The nut may have come loose on the motor shaft, not sure how to get to it in one of those, but it holds the small arm on that connects to the linkage. If you can see it, turn the wipers on and see if the shaft is turning.

I went for an E61 to replace my e39 touring, heaps of space, beautiful cruising car, mine is 07 Lci and the idrive is showing its age now, cant get up to date nav DVDs etc, engine wise I believe the diesels are probably the most sensible choice in these, which is why I got the M5!

3335 hp. Nice.

2014 with 12 bars, should be about 17-18K when it gets here. Should save me at least $80 a week in gas money.

No, you cannot re-use head gaskets, you should be able to just put a new gasket and new bolts in and re-torque everything if the head turns out to be ok, you don't usually need to allow a thicker gasket for skimming the head but whoever checks it for you should be able to give you more info. You weren't tempted to do the other one while you are in there as preventative maintenance?

Mine were only just hanging on at 280 k, did them while engine was out to do oil seperator. Does depend a bit on how car is used and looked after.

Yeah, also about one third of what I spent on mine! Also, i use mine on the car every time i wash it, hasn't hurt it yet, just need a bit of common sense.

Pressure AND flow rate are important, my home made petrol one is 3000 psi, 11 L/M and it does the job. Beware of cheapy ones that sacrifice flow rate for pressure, it will take forever to get anything clean! Also pay attention to the gun, if its too short you will end up crippled. Have fun

People who have decided to settle for the straight six always drag out the old steering comparison!! It's not enough of a difference to ruin the V8 ownership experience, the noise and the torque more than make up for it, the fuel bills however......

All e39 tourings have self levelling rear suspension, still has shock absorbers though.

Time to sell my daily driver, NZ new 1994 e36 318is, factory manual, 292000 kms, paintwork is rough to average, mechanically sound, new bilsteins shocks and top mounts all round earlier this year, schnitzer 16" alloys, m3 X brace, reconditioned purple tag steering rack, 2.25 inch exhaust and custom headers, illuminated M gearknob, M steering wheel, motorsport manual seats, leather doorcards, good headliner, Hella led daytime running lights, lowered, Msport front swaybar with new mounts and links, K & N filter, also a heap of parts. Modified centre console with fire extinguisher, also a standard replacement console, DTM style mirrors, wired usb power sockets, Sony bluetooth headunit with kicker 10" sub and amp in boot. Motorsport bumpers, front one is still silver. Has a few minor issues, but is a fairly reliable economical runabout. Still using so mileage will increase. $3000

Soda blasting uses baking soda, Pak n save is probably the cheapest place to get it!
-
I use a bench grinder with a wire brush wheel, takes everything off and you get pretty quick at it after a few, just dont let go!

Im trying to remember from when I did the clutch in my 540, im pretty sure the 420g is a bit smaller than the auto bellhousing, have you managed to source a box yet? It might help to have it for getting the motor placement correct.
-
Im using a cheapish omni clear from car colours, have also used autothane 2k and had decent results with both.

Bring your welder and hemet over when you pick up your next lot of powdercoating if you want, I can give you some pointers. Dont do the engine mounts yourself, I think you will find the cert stipulates who can weld those.
