tibbs.james replied to Driftit's topic in General Discussion
1995 Mazda capella 1800cc auto, 1- had the slowest steering in the world and it felt like it was going to tip over at any sign of a corner let alone the rubbish auto transmission and terr bible handling 2- 1985 Toyota corona FWD pos always had something wrong with it 3- Rover Tom Cat there is one in my driveway and its just horrendous -
I have to say they did a pretty good job building a custom bellhosuing from scratch Not a very easy job to do at all One sentance can describe this car ...Yeah.............Nah...........

Yeah I got 6 good injectors in there now but I still have some sort of gremlin in there I have suspisions that i need to measure each installed hight for the valve spring and compare the results incase i need to shim up a particualr valve a tiny bit more to make it seal correctly. ie if one measurement differs a bit I will stick another tiny shim in there to correct this from where the valves have recessed into the head a little bit more from the 3 angle valve grind. I have built a tool to compress the valve springs with the Heads on the car while a bit of compressed air is pumped into the cylinder to allow me to measure springs and shim heights and hopefully remedy the problem. So with a hiss and a Roar I hope to be some what road legal in the next couple of months

You will find you can carefully hacksaw a bit off one end so you can press it out with a gear puller or threaded pipe and some washers I managed to do mine with a 2 jaw Gear Puller Subframe bushings are a diffierent story BTW a Hand Held Mapp Gas Torch Will do the trick but it still takes a fair while to burn through the rubber. you have a few options go talk to some guys and offer them some beers if they can do it for you as a foreinger Job Good Luck Hope this helps

Only one in the world like it ?

I opened up some ports on a nissan v6 a tiny bit but its easy to get carried away unless you are under instruction from an engine builder as I was

Set of spacers =$400 LVVTA certification fot legalness =$300 so thats $700 + wheels $700 is a lot to be put toward proper fitting wheels I have nothing against spacers Infact I need them for my Nissan due to the severe lack of low offset wheels but just keep in mind that they are not legal without a cert and if you crash when they are fitted illeagily this could void your insurance but otherwise $400 seems a pretty good deal

This is also my expierance with Smith & Smith My old mans 80 series cruiser had heaps of chips and was sent in for a new screen, they fitted a new windscreen ( 80 series toyota cruiser don't use glue ) and as the screen was a non branded sh*t chinease one it was tinner and you could see the screen almost falling out when the air pressure changed. this was sent back to be sorted out and the windscreen was then fitted with glue when it should have been replaced according to toyota specificatons ( again thinner non branded windscreen ) this seemed to work ok apart from the fact they got glue all on the front right gaurd and didn't clean it up. The cellphone car kit aerial was also stuck on poorly and flew off down the road meaning a replacement was required. I had a good experence with S&S a few years ago removing and re fitting the same windscreen to a toyota corona but I will most definitly not be taking my hilux into these experts after the shocking poor service recieved. I will add that the workers themselves probally tried their best but in this case the whole system really fell over and every aspect of this particuar job was a severe stuff up risking the saftery of occupants of the landcruiser.

Why you should account for every dropped nut
tibbs.james replied to 2002's topic in General Discussion
I love my telescoptic magnet for this reason It has rescued a bolt from down a spark plug hole in a mates car ( thankfully we knew about it ) Dad as a story about my sister dropping a bolt down the guts of a Rover v8 when she was 3- he had to pull apart quite a lot to get to it. Good luck reparing the damage, but my question is .. If material was removed how much will this change the compression ratio ? While the head is off would it not be a good idea to have it re surfaced anyway, forged pistons suggest a serious engine where the effort might count for something .. -

