  1. Customs do have a fee that you pay if they think you should pay gst. Whatsmyduty.org will give you an estimate.
  2. The mental anguish this modification would potentialy cause is just not worth it imo. I'll hunt around for a set of genuine xenon units.

  5. The way I interpret nzta's wording is that if u install an hid kit (bulbs, ballasts, igniter) in to an hid projector (which the evox-r is) then my modification is legal.. Anyway, antileet is correct. Got an email back from the site linked in my first post that they are lhd only. The alternatives ate not a direct replacement and need mods, which im not to keen on doing with only 1 pair of lights. Ah well, I'll leave it at that.
  6. It's on the agenda, along with the saggy rear diffuser and new exhaust tips. ....Need at least 40 hours removing all that sika flex for the front grilles though ;-)
  7. Yup it does. The current headlamps, although H7 halogen are definitely auto-leveling. So the only piece to the xenon puzzle is the missing Xenon projectors within the headlamps.

  9. Check with gadgets4u that they have the updated cable for the latest iphones, as I too am using an older ipod touch 4. I scored mine of a forum member for $200 late last year brand-new.

From the nzta site : HID conversion kits (an HID bulb with a high voltage power unit or ballast which fits into the original headlamp unit in place of the original bulb with no change to the headlamp lens, reflector or housing) are illegal on any vehicle being used on New Zealand roads. However, a complete halogen headlamp unit can be replaced with a complete HID headlamp unit provided that the replacement headlamp unit complies with approved standards. If in doubt, get advice from a vehicle lighting retailer you trust. The evox-r projectors are for hid so based on the above it'd be legal. The projectors are apparently a direct fit to the replacement halogen projectors. My car had pre fl xenon lights but the po replaced them with fl halogen using a cheap sh1t hid kit. So I have all the wiring and modules already fitted. The hardest thing to get right imo is the aim of the new hid projector relative to the hi beam, this can only be done with lights disassembled. The prohector units are 150usd a decent hid kit is 160usd. Still cheaper than genuine hella xenons....2.2k ea direct from hella nz, or around 900 second hand of ebay.

  14. imo both will leave you wishing that you got the M version. Unless you've got cash to improve on them.

  16. I've seen that all E39's have the 2 tweeter grilles in the front doors, and the 1 tweeter grill in the rear doors, but may not actually have tweeters in them. Do you have a DSP unit? (check on the on board monitor for the dsp setting) if you do, wiring in an extra amp is a pita. If not, then it's just a matter of finding a suitable input for the amp to run off (u need to use a low level line converter, available from jay car) From memory UI think I tapped in to the left rear speaker output from the factory amp. Good thing is that the batt is in the boot, so you don't need to run power and ground cables through out the car. There are amp pin out diagrams on the net, but need to identify which one you have first.
  17. Try prying down on the lower control arm with a crow bar while someone else wiggles the lower shock mount in place. From memory you need to disconnect the rear sway bar to allow each lower control arm to swing down further.
  18. Sounds like it will need trans surgery/rebuild/replace or it could just need the valve body serviced. My guess is that they've been told what needs doing...
  19. Easy enough to wire in an amp and sub to fill the lack of low end. Gets a bit rattly in the boot though. I had the 10 speaker option in my 540i and once I installed the sub I was happy with it. The factory e39 stereo is not that bad unless you like high volume, where it gets a bit harsh sounding.

  22. Alclad chrome paint would do the trick, although not sure what it's heat tolerence is...
