need to make a new rubber seal for the E21 steering rack, so made up an aluminium mould and bought some urethane to have a go at casting a replacement...

Had so much fun at the hillclimb I decided to take it to another event, Hooncorp event at the mere mere drift track. Was great fun and ended up 4th/37 on the day, only one second behind a purpose built turbo 1UZ swapped e36 coupe on 265s. Car performed flawlessly once again, albeit oil temps getting up there, not an issue on a short 2 lap sprint, but definitely something to think about for longer events. Stoked to be putting the car to use, halfcage, harness and bucket seats aren't just for decoration.

Been a while as I don’t drive this too often - car has been reasonably faultless - only a service so far and steering rack knock fixed (common issue apparently). This weekend I took advantage of the nice weather, took a gulp and handed the wife the keys to the E30 and took the F31 solo camping at Tawharanui. Naturally feels like a Rolls Royce on the open road compared to the E30. Next mission I reckon I’ll take the E30 camping as pretty sure I can get all the same stuff squeezed in there and it will make for better photos haha.

I do love a motorsport spec E36 in Estoril blue, even if it a lil stubby boi

Been a while since I posted in here, been very busy with my (hopefully) last semester of uni. Took the 135 to tis first msnz event, doctors hill road hillclimb. Really enjoyed it and the car did really well! Managed 13th/34 on the day, not bad considering it was my first event and there was quite a few pretty serious racecars. IMG_7673.MOV

No pics but the tanzanite blue M3 Touring at Continental BMW looks lovely. Also spotted a German plated estate on SH2 in full prototype camo - first two letters of plate were HN so speculating it might be the new Audi A4 B10 Avant

Have you got a towbar on that? I’ve got one in the garage if you’re interested. Great photos and I do love a wagon.

Got to be one of BMW worst transmissions. Makes the timing chain guides seem not so bad.

Sad but true. Let rip the can of cavity wax, got it in wherever I could. Don't get much out of a single can though. Might get another one next time I have the bumpers off for whatever reason and pump the chassis rails all the way through. Fuel tank, plumbing and all the plastic covers reattached. Now it's onto the real fun bit with a bunch of brand new and refurbished parts getting thrown on. Made a start at the front end with new control arms and tie rods going on. Another long night tonight and hopefully will have her back down on her wheels tomorrow. Also, made an extended socket (BMW Special Tool #24193531) for installing the front subframe mount studs out of the otherwise useless imperial sockets that came in the toolkit, although not sure if there's a torque spec given for these at all.

Thanks mate, I'll wait until she's back up and running without any clunks or rattles before I pass judgement on that I think this video is where I heard that bit about the guide tube, from about 5 minutes in. Made sense, and I'm glad I did it looking at the condition of the old one. Cost $80+GST from the dealership. I did have a bit of a squeaking noise when pressing down the clutch previously, pretty faint and nothing to be overly concerned about but now with the new tube in it's perfectly smooth and quiet. The DSSR also seems to have gotten rid of some slop in the linkage, the shifter used to have more side to side movement when in gear, noticeably reduced now. Bit more progress from last night. Engine bay and front end all put back together and buttoned up. New oil filler cap - was cheap as chips, and not repping Castrol anymore. Also, finally replaced the front air duct that had been missing ever since I got the car, although it "didn't need one" according to the PO... Impossible to find these in good condition second hand or at wreckers nowadays so got a brand new one through the dealership. Having that extra bit of access did come in handy at times but does make the front end look more complete without a gaping hole right behind the bumper. Front subframe also got a bit of rust treatment and a few coats of paint whilst being dismantled, tidying up the underside quite nicely. Suspension reassembly next, finally.

This sounded good with the S62 - don’t think I’ve seen another

Not much been happening with the car lately, but finally got the rollbar homologation done so its all officially MSNZ approved now, logbooked, homologated, got my car club membership and M grade license so ready for a hillclimb later in the year. Still need to get around to measuring correct swaybar endlink length and order a set of adjustable ones.

The beautiful E38 has found a new home on the Mainland! Super pleased it has gone to a genuine enthusiast 🙏 One less sensible vehicle... In other news... M5 (in the garage) has a completely flat tyre - bought a very neat Ryobi 18V inflator tool from Bunnings but it appears the valve is stuffed as all the air came straight back out 💨 Tow truck and tyre repair/replace 🤷‍♂️ X5 had some slip on a gear change when driving into work - then boom 'Trans fail safe prog' 🙄 limped back the ~1km to Driscoll Motors and we'll see what the story is. This had a full trans rebuild December 2018 - and I've done 25,000KMs since then... so not thrilled.
