Stunning car Ray. Would look just the part parked alongside my E12
-
That is a "get you out of jail" trick. I would hate to think in doing breakdowms over the years, how many people have seen me do that to get them going (& warn that it needs fixing) only for them to think - I can do that, & do until ... it refuses to start ever again. Adding to, another classic - they clout the yoke & break the permanent magnet fields - rendering it non repairable - new starter
-
Manual doesn't, auto does, but to be honest - have never needed to find it though. It will be one of the relays behind the glovebox. Not under the bonnet.

Years ago AMI were depreciating the E12 by plenty every year. I had them on about it, suggesting because of its age/condition, & becoming rarity it wasn't going down in value. And challenged them to find a better example of this car in the country. I was required to get a written valuation, which I did, & was 6k more than they had allowed. I presented this, which they agreed to, & told them that I was only doing this once. Years later, without arguement - it is still at that value, although now on a classic policy. Yes, I agree, an older car of consequence, that stands out from the norm, does tend to plateau in value

E60 Video Module - Freeview NZ?
hotwire replied to RustyItalian's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
To my knowledge BMW don't make a digital video module to suit the NZ frequency. -
Cant see why you can't just disconnect the wiring to the headlight. Anyway, there is no line pressure in the oil system with engine not running so no problem in disconnnecting that. I would simply disconnect the wiring though.
-
Yes it has a syphon type tube to equalize, where the return line enters the LHS, travels down to the bottom of the tank, along & rises up over the bridge & down into the swirl pot on the RHS.

Happy B Day Ashkan. No doubt by now you are - with that said keg
-
OUCH, but atleast you had the sense to take pics of evidence & complain
-
Smell of burning oil & running rich are two completely different smells. From above advice of possible causes - best confirm the culprit before diving into things.

^^^ Yep def not Royal. Agreed it looks like a custom. Nice too
-
Don't use an X5 monitor in E38/39, the pixel layout is different to cater for the different veiwing angle in the X5 Also, you need to upgrade the video module too
-
^^^^^ Yup, seen that with customers cars many times over the years

Suddenly feel old Dave HB, catch up at the weekend
-
^^^ Electric motors. Unbelievable control. I can barely fly them let alone control like that
-
Cant see how you need to remove the screen to fit the trim. The screen is eurothaned in, how the hell can you fit the screen in the first place with the trim already fitted?
-
Just get a replacement fitted. It is only a trim - the screen is glued in.

E39 4:3 onboard monitor buttons playing up
hotwire replied to BreakMyWindow's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Plug & play BUT you need to replace both the monitor & the video module with 16:9 units. 3rd generation video module is both 4:3 & 16:9 compatible. Nav works with either. I changed them a few years ago - wouldn't go back -

I'd say - just upgrade it to a 16:9 - you won't regret it! -
The unit in the front at the end of the cam is the distributor, but that's all it does - distribute HT spark. The timing controlled by the ECU. As above - first check that cam timing is correct, if unsure of it's age - replace it
-
Or eyecrometer - works a treat, usually...
-
Being 88 - is it a pre facelift (chrome bumper) or F/L car? If pre - has a distributor on LH side of engine to adjust timing in usual manner. If F/L car - it is Motronic which is full engine management & ign timing is controlled by ECU
-
Just got mine from the stealers a few years ago when I needed to replace them. Simple job on the PFL lamps, have never opened the FL lamps to have had experience with them
