  1. Don't know the car but looks pretty tidy on the face of it - and cheap for a manual. Best to check out usual faults such as cracks in subframe, rattly cold idle (replaced vanos or not), general wear & tear. Says it's serviced by Jerry Clayton - check how regular. 160kms is getting up there, but there's another member on the forum here with one on similar k's - they're definitely around..!
  2. ^^ Don't forget the e34 .... BMW fanboy from ages ago... Bloody good output there mate, you'd be stoked!

Nice. Have a look on youtube re: cleaning leather. There's a yank chap based in Japan who posted a vid cleaning lexus leather seats with some impressive results. I've also had good results with Lux soap flakes, and patience.

Surely you're joking... are you expecting the Police to catch a bus to assist you when you need them?
  5. ^^ watch Nerd Cubed's rant on this... it's quite entertaining. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61une0e-hq4&feature=c4-overview&list=UUKab3hYnOoTZZbEUQBMx-ww
  6. I like exposed rivets, but it makes it look a bit like an ae86...
  7. Not really answering your question mate, but I've spent a bit of time in a chipped Skoda Fabia VRs. Same 1.4TDI engine as in the rest of the VW group, it's a bloody good performer. Cheap to run, and it's been reliable for 140,000kms so far. I like it so much that I'm keen on getting one myself when the Corolla finally dies (circa year 2034). My family have owned a number of Peugeots - and currently have a 308 TDI. They don't have any complaints about the 308, and do like the engine, however they had a fair amount of trouble with pre-2007 models. 2006 3l (petrol) 406 had heaps of squeaks & loose interior parts bought new from the factory (shoddy build quality), 106 had an intermittent stall issue on idle that was never fixed. The 405 dad owned for a bit was a good car. These three are all petrol, mind. I was a bit wary with the Skoda brand a few years ago, however they really are VW build quality.

    Hellbm S54 M Coupe

I had a look for z3m mats earlier tonight - look how bloody expensive they are for aftermarket ones in RHD ...!!
  9. Good news, I had the same experience when installing a K&N intake onto my m3.. maybe the amplified noise made it more evident, but the car certainly seems to rev more freely. I'm going on 3 months and 800kms on the oiled K&N with no MAF issues. This has included one clean & re-oil after a very dusty road.

Stunning, Ray. Awesome to have a nose at this in the weekend. Bloody rare as an original S54!
  11. Hi all, I have an OEM BMW "Tray for Glasses" for sale for the E46 chassis (including M3). This will not fit models with a centre-console television. Part #51 16 8 260 312. The part is brand new, never fitted, and only removed from plastic for photos below. Replacement price is still more expensive than I'm asking - much more if you include shipping. $100 $75 Christian - 021 832 609 http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=760636967 Stock photo of fitment: Actual part:

  15. Interesting on the intake - unfortunately I didn't dyno mine prior to installing the K&N so I can't really tell if there's any power difference. If there is, it certainly isn't very noticeable to my untrained butt dyno - if anything it seems to rev a bit free'er, however this may be a placebo from all that delicious intake noise. Google 'clutch stop e46 m3' - it's a well known mod. It reduces the typically large gap from the floor to the bite point. For mine, the clutch now bites almost immediately upon lifting my left foot, rather than playing a guessing game where the bite point is. Oftentimes the standard ones are broken as well (being light plastic) - mine was ok but I read of a fair amount that had split offshore. Let's avoid the SMG vs. manual debate if we can. Last time it went on for 3 pages.
  16. Hi mate, you've done much more research than me on this - so I can't comment! Definitely go with the parts the free up the most power first imo... besides a few horses here or there, the backbox choice between the two is all about noise preference. I am very happy with Supersprint, but haven't run the el Diablo so can't really compare in-cabin. I haven't seen too many of either kit in the flesh to be honest - your trip o/s will certainly give you all the options!
  17. Welcome, and congrats on your purchase, it looks to be an awesome machine! There's a wealth of knowledge & experience on the M3 here, which you'll no doubt pick up by searching on the forum and talking to members. I recently spent a fair amount of time looking at good 'streetable' tyres, and decided on the Nitto Invo's. Very pleased so far, a ton of grip, quiet & imo definitely one to consider. Also I'm keen to hear why you un-installed the K&N intake? I actually went the other way (stock to K&N) - and most certainly haven't considered going back! Have you replaced the standard clutch stop yet...? Makes a world of difference...
  18. Beautiful!! Dream car right here.. great purchase!

