Last week I had the lights protected by Obsessive Car Detailing in Auckland. Great team and you can't see the film unless you're really, really looking. I installed the headlights last Sunday afternoon (11 December) after the 24 hours waiting time for the protectant film to fully set in place. They look amazing both off and on. the Auto levelling works as it should and they are adjusted pretty well but will need some fine-tuning at some stage to ensure the aim is in spec. After a short drive in the rain on Sunday, I noted some very light condensation in the left-hand side. This dissipated pretty quickly but was concerning as it meant the seal wasn't weather-tight. I decided to remove the light, separate it again, and reseal it from scratch. Upon removal, I could see I hadn't been liberal enough with the sealant on this light and it had rolled rather than bulged when I had pushed the lens home. ( I've also read that Xenon and LED units don't get as hot as Halogens, so won't evaporate moisture to the same level. The sealant was heated up in small sections and scraped out using a plastic trim tool. An all-new more liberal bead of sealant was laid in the channel and the light reassembled. The light is back in the car now and working great, fingers are crossed that the condensation doesn't return as I don't fancy pulling it apart again This closes the lighting chapter in project E39.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for the things I own to improve in value. However I also struggle to believe a vehicle I brought has skyrocketed in "value" in less than two years. It's not like in that time half them fell off the road or got written off so they got rarer. I believe it's to do with "hype" combined with what was low interest rates over that period and essentially "free interest" lended money. This is confirmed when in the last 3 months the car values are dropping 20% atleast from a year ago and appear to be sitting on trademe from the auctions I follow across all sorts of vehicles

Im still not convinced these sort of cars actually sell for close to asking.

I agree. Even in peak times its also hard truly what some vehicles realistically sell given its usually a private 1 on 1 deal. I think half these sellers just try it on for size and hope to get lucky.

Super clean E34 manual 525xi touring. Sub 100k km according to carjam and Oxford green over beige leather 😍

Talk to Paul at Milland. He got my E39 ones years ago, much, MUCH cheaper than the dealer here (and he never supplied a wrong part, like the dealer often did!). It was all factory, matched and reading to go, just needed syncing, as normal. I assume he gets them from a dealer overseas somewhere?

N55 is fine. Oil leaks are common but otherwise good. Should be enough tug in one to get an X5 moving, it works fine in the 535i and would be totally fine on the open road.

A 30d SE was $128.5k in Jan-11, plus the Performance pack, 7 seats etc, probably more than $100k. $1/km?

I guess I'm coming from a place of having never financed a vehicle. I just don't agree with their interest rates.

The way I potentially see it. If it costs an extra few thousand when your potentially borrowing money at a lower interest rate, it doesn't make alot of difference at the time to ensure you get the purchase. As a percentage when your spending larger sums of money to add on the extra "tax" people are trending to do it. Overall bang for buck the e30/36 chassis is still pretty good compared to other desirable vehicles. I certainly won't be selling mine anytime soon, I'd have to finish it first 😂

Nothing unusual then! Nice to see a loved one owner NZ car. Wouldn't read too much into it. We've no idea what kind of loads, journeys, driving style, etc.

Another renaming / re-branding to try and lose their image of “Peter breaker” which they worked so hard to get!🤣

Hi, I bought this car. Good original condition, not flawless but a good survivor. I like the auto as I drive it quite a bit in Auckland traffic. I've got other toys that are manual. I've also got an E46 330i for daily use.
