  1. Had intercooler sprayers in my Evos. Good for when you're sitting at the lights and your charge heat is increasing rapidly, useless everywhere else. FWIW.
  2. I couldn't be sure I'm afraid. I expect a water pump would be at least two hours labour + parts and assuming you mean "timing belts" then that would fit into the same window but parts again would be extra. If an E30 is about the same cost as an E36 then pump, thermostat, belts, pulleys would be ~$250 and then more if you needed tensioners, hoses, clamps etc, etc. Talk to one of those shops above, you should be okay. If you have doubts or questions about their advice then post back here. Edit: if the engine needs to be "timed" and you're asking these questions then don't buy the car.
  3. I like how you put your keyboard in artistic mode there Malcolm. You need to get your car scanned before you buy anything. What year is the car and which city do you live in?
  4. It was a few years ago but I got mine from here: http://www.bindons.co.nz/ I dealt with Shane Wombwell, he was very helpful.
  5. There are a number of quality places, including some of our sponsors here, depends where you live. East: Botany Motor Worx Central: BM Workshop Shore: Bellars Motor Works Whangaparaoa: Hell BM And perhaps a few more I'm forgetting... Welcome BTW and post pics of the car when you pick it up. Manual by any chance?
  6. It's a quality framing hammer, I've had it forever. I can't remember the brand and it's a bit out of reach for me now. I paid $420, I think retail is $500 but there's also a different model at around $300. The trays are good and fit in this thing well, that's a large part of the reason I got it. It's been a plan long in the making and starting to pay off. I've migrated my trays from a Teng carry case to this now. I'm also looking at their EVA (high density foam) trays for my 1/4 and 1/2 drive needs.
  7. I use a sledgehammer when it comes to the car...
  8. I've been wanting a proper tool chest for some time and finally took the plunge. I got a Teng top box because I knew it would accommodate the existing Teng tool trays I had, it has the features I wanted and I don't think it looks half bad. Need more tools now. Can you all see these pics? New web host for me (f&#k you Dropbox and Photobucket).
  9. That is a sweet looking hose, Simple but nicely executed. Custom hoses rock.
  10. I'll contribute what I can as long and the admins are okay with it. Back in the day some forums had issues with discussing specific software, not so much now it seems.
  11. Good to know. I'll edit my earlier posts so there's no (additional!) confusion.
  12. I think that's correct although I'm not the authority on what ADS and ODB can and can't do post ~2001, especially when it comes to writing to modules.
  13. Yep, that's the one, the "Pac Man" connector.
  14. Something similar, yes. I've had a conversation with them (they're real racers) and yes, they'll do any E36/M3 kit in pretty much any size I wish... Pricing might be a bit out of date, this was from a little while ago...
  15. ADS is the communications protocol, not the software. ADS is BMW's protocol and pre-dates OBD. Take a 1994 E36 for example - no comms available via OBD, all comms via ADS 1997 E36 - some comms read only via OBD, all read/write via ADS Pre 1998 (build) E39 - ADS Post 1998 E39 - does not support even support ADS apparently I think post 2001 everything (read/write) can be done via OBD but I stand to be corrected on that. The point being, if you have a 90's BMW you more likely than not need ADS for full compatibility. You can do basic stuff on later 90's cars with OBD but not everything.
  16. ADS ADS Doesn't work. This has all be tried, tested and tried again by many people in many places. Trust me, there's one way only to get ADS working with a normal laptop.
  17. No worries mate... my laptop is not that old either actually and doesn't have a serial port but I have a docking station for it that does have a serial port and that works fine. Of course the laptop needs to be docked but that doesn't concern me because I built a garage trolley for the whole setup. So, check your docking station options also... might just be an option for you. Good luck - it's a real PITA to get set up but has proven invaluable for me.
  18. E39's (edit: pre ~1998) will require ADS @Young Thrash Driver so start perhaps your research there. Look up "TinyADS" on eBay. Then INPA and DIS - the drivers work on 32bit Windows only. @Olaf - What @Gabe79 said. He bet me to it. I'd try and grab his VM's if you can, would reduce the frustration manyfold!
  19. All of the tools can run in a VM, indeed DIS comes pre-packaged in a VM. However I bet running them on iOS OSX will be problematic. They all run on Windows 10 (32bit) just fine so you don't need an outdated OS. The cable is NOT a red hearing if you need to use BMW's proprietary ADS interface to read every modules and as well as writing to them. Later cars don't have this requirement.
  20. I don't have a BBK but am thinking of getting a set of MRP NZ Wilwood fronts, if others were interested I believe a discount might be available.
  21. Maybe you guys didn't see the link? http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/50390-quality-tools-and-kits/ @NakiTouring @Kepes @EURO V12 @Olaf
  22. Bump... Post Tool Pr0n here...
  23. No, we need a tool pr0n thread as well, don't want people confused about what they can borrow... I'll have a search and see if I can surface something else wise I'll create a new one and post the link... unless somebody beats me to it, no drama either way. Edit: this one will probably do? http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/50390-quality-tools-and-kits/
  24. Remember me works for me but only for 2 (?) devices... once I use the third (I think) the oldest one is forgotten. That's annoying. I agree on HTTPS, should be the default for any web site.
  25. Kayne Barrie, look no further. 027 497 5330
