You could just buy a new sensor and install it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E38-E39-SEAT-AIR-BAG-MAT-SENSOR-528i-530-540i-M5-730-740il-750il-8367593-/171024394215 A lot of the US based forums seen to suggest that it's an easy DIY for someone who is handy with tools etc.
  2. I tend to stick to the speed limits, I don't begrudge people who travel marginally above the limit but they know the consequences of being caught. My main issue is with the "war on speed" which seems to be going on. I wish there would be such publicised and energetic campaigns by the police on burglary, public drunkenness/fighting, petty crime such as graffiti and drug crime. I think the police are just creating a simmering sense of resentment among the public with this kind of thing whilst the perception is that the streets are becoming more unsafe for joe-public. I certainly have less respect for them and their leadership with each lowering of the sensible 10km/h tolerance we currently have.
  3. Very nice, I see the hi-beams are almost blueish front on. Does this car have xenon lights?
  4. This.... I'm not looking forward to a whole summer of people riding their brakes down hills and having to do the same because the tolerance will be applied without any level of thought.

    anyone on here

We all know the speed limit and the consequences of breaking it. You live with the choices you make. I took an S Class to high speed once - the car was fine but I don't know about my ability to react at those speeds.... Given the way the media in this country operates, if the car was of any consequence they could not have resisted putting the year and the value of the vehicle in the article; to get everyone up in arms about this arrogant plutocrat thumbing his nose at society and it's laws. Because they did I assume it's an old POS poorly maintained car with bargain basement brake parts. I don't even want those things doing 100km/h on the roads near me.
  6. That's frustrating, would that amount of play not be noticed at WOF and servicing? Or is it only apparent when it gets that bad?
  7. Wow, great variety of cars - is someone going to post up a table of all the numbers? It would be interesting how well some of the older cars are still performing.
  8. There is an option to retrofit those paddles a number of people on the US and UK boards have done it. Just because it wasn't thought of on this small forum does not mean it can't be done. http://www.motivemods.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MM-PA-3 For the km's and condition I think this car is worth the money. Still much cheaper than an M5.

If it's as good as it looks then I think 14k is not that unreasonable. If the previous owner has done all the maintenance that you're going to have to do with a "bargain" E39 I'd rather pay upfront. Less hassle, less days with the car off the road, less time spend waiting for parts from overseas. That's my perspective on it anyway, I would rather 14k with everything in spec than 11-12K with another 2-3k in work to be done. One thing which would worry me, but is subjective, is that it has different tyres front and back. Still, they're both Dunlops - could be Triangle, Linglong or some equally rubbish brand.
  10. Hi Guys, I've had this happen about 2-3 times over the last 4 weeks... I've got a bit of harshness changing from 2-3rd gear (I'm assuming these cars start in 2nd in city driving? - or could be 1-2nd gear). It's very strange. There is no hanging/flaring or RPM and no interruption of power or forward momentum (like say when your gearbox is gone and it really crashes into a gear). It feels as though a small person has got into the back seat and gives it a kick or the car has gone over a manhole cover. It does not seem to have a pattern except to be when I'm accelerating away from a stop with moderate power (not engaging the kickdown but getting up to 50-60km/h somewhat quickly) sometimes I will lift my foot off the accelerator to settle around 55km/h. The history of maintenance on the gear box was that it was serviced last year with a fluid/filter replacement, driven for about 1-2000km and then had the fluid changed again to get the last of the old stuff out/diluted. It was pretty dirty and I would imagine had not be changed before. I would have to check my service history but I think it was at about 125,000km or so. The car currently has 137,000km on it. Any comments? Flex/driveshart bushes? Transmission rebuild? Clogged Filter? Low fluid? Thanks for the help.
  11. Well you can remove the graphics according to the ad, but you still have to make the drive home in it... and ditch the wheels.
  12. Looks like the address is also the head office for Prudential in KL: https://www2.prudential.com.my/corp/prudent...ices/index.html
  13. And their most obnoxious, angriest drive times are 5:45 p.m. on Friday, followed by early Monday mornings, The Daily Mail reported. I would say BMW drivers are just normal people then...
  14. I don't understand why anyone would not just get an alternative quote off their own bat to compare to their insurance company. Then at least you've got some facts rather than just complaining down the phone to them about such a rough deal. If it is within a couple of hundred dollars maybe they will come to the party, if not you can do a deal to front up with the extra $'s. I don't know about the rest of you on here but my time is better spent on other things rather than dying in a ditch about it. I'd rather pay a little extra to replace my now 12Y/O glass which has its fair share of normal wear and tear. If I had a brand new screen in there then I guess that would be a different story.
  15. Something's not right there - I was away for about a month once and the car started first pop when I got back. Something must be draining it more... Or, put in one of those battery disconnect switches.
  16. “Once this is over I am going to find out who complied the car and I am going to have their licence.†Haha, watch out for retired people - they have plenty of hours in the day to work on their revenge.
  17. Those arrows are a good idea for someone who does not know much about cars when they're buying. Pointing out the various features and extra goodies you're paying for.

Meh, if I wanted that I'd just log into Trademe. I'd rather see edited photos than same old same old of cars which are fairly common.

    Wheres Jack?

I love these types of threads, it's always the same story. Just different names.
  20. I was in the US last week and saw one of the new Telsas model S' on the road - what a car! It was in silver and looked very nice. This was up in the north of California between Sacramento and San Fran.
  21. I am in two minds about it - I have the burlwood trim in my car and there are no other chrome or metal parts in the interior. I don't want it to look too out of place. I quite like it being nice and clean.
  22. Can you post a pic of the cluster with the rings etc installed. I have a set of the brushed silver ones which I have not had the guts to try and install since I bought my car in early 2011. I need some motivation. Also keen to see how the red ties in with the trim.
  23. I like how it's LHD and driving on the RHS of the road. Nice video though, it would be nice to have had some cool overlays to tell us about some of the features which we should all be trading in our old SUV's for.
