k pays for a lot of extra gas...

    Fantastic engines, daily drove my 135i with a n55 for 3+ years and had zero issues. Economy wise the 135i only had a 50l tank and I never got over 400km to a tank around town (Auckland traffic), on the open road I managed to get 500+. I expect economy to be quite a bit worse in a much heavier chassis. Never even leaked a drop of oil. Regular maintenance is key along with an alloy charge pipe. I actually think it'll be fine in an E70 chassis. Best to test drive and see I guess?

    Yep just oil leaks. The n55 can be surprisingly frugal. I managed 6.2l/100k from Bombay to Hamilton once.

    My 2 cents on this car. The seller is doing the right thing in regards to how he has advertised the vehicle. He is not obliged to honour ay whimsical requests for pictures of the rust or to disclose if certain things work on the vehicle as he has it advertised for parts or repair only. Him doing the things the entitled bidders are asking would be simply to appease them and for their convenience. I myself have bought many a car out of town, sight unseen and knew the risks in doing so before hand and took them into account before buying the vehicle. If you want something bad enough you must be willing to undertake the work needed to get it back to former glory and not look for a bargain all the time when vehicles of this kind of rarity come up for sale. I have no affiliation with the seller, neither do I know him but I must commend his patience cos I simply would of said, if you don't like it F%$^ off because this isn't the car for you. Technology has made people to entitled to others making things convenient for them I say. That car would require a lot of work but to the right buyer, it's nothing.

    Got the engine leveled out setup a reference 'grid' with the laser to take a bunch of measurements needed to model up the new drysump pan. Was hoping to keep it using a wet sump but expert advice determined there is little room to make something bulletproof. Thats about it lately ... will be many hours on the computer next to model the pan and hopefully get to a workable and easily manufactured solution.

    Have started sanding down the bonnet and rest of the car now, home stretch Did a few more long sands and guide coats sharpening up the lines and shadows on this panel too, the results are REALLY starting to show now. Its amazing how you think you have it close, and then you put it out in the light and realize things are still warped to buggery It seems obsessive trying to get that line really crisp, but if its not 100% flat and the surface below the line doesn't feather into the next countour, it REALLY shows drastically when the light hits it, a small kink makes the entire side look rippled as. Something about those arches and contours very unforgiving. Having to dig deep though and stick to the process of guide coats / right sanding blocks for the job and grind away at it, and then repeating with more primer runs. I'm pretty much signed off now on the panel work and im in final sand down stage! HERE WE GO

    God, Chucked her in the light, letting the shadows show what the guide coats are even struggling to show and she needed a few more runs, nightmare! Why the hell was this panel so warped haha She's good now, moar block sands, and some 3am finishes so i could use some lighting to cast shadows on the area as i was having to move the car around the drive way to use the sun to cast the shadow haha

    No pics, but just as I was feeling good about my freshly washed E46 , keeping the E30 lust at bay, I saw who Iā€™m pretty sure was @hybrid race by in a stunning silver tech 1 šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼ Sunday in Birkenhead.
