Yeah will be getting some Euro plates asap. Hate the EGG plate. lol. Plus there is a few scratches where the longer Euro plate has once been. I really like the contrasting Interior/Exterior colors.

Cheers. Yeah it is the one Dave. Still love your 5 series though. Spotted you a mile off and knew it could only be one of yours. I am going to tidy her up even more. I want it 100% perfect. Everything must work as it did when it left the factory. Wheels need a bit of a tidy up. And yes a good clean. Bloody road works just by my house that I can not avoid at the moment. As for towing. Would it be a good idea to get an aftermarket cooler for the trans? Or is the stock one fine for lugging around a 1200kg E30? And this "Life Time" fluid. How often should I change it? As I know towing puts some good stress on the box.

BTW. Stay away from this one. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-205975065.htm It is poked. Has a huge misfire problem. And has a gearbox like I described above.

This car has a massive misfire problem. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-205975065.htm Mine has not done it since I owned it. So as I said. Was more likely to be poor gas or when they ran it dry. It is a singapoked 540i. But she has been very well looked after and serviced. Full singapore history etc. Limited NZ history. Which is typical. Kiwi's never service their cars till something goes wrong.
-
Just purchased one the other day. I would stay away from singapore ones also. Unless you find a low milage well looked after one like mine. Only problem I have with mine is the heater control valve. The Jap ones I drove were rubbish and had only done a few more Kms than the one I purchased. They both stunk of smoke too. And both had clunky "I sat in Tokyo traffic my whole life" gearboxes. Nearly all the NZ new ones have done a huge amount of KM's. As long as they have been serviced all their life then there is no issues there. But yeah make sure you get the car to a specialist. So far I am loving my one.

Well I was in need of a tow car for hauling the series car around. And can't keep using the E55. So I decided to buy a 540 to replace my 180 and 325 which I have sold. Went and drove a few of them. First one I jumped into was a 00 540M that was out of my price range. But we thought we would take it for a drive to get a feel. What a pile of sh*t it was. Massive misfire which wouldn't let us rev it out. Nearly everything was worn out. And the gearbox clunked away. So not a good start. Second one was a 97 that had a facelift front. Was very low though. Looked great but would not suite being a tow car. Found this one to be very bouncy. And it had steering issues as well as a clunky gearbox. 3rd one we drove was the one I purchased. A black 1997 540i. Had only done 86,000kms. And drove like it had only done 86.000 kms. Smooth all round. Only let down is that she is from Singapore. Which straight away put me off a little. Took a mate of mine who has an extremely expensive scanner around to see the car. And after checking nearly everything (nearly ) we found she had no major faults. Reserve was set low so I decided to bid. And just as I was about to steal it. Some prick tried to outbid me in the last 50 seconds. Bumping it right up to my maximum price. Changing it from a great deal to an ok deal. But anyway here she is. 1997 540i Black with Tan interior 18" what looks to be replica E60 M5 wheels (must be as the M5 wheels are 19's, these are 18's) Face and ass lift. Someone has spent some money converting it to the Halo and LED lights and newer bumpers. No doubt an insurance company. All in all she is in pretty good nick bar the heater problem I am having. Smooth and quiet with a sweet stereo system. I think I am showing my age. 3 years ago you could not wrestle me away from my noisy tuned 180SX. Now I am happy with this and the race car.

Cheers guys. Left the car in town today. Will get her scanned tomorrow at some stage. I did scan the car before purchasing. But the only thing that came up was that the battery had recently been flat and that at some stage it has had a misfire which was no doubt due to poor gas or when the owner ran it out of gas recently. Think I must have missed it.

Never checked this when I was checking out my new E39 540 to buy. Aircon works mint. Can change where the air blows fine. And also change the fan speed fine. But changing the temp only goes from Aircon cool to blowing room temperature air. Even on full hot. And another problem they may or may not be related. If I press the Auto buton the little light comes on but I am pretty sure it does nothing. e.g. I can change the temp to 16deg yet it still blows air at the same rate as if it was set on 25deg. Car has done 86,000kms. Is a 1997 540i.

This car is now sold. Thanks.

They are not genuine parts only. But can't remember the place I was told to get them. I will ask my friend tomorrow where he told me to get them. I have to replace them on my brothers E38 and my E39.

Nice got a few good ones up there. Haha check this one out. http://cars.desktopnexus.com/wallpaper/38984/

Ah I see. Does the 97 model have these cats? Or are they further down? If so could you not run exhaust system off one of these cars?
-
I am interested to see the results. And why could it not go on your E39 aliluya?
-
18's on an E30. Yuck. Would look like a Rollerskate.
-
All ready am. lol. But you dont pick up chicks by telling them your on the dole unless you are picking them up at the Panmure Tavern. Not good times to find any job at the moment. Let alone your dream job.
-
Yeah I think I would be happy with those Jobs too.

Quite an old thread dude. Best to send the owner a PM to see if he can help you.

I think I will install it tonight. Mate from Datacom has a copy that I will borrow. Think I will just write over the XP boot on my machine. I dont use XP anymore at all. Running cooler will be interesting. I run a clocked E7200 at 3.2ghz. Currently Idles at 36deg on both cores. Never goes over about 50deg under load. If it drops in temp I will kick the chip up to 3.5. Might need new ram for that. Sorry bit geeky.
-
If the car was in the North Island I would still have gone to see it. But that is a massive distance to go for a car that has had issues at one time or another.
-
After one in black. But any color will do. Just need the bumper cover. Everything else is fine. Cheers Dan
-
Yeah wonder if it is sold already. Or maybe he spotted this not so nice thread.
-
Heard good things about it too. Apprently the beta already out performs Vista and XP. So that is good news. Might install it on a test platform. Can you run the beta under a dual boot setup? Am already running XP and Vista dual boot.

Not being driven hard enough.
