  1. Not my field but have a read https://www.armmotorsports.com/Articles.asp?ID=255 Their is heaps of info Google and some members on here have had a play no doubt they will be only to willing to help you find all that hidden horse power.
  2. No Glenn just a light heart ed gib at Jon.If he's having trouble now what is he going to be like when he reaches the big 6 0 time to start working smarter. Knowledge is only useful when pasted on to others and as you said Glenn they have to be willing to listen.
  3. Has the bubble finally burst for you and bms
  4. Dropped off their 116i loaner because it got about 2000km past it's service indicator and swapped it with an E46 318ti hatch. Interesting ugly little thing, quite nimble and feels quicker than you'd expect, quite fun to drive actually, feels like a go-cart, more so than the regular E46 models Ugly like art only in the eyes of the beholder. If you feel the 318ti is nimble and quick you don't know what you are missing hit the go pedal when it has a b25 or b30 fitted then the fun really begins
  5. it appears that it is a device for collecting tolls on Japans roads so guess was correct. A quick google and take your pick https://www.google.co.nz/search?source=hp&q=what+is+etc+in+japanese+cars&oq=what+is+etc&gs_l=psy-ab.1.3.0l4.1707.4419.0.10503.12.11.0.0.0.0.231.2128.2-10.10.0....0...1.1.64.psy-ab..2.10.2122.0..0i131k1.dREjWcS31DQ Their might be a solution to your problem in their
  6. Way off is it a Japanese import guessing electronic toll collection or similar would require a scan and turned off or pull the fuse.
  7. The could have been swapped out as a production date of 12/2002 would have though it would be a face lift. The usual pre look,a drive,PPI cost of the repairs needed etc etc. If the front struts are due then a whole suspension rebuild is likely although didn't some tourings have self leveling rear suspension? and that could be even worse If the touring is as bad for visibility when backing as the sedan a rear camera of PDC would be a must but it is reasonable cheap.

    Style 97 or 194

Thanks Kyu. on the look out for sure have had a few replies on here and other places still looking That is one reason why i prefer the 97's as they came out on the e46 compact which I own. The 194's are more readily available for sure but designed for a different model as long as one is aware of this knows the off set and tyre sizes before purchasing this trouble can be avoided. Their are so many factors to consider when undertaking this exercise cost of the wheels, transport, refurbishing if required and it can get expensive real quick.

Thanks been playing around with something similar on another sight. Its interesting to see what happens when you start playing with tyre sizes, rim widths off sets etc.
  12. Their you go sounds like a plan may be being a bit forward Treone but buy that man a beer
  13. An old saying something about fools and money being separated. No offense intended
  14. The key issue has been discussed before and their are a number of out lets for them. top end key cutting places, e-bay, dealerships and no doubt others As for the lock barrel it's self that could require a strip down and check to see what part has failed and maybe just a change of the pins to get it up and running. The problem comes with the electronics and the frequency.used, transponder chips then getting them to work properly. As real pain to have this happen and find that the lock will fail when used with a key to often a real let down. From my own experience I purchased two blank diamond shaped keys having the three buttons from ebay around $100 for the two.Had them cut $48 each from memory. Then a member programmed the transponder chip and synced the remote access part. Sure some one will be able to help with the electronic side you just need to get hold of some new keys best of luck.
  15. Personnel first thought on opening trademe link holy ,.//!@# dreamer must say I know nothing about e24's. Even reading the write up it became more alarming when the rust word was mentioned what other nasty surprises could their be. It depends on what rocks your boat some will see it as a challenge others a disaster waiting to happen.A whole look of research, inspecting and hard bargaining if it got to that stage would be required.Out of interest a bit of info vin WBA 5332000 5550365, 635csi, NZ new first rego 3 Feb 1987, production date 1 December 1979, not sure what happened to the missing years. Sure their are better options out their as Brent mentioned best of luck.
  16. Seems in my haste i have stuffed this up so starting from scratch first preference is a set of style 97's,bottom photo if not available would consider style 194. Some of the replies thanks have been for the 194's looking these over these now. Not much difference between them I know just the 97's are my preferred choice.
  17. The black one has sold for $8,749.00 Going to catch some flak for this put my opinion the blue does make a nice change I'll give it that for the rest. It's 15 years old, NZ rego 12 feb 2002 assembled December 2001,sold twice by the same firm good on them ( more info why ) . Asking $15,000 on the steep side, fuel economy what economy,141,000 k's and it has had major engine work ,suspension work.Which appears to have been under warranty ( doesn't say BMW or other warranties ) but not a good look for reliability.and what ever else required attention plus it's routine servicing. With all that work done it should be good to go for another 10,0000k arh wait it's a BMW and an X5

Have a play on here http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp using the 275 50 18 with an off set of 40 compared to a 255 it says you will have more clearance but your speedo will read slower. Any how have a play and see what you come up with.

Ok can see the reasoning behind that approach. Would the tyre rating play a part i.e 91, 94 in how much roll one got from the tyre as a 45 profile is pretty low..
  25. Note the seats are manual adjustment not electric.
