2 pointsyep the manual 316i FL is the lightest spec e30, less sound deadening, no electric seats, no sunroof so lower c of g and best of all no rusty sunroof leaking! they are the bomb. give everything on your 33 year old nana car a birthday, rubbers bushes QUALITY tyres fuel lines cooling system shocks fluidsbrakes... wof rego insurance, and go and enjoy the pure spirit of driving an analogue manual car. teach yourself to drive in the wet without losing the tail, learn cadence braking, learn to heel-and-toe double de-clutch. more fun than your first shag and longer lasting too! 😂

2 pointsI hate the ones who when I'm daily turning right off a main busy road into our side street and am sitting on the white line waiting for a gap , they suddenly decide to be helpful and stop as they approach to let you through holding up all those behind and nearly causing nose to tails , completely against all road laws and just stupid dangerous, and there's always a gap about 2 cars behind them which you had already seen and anticipated, wife says there just being nice but I just wish they actually drove sanely and consistently. none of them ever look or aware of whats behind, I can forgive an obvious occasional gradual slow down from a long way back and even a headlight flash to give you the nod but otherwise they get the evil stare

1 pointHi all, Here’s my Topaz blue 2002 E39 540i M Sport. Picked this up from @hqstu three months ago and have since completed over 6,000km. The condition of this vehicle is a testament to extensive work completed by HQSTU previously documented on his e38/39 Central DHB post. Certainly surprises people when you tell them it now has over 296,000km on clock. With all the big jobs already completed by HQSTU very little work has been required. Replaced number 8 coil with genuine BMW coil but after another coil failed the following month I decided to replace the remaining 7 original coils with new matching Bosch coils, this time from FCP. Replaced the rain light sensor (RLS) to restore function of the auto wipers, $32 from Pick a Part. A few other things to sort. There’s always something to fix on a 20 year old BMW.

1 pointJust bought my first BMW, a Japanese import 323i. It was looked after really well, until it wasn't. Under the rubbish, parts of the carpet were immaculate. The headliner is sagging and the door skins, no surprise (I went into this with full knowledge and denial of what I getting myself into). However the rest of the interior is in fairly good nick and the stereo is bluetooth integrated. The boot lining and plastic panels beneath had been destroyed by the weight of the old transmission in the boot and the black oil leaking from it. It only needs two tyres, they are bald (massive understatement) as for the running gear I haven't had a close look yet but it seems goodish. The engine idles rough but is otherwise good, I will find out more after I figure out why the Transmission is in limp mode. I've put a new battery in the remote and replaced the fuse that got the central locking working and now I can programme the remote. Reading all this I feel like I paid too much, but I'm stoked every time I see it and hear the doors close and figure out something new on it and I spend most of my spare time watching YouTube videos on e36s and all associated repairs (its cold outside). I've bought a user manual and I'm ready to get my hands dirty. Wish me well on my journey

1 point30 June 2023. 1875??kms I dusted off the e60. Since the WoF, just a monthly start. Covid mkII in April, life has been quiet. 1. Full Tank of Fuel Posterity post. We'll remember when fuel was "cheap". I took the opportunity to fill the tank before our "finance minister" put the Excise and GST (29c per litre) back on fuel during our cost of living crisis. $2.31/l As I type this 20 July Tinakori Waitomo 95 is $.59.9/l according to Gaspy, BP Connect Adelaide Rd are charging $2.999/l, and BP Connect Roadmaster is rewarding big spenders with $3.139/l of 98. Still, a cruise up country at 9.5 litres/100, it's pure pleasure! 2. Fuel Stabiliser Protecting that fuel 'investment'. I figured while it spends a little more time in my rented garage, I should take measures to avoid 65 litres of fuel going off. Penrite Fuel Stabiliser to the rescue! So yeah, you buy this, it comes with a full tank! I used to run it exclusively on BP 98, stopped a few tanks ago. The Waitomo is good.

1 pointhttps://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/435d/listing/4211217083 Not often these pop up for sale. Little bit poverty spec, but beggars can't be choosers. Less said about the wheels the better, but I can't think of many better ways to rip up the Cardrona hill to get some runs in, it even has the racks for your board! I've always wondered why the cooking diesel F3x's didn't get the twin pipe setup like the petrol 35i/40i, maybe due to X-Drive constraints?