In between a funny shaped 4 cylinder hiding inside a v6 underneath a bent bonnet I have more good news!!!!!! well no actually I don't 2 injectors I just switched were found to be leaking from the bodies and my last 2 spares are now fitted to the car. However this did not fix anything > still just a funny shaped 4 cylinder, I know i have fuel & spark this leaves one dreaded problem Bad compression on a brand new motor = scary stuff with the possibility of a complete tear down necessary if the compression test comes up bad. this also means I need to get a new set of quality injectors, from 12 injectors 6 have come up bad this does not look good for the remaining 6 units. But My lovely girlfriend has been such a champ buying me some big Grunty brake rotors ( 280x32 ) and expensive brake pads for my Christmas present Bring on the 4 pot upgrade !!! wish me luck on that compression test I will really be sad if I find a cylinder well down to the others considering it was only the lightest of a hone for new rings

the 300zx is not a happy camper at the moment. Missing on the rear 2 cylinders on the Left Bank, Good Spark, Good compression, injectors are working properly I have been through the diagnostic section of the Factory Service Manual checked every dam thing in sight and run ecu codes. as far as ECU codes I get Neutral Switch and Air Conditioner > these shouldn't matter ALL the plug leads read under 10K ohms Factory Service Manual specs 30k ohm as a maximum, new plugs & have tried multiple gaps and gone back to factory gap as per Factory Service Manual as none of this is making any difference. I know I need a new thermostat as is not opening fully but this isn't causing the missing/dropping a cylinder and general running like Arse

Aftermarket fuel pressure regulators
tibbs.james replied to Slavvy's topic in Forced Induction & Performance Tuning
Not that i really know anything or have much experience But in the 300zx turbo scene that I am a part of it seems that an aftermarket fuel Reg Is often used with an aftermarket pump & injectors along with an ECU setup to control it all. On the Early style 300zx turbos like the one I own, people often install an aftermarket Fuel Press Regulator along with a high flow in tank pump to get the most out of their stock injectors and turbo. I'e to raise the base fuel pressure when so that when injectors are getting maxed out they can extract a bit more flow out of the injectors. I am not saying this is a good or bad thing only that it is an example I personally know of and for right or wrong it seems to work for the person. -
Hmm Perhaps the factory wheels will get some semi slicks in 50 profiles and I will get some 16x9's for it
-
Clean threads + Loctite + correct torque setting = no problemss that's not experience but it seems a practical way of not having any issues
-
Yo Nathan Sounds like you need a Mig welder and a spot tip, and maybe do some of the easy bits yourself to minimize the time at panel beaters. I think I'm going to have a stab at some of my own panel work ( the simple bits not the complicated bits )

Hi All I need help choosing decent tyres for my Project Car But the problem is I can't seem to find a performance tyre in this size 215/65/15Â after a search around all i can come up with is passenger car / van / commercial tyres and nothing to suit a decently powered 3.0 Turbo with modified engine/suspension and brakes this is the OEM size for a 15x6.5 rim on this car, anything lower profile than a 60 would look totally ridiculous with wheel gap ( already has tons of that ) I just want a decent safe tyre that grips ok ..... or....... if you can find me a road legal semi slick in a similar size i would consider this as a solution to not needing 2 sets of wheels. ( car is for sunday driving & track days . and yes i have had semis on the road car before and understand the diffierences to a road tyre ) help much appreciated. Edit: *in NZ tire means wearing out, tyres mean car shoes

Don't your worry Henry I am doing my best to make it run good then we can give it some running in treatment once the valve springs are changed over.

Oh jeez So it seems everybody is having a bum run at the moment with cars heading up to Christmas

haha this thread is actually starting to crack me up and make me feel happier about it so thanks Bimmersport excess is $900 so its probably not worth ruining my no claims when I have only had insurance for a grand total of 4 days i have a lead on a brand new bonnet from a Z specialist in Auckland, it could be about $500-$800 in which case I might go for it. if this doe not work out I will be visiting the panel beaters in the new year. A guy from my work has made carbon fiber and fiberglass kayaks recently I will be enlisting him to make a mold for me if I wish to have a bonnet reproduced. Or I may infact just simply use the copy and leave the original hanging on the wall Thanks for the cheer up guys I am feeling much better about it and now able to laugh it off a little bit

As it happens Nissan Do have them available $1395 + GST this doesn't really make me feel much better .....

oh yeah windscreen is sweet as, there is one tiny mark on the roof which will probably cut n polish out, Pretty much can't get much for these cars, which is exactly why i made sure my insurance covered me on the way to a WOF I imagine I will get a classic car restoration type place to deal to the bonnet It will probably be quite expensive though it sure as hell wont be getting any bog near it
