This sounds like a cost effective option : http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E39-M5-S62_5.0L/Engine/Mechanical/ES2225985/

Stock rear exhaust system is now in place. What a difference these things make to the sound. No more 60's muscle car racket. The car is maybe 5% louder than stock. New heat shields ex Germany going in place : Left side muffler fitted : Both mufflers fitted ready for welding in place : The centre section had a small leak from the clamping bush, so these were also replaced : Mufflers fitted : Another angle : Also started carrying out some maintenance work, replaced both oil separators and the lower drain hose on bank 2. It took over an hour just to get the crimped hose clamp off using a screwdriver. the hose was basically glued on so I had to cut it off using a hobby knife. I used a worm-type hose clamp to replace the crimped hose clamp, that took another hour of fiddling to get it to seal on the oil drain tube (black pipe in the pic). Bank 1 is going to be even worse as there is a vacum hose in the way, will save that for another day.

Jooles and I went to look at that Silverstone blue M5 earlier this year. Indeed had a very concerning knocking sound from the sump area. Has the mechanic removed the upper and lower oilpans to confirm spun bearing(s) ? usually when they start to knock the damage is already done and will have more than likely damaged the very expensive crankshaft. The longer it's driven the more that spun bearing(s) eat away at the perfectly machined bearing journal finish on the crank. You're probably going to want to look at sourcing a motor o'seas...... Good luck!!

Stock rear mufflers going in today. Also some maintenance work to be carried out this weekend : The lower oil separator hoses look like fun to replace... I suspect some cursing at crimp-type hose clamps nested down in a tight space will be the order of the day.

I picked up one of these. Have had it for just under a year now and it's holding up well. Doesn't break a sweat lifting up the heavy M5. http://www.thetoolshed.co.nz/Products/Workshop/Lifting-Hydraulic/ToolShed-Trolley-Jack-3-5Ton

Have you got the part # handy on the DME unit?
-
No Sorry, just 4 x 2.25" press-bent mild pipes connected to 4 x 2.5" stainless steel long tips.
-
Not quite.
-
Straight pipe.
-
Will have some available soon, pretty sure they are 2.5" in dia. But will double check tonight. As per pics, will also come with some mild steel piping that has been press-bent. Will take more pics when they come off the car. Asking $50.
-
Not the same unfortunately.
-
Can you give me the part numbers? I have a set of intake and exhaust cam sensors out of an e39 m5 that might be the same. They did not produce any error codes when they were installed so should help if they're the same.

Definitely sienna red. Turns to a copper colour under direct light.

Be interested to see how snappy your install of dis is. Running mine on an old stinkpad... core2 with 4g of ram. Admitantly I didn't try win7 32 but I did try it with win7 x64 with a fresh build using easydis. I lost patience and went with xp and the dis v44 image. If it's significantly quicker on win7 I will look in to rebuilding as xp fux me off...

There is some misleading info on that bimmerfest link in regards to getting INPA and DIS setup. I spent a lot of hours using that as a guide and only got as far as getting INPA to run. I could never quite get the API test in DIS to pass. DIS v44 imo works best in conjunction with an early version of VMware (6.0) on an xp machine. Instead of building a VM and installing/configuring DIS to run I found an image which is pre-configured and just worked off the bat - No emulator needed to represent the yellow head (diaghead) adapter. Happy to assist anyone who is wanting to setup INPA and DIS v.44 on an xp machine. I looked at using DIS v57 but v44 was better suited to my car for Vanos diagnostics.

Still waiting on a brand-new set of rear heat shields to arrive before the stock rear mufflers go back in. Once the mufflers go in, the car will be laid up for a few weeks to undergo a bit of maintenance. I removed the cover of the plenum and found a little more oil in the plenum than I'm used to. I removed the runner from cylinder # 5 and opened the throttle plate : As you can see it's quite oily in and around the throttle body so I while the plenum is off I'll do the following service : - replace oil separators along with ALL related hoses (The separators were cleaned last year and the large hoses were replaced) - Check all vacum hoses, replace any that are damaged. - Remove and send fuel injectors away for full servicing. - Clean the ICV - Remove all the oil build up from the throttle bodies, and fuel injector ports - When re-assembled run 2 cans of Subaru upper injector cleaner through the engine to clean carbon buildup from the exhaust valves - Reset adaption values