1 pointyep, not a single other car on the street has been damaged. Yeah only park it there due to ongoing house renovations which means no garage and a cross lease driveway with an unfriendly neighbour. Once fixed I will find somewhere else to keep it, had enough. I appreciate it regardless! Pretty gutted but not much I can do, I will get it repaired and learn my lesson not to park it in public places anymore.

1 pointYeah, that f'ing sucks dude, so sorry to see that, you have my sympathies (although I know they don't really help). I'm angry for you. 🤬
-
1 pointLots of trash around that obviously gain enjoyment from damaging nice things, if your car average condition common car im guessing it wouldn't have happened. I wouldnt own anything nice if i had to park on the street for reasons like this.

1 pointPeople who key cars, just had both sides of my car keyed, wtf is wrong with you, what makes you think you have the right to f**k up other peoples property.
-
1 pointmade my own one of these, cost me effectively $0, had some flatbar lying around and had my brother tig weld it up for me. Thanks for the inspiration, works very well!

1 pointLove a Herald, had lots of fun in & working on many a Herald, Vitesse, Spitfire & GT6. Is yours a proper convertible? Seen a few saloons with the bolt on roof removed and a weird style soft top.

1 pointGot round to working on the car again, really not a whole lot left to do on it at this point. Hoping to race Superlap next season so decided the next thing to do was to install harness eyebolts. That being said it definitely does need some bigger swaybars, adjustable end links, a baffled sump and potentially a transmission oil cooler later on... For now i drilled more holes in the car and installed a harness, its an expired one (FIA 2020) that i had lying around but should still be good for MSNZ clubsport events till 2025 and can easily be swapped out for any other 6 point harness. All eyebolts installed with the appropriate MSNZ approved doubler plates. Also got a MSNZ spec fire extinguisher that ive got to come up with a mounting bracket for. In other news, car officially has a MSNZ logbook! Still need to submit the paperwork for the Rollbar Homologation, and then get my motorsport license. Then just a matter of emptying my bank account to buy all the safety gear, trying to race your car is not a cheap exercise haha...

1 pointI'm pleased it's going well for you Taylor, albeit a few coils and a RLS... great photos. Keen to keep updated, and yes there is always something... but I think you've started from an OK base 😎 Cheers.

1 pointLooks nice, always get good prices for Tech II coupes. Is it a genuine M325i and manual?

1 point@Driftit I know where you’re coming from, however, it is still an E30 which is still cooler than 95% of the cars out there today. Let’s face it, it’s pretty much pointless having any car with more than 90hp these days, between traffic and reduced speed limits you can’t enjoy any more power than that. Well in Akl anyways.

1 point~203km Thanks to Hell BM, a few maintenance items that have it driving like it’s 15 years newer. - drive shaft bearing, new guibo (2nd time it’s been done. Was trashed) - all gear selector bushings etc. (existing e60 short shifter) - engine and gearbox mounts - new boot struts!!! - coded out LED errors. I’m convinced people pay a lot for new cars for that “hard” LED indicator flash. Certainly modernises it. The drive train feels (relatively) smooth and awesome. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

0 pointsSpeaking of damage to the car, someone has decided they dont like my car very much and thought it would be a good idea to key it. Not only one side, but both. Absolutely gutted, spend so much time and money on this car just for someone to walk past and decide to f**k it up. Clearly intentional, done both sides, on of which repeatedly with some serious aggression. Occurred on the same culdesac as the previous damage to the front bumper/fender. Honestly don't know why someone would do this, they gain nothing from it. Car is going to the panelbeater on monday, not looking forward to the bill, being a fulltime student money isnt exactly something i have lots of. Spoke to all the neighbors, nobody has a camera or saw anything, and insurance is only 3rd party so will be paying for it myself. Pretty upset and not exactly very encouraging, when people continually find ways to destroy your hard work. Originally the plan was to start racing the car, but that might have to wait a bit now.