    M TOY M3

Hi mate, I'm going through BMW but Turner and a few others do them too. Part #51168260312: http://www.bavauto.com/se1.asp?dept_id=324 or ebay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BMW-E46-NEW-Glasses-Storage-Tray-Center-Console-Dash-Holder-323-325-330-M3-312-/190598413209 In fact after a little more investigation, you may be in luck .. doesn't look like they fit M3's with the tv screen.... I thought because mine didn't have Navigation I'd be ok here.... Hmm. You buy?

    M TOY M3

Work in progress mate. I have now sorted the handbrake handle so it aligns the same as stock - stoked! For such a small change, it was a bloody frustrating job. Expensive, too - as it turns out you can't buy the alcantara handle separate from the entire assembly, and they only come in LHD (so 90% is wasted for this part). On that note... if someone (for some reason) needs a LHD handbrake assembly for an e46 m3, let me know...! Next on the cards, a replacement OEM sunglasses holder for the ashtray & blank. Like with the cupholders and oddments tray, these handy parts either weren't available (or simply not chosen) on the NZ-new M3's - at least the one's I've seen. I'll keep the other interchangeable options as well. I'm also still waiting on the car cover from some cowboys on eBay, supposedly in Germany. Pretty sure I am getting scammed here, two incorrect tracking numbers, no package 4 weeks later... I've raised a case a couple of weeks ago, to no avail yet. Let's see what happens - I'm still holding a thin hope it's been sent. Also, a new idea on a theme for the rally: Except given we're starting in Hamilton, it'd probably be more proper calling it the 'bling' taxi. Still open to suggestions here, I have another month or so before I need to start thinking about ordering decals or parts.

    M TOY M3

Hi everyone, Time for another update, as a few more parts have arrived from BMW, and I've been busy installing them. The cupholders & oddments tray replace the centre console storage area, handy if you want to conceal some coins or carry the odd drink in your car. This shot also shows the standard leather handbrake. The alcantara handbrake turned up, with the whole bloody assembly. Turns out this too is made for a LHD car (like my alcantara gear surround), and as such doesn't bolt on to the RHD car. Mmm. Alcantara. I thought I'd ordered an alcantara handbrake boot too, but it turns out the one I ordered is a direct replacement for my current one. It's new though, so I'm not too fussed. I removed the leather handle and lay them side by side for comparison. Removing the new handle proved... challenging. I've managed to rip my hands to shreds (through gloves) trying to remove the bloody thing. I recommend using all of the following tools, in a soundproof room. Once done (and you're back from the medical cupboard), attach the inside of the handbrake boot to the handle - this part is important so there is overlap. You'll need a thin (medium) cable tie - if you notice, BMW do this from the factory, so it's not really a rangi mod. Putting the handbrake handle back on with blistered up hands is pretty fun, this is as far as I could get it on tonight. I still have 10mm or so to move it into place properly, but it's on. I'm going to call victory on this one. Some generic shots I took of the new front lip & rims the other day before the rain, for a little variety. Next on the list is an OEM sunglasses holder to replace the front ashtray. The 2014 Gumboot Rally is also coming up - so I need to start thinking of a new theme. The Luftwaffe livery was pretty cool, but I'd like to go for something a little more stand-out next year. I was considering a 'Death Race' theme with a whole lot of vinyl & louvers, but scrapped it because it'd probably be irreversible (and frankly dangerous given I'd want to somehow attach machine guns on the front & a tombstone on the rear). The other option I thought of was to replicate a GT car. For this, I'd need a spare bootlid to bolt a wing onto & a splitter extension at the front, a couple of those nasty red towhook things, yellow film for the headlights & a whole lot of decals - this one would be a fair bit more straightforward. Open to suggestions here??
