  1. Happy Birthday Josh From the Team here at BMW LTD
  2. Sounds very much like you have a torque converter lock up clutch problem. There should be a reliable Auto Trans repairer down there in New Plymouth

    Queenstown

Been there quite a few times. We used to go down every year on the bikes... do the Hokitika festival then on down to Queenstown. I also lived in Burnham for a year in my army days. I love the roads & the people down there. It's a lot different to Auckland.

    Queenstown

Be there tomorrow.. anyone else going to be down there ???
  5. No... pin outs are different
  6. You might be looking at a new block then. I doubt the epoxy will have the strength and deal with the temperatures. Show us a picture... by PM if you like
  7. A heli coil would be better. A pic of the mess might help with suggestions. Welding is probably not an option
  8. Correct... and you need special tools or you will damage the oil filled genuine bush. It also needs to be correctly aligned
  9. No.... Oil leaks, cooling system leaks, chains and valve stem seals are the most common faults on these N46 motors...the same as the N42
  10. You can't price something like this over the internet. The actual fault must be diagnosed / determined by the repairer to give you an estmate. The cost can also vary after stripping as these are old cars and made of degrading materials that can break when working with them.
  11. Possibly Graham... It leaked oil, leaked water, had tuning issues, wasn't reliable, kept shearing L/H axle keys due to play in the axle... I carried spare keys. The only chicks it pulled was ones who felt sorry for you because you owned a lemon. Not much has changed really. BMW owners still continue having these issues. BTW: I was 15 and still at school
  12. Thats normal.. if it comes on while driving it becomes a problem. The warning only comes on while it is doing it's self check prior to starting
  13. Has someone changed the remote Batteries ? If so the key would have to be reintitialised to make the central locking work.... that could be the first problem. When the person had the back of the key open to change the batteries, the EWS chip may have fallen out which would give you your second problem of not starting ( recognising the Key ) I have had this occur twice in the last 2 months... open the back of the key and post a picture of the internals.... BTW.. how many keys do you have ??
  14. Mine was one of these http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikerawlings/7759110240/
  15. That's because it's faulty.... now you will need to change it to get the WOF
  16. Your advertisement doesn't comply with the Forum rules. Pictures, a full description & a price is required
  17. Manual and auto radiators are different. How are they going to eliminate the original cooler and water supply to it ? If the cooler is faulty, just replace it. First and foremost, you must make sure that it is the cooler which is causing oil in the water. Diagnosing the fault correctly will reduce the final cost.
  18. 13 was 50 yrs ago..1963... before a lot of you on here were born.. I think that works out to 47 years of smoking. Starting of with a packet of 10 Greys a week for 1 shilling & thrupence to two packets of Winfield Blue 25's a day before I stopped.
  19. I don't feel I have, or others have the right to force people not to smoke. Maybe that's the answer though, or shut down the manufacturers. I feel sorry for the people who would rather not or can't afford to smoke and have trouble kicking the habit / addiction. Kicking it is very hard and also has consequences. Especially for people who have smoked a long time. Getting people not to start is better achieved by education, not laws, and perhaps leading by example. In my younger days, smoking was fashionable and manfacturers were the supporters of all sport. The movies & TV were full of smoking legends. Both my parents smoked and as a youngster I couldn,t wait to grow up and be able to smoke like them and all my hero's. I started when I was about 13/14. In the end smoking could still effect what happens health wise in the future. You just don't know. What I do know is smoking increases the likely hood of an earlier death than being a non smoker all your life. For those reading this thread... please try to give it up. It get's much harder to do as time goes by.
  20. You really need to be carefull now...don't take her to meetings or Bimmersport activities.. she might get talking to someone and your fears may come to a reality a little sooner. This forum crawls with deviates
  21. I'm sure her new BF will put her right
  22. The oil cooler is seperate to the radiator and fits onto the adaptor plate on the radiator. If its got trans fluid in the cooling system and water in trans, the transmission will be buggered too now.
  23. The leak will most likely be from the oil filter housing and oil cooler profile gaskets on that side- done 3 this week. These motors and the N46 are quite problematic and leak from rocker covers, breather hoses, oil filler caps, sump gaskets, vanos seals, brake vacuum pumps, power steering pumps, P/S hoses
