Nice. I went and saw this and offered $5500 due to the imperfections with the bumper and a few panels and also because i didnt need it badly. Didnt end up buying it obviously but the engine sounded sweet and also had a sunroof which was nice. Good buy for sure at 6k it had good service history. Only one big thing was the main seal slowly leaking which will need attention at some stage not urgent and also needed spark plugs i think.

Having owned both carbon and cosmos black e46s, carbon is the nicer color but i prefer the cosmos

Tempting.. but priced a bit high imo. For me anyway

Wheels were balanced. Not sure where I could do a reverse test and how safe that might be but will keep in mind when im out at 3am. The assym tyre pattern argument makes sense. Didnt think about that. It is a FWD car also. But Ive owned a few minis now and this is the only one Im having an issue with at the moment so..

I had RE003s on the E39 - great but were expensive at the time. I put LK01s on the M135i and drove them for months, then changed wheels and put on RE003s and felt no noticeable difference tbh They are the made in indonesia version of hankooks. Road nose, dry weather grip both excellent. Wet weather grip - absolutely fine but Im no racecar driver. I did have to drive through the Karangahake Gorge during a torrential downpour with wipers going full speed and i had no issues at all. For half the price of RE003s, you could try them out and see if you like them. If not then flick them on (to me) and go get some PS4S or something :p

^ I understand all of this BUT, the alignment sheet "looks" fine to me. It looked fine before and it looks fine now. BUT it still swerves left. Im wondering if it is an inherent issue with this model vehicle or if there is something else wrong with the car such as tie rod/control arms or maybe a bent chassis.

+1 close this thread and move on. we have better things to discuss
-
Car still drifting left so went in for another alignment. Have driven 400kms since it rolled off the machine a week ago but problem persists. New alignment sheet attached - note the difference between previous actual and new previous measurements.. I might start throwing new suspension parts at it because I want to do them anyway but this is bloody annoying. I dont want uneven wear on my brand new tyres either..

Are you sure about this? Afaik all spacers require a cert. happy to be proven otherwise though
-
They are good but as Dave said, can be quite loud on the road. My absolute best budget tyre recommendation is the Laufenn LK01. around $600 for a set of 18s or $500 for a set of 17s is way too good of a price
-
Im also pretty keen to buy it if you dont end up taking it
-
going for a pair of 130s?

Whats wrong with the dragon sports? had them on my 116i and they were perfect. I also had the Laufenn LK01's on the M135, also put them on my E46, and have them now on the mini. Cheap and plenty good enough for me for daily driving and took them on road trips around north island no problems. I am not a fan of direction tyres but personal preference. I believe the Toyos are good but not long lasting. Soft compound I think.. Re tyre size, I think it largely depends on your wheel width if its square or staggered. I like the idea of 235/40/18 square but otherwise you could even do 225/40/18 and 245/35/18. (Have a play around with sizes in relation to prices, it can vary quite a bit!)

Without more info pretty hard to suggest any model but an easy recommendation these days is the E87 130i hatchback. Otherwise an E91 325i wagon is also a nice all rounder. Or an E90 330i sedan. Always go for an M Sport varient. If you want something quick and have deep pockets for repairs/maintenance 335i coupes can be had for around 10k but budget another $5k in repairs for the next year just incase. If you want something bigger, something like a tidy E39 530i is great if you can find one otherwise an E60/E61 530/540/545's are a great option, diesel options also available.

Yea still wouldnt bother trying to run 245 on an 8" wheel as the tyres will bulge out and handling will be poor. also known as ballooning. Its all good to compare to the original 16" wheels for reference but the original 16's have poor (but standard) fitment in my opinion and you can get better looking and better performing fitments by going with my recommendations above.
-
Its a learning process.. no wonder its so small, 205/40 is way too tiny for an E39. You wont be able to run 245/40 on your 18x8 wheels because 8" is too narrow to fit 245 width. the most you could do is probably 235/40 Also, bigger tyres wont mean it will "fill up the guards nicely" because your offset is still too high and the width of the wheel is still too narrow so your mag wheel is still sitting further in towards the car rather than closer to the guard edge. $1100 for those wheels isnt a bad trade in value to save yourself some hassle.
-
Its "fine" to run the wheels as is. Just looks a bit odd cuz its tucked in so much due to the high offset. if you run spacers it will look better visually but the biggest issue is getting a cert which is not a great thing to do cuz then you are stuck with this set up which ultimately doesnt suit your car and secondly if you do run it without cert then you will have issues with insurance in the event of an accident. Like I said, best thing to do is to on-sell them to someone with a 3 series and get proper fitting mags + tyres rather than getting the "wrong" 225/45/18" tyres again which will make it even more difficult to sell in the future cuz that tyre size wont fit 3 series anymore.
-
Best thing to do is to sell the wheels and buy some proper fitting ones. Correct specs should be something along the lines of: Front: 18x8 or 18x8.5, offset around 10-20 with 225/40/18 or 235/40/18 Rear: 18x9 or 18x9.5, offset around 15-25 with 255/35/18 or 265/35/18 (this is not a rule, its just what works. Some idiots might want to run zero offset wheels with stretched tyres etc for stance but my guide should give you a nice flush proper fitment with actual useable tyre sizes rather than something that will crack your wheels on the first pot hole) Photos for reference: 18x8 offset 13, 18x9.5 offset 25, tyres 225/45 front 255/35 rear

you can get it from: Dr Emmett's Coolant Ltd 101 McFly Road Almanac, 2009
-
a true M car indeed. must be light night and day compared to the E92
-
I could definitely do cream or brown leather seats and door inserts but complete dash and interior..
-
cant deal with that interior colour tbh. also doesnt make sense financially as its in the SI.
-
keep up with regular oil changes using good quality oil and filter. these engines dont like overdue service and your valvetronic motor and or shaft will tell you by a $4000+ bill.

https://www.rockandrubble.com/pricelist-onehunga Seems to be $50 for a single axel trailer's worth. I dont have a trailer but will need to hire one in the weekend to pick up some timber. Not sure if Im allowed to load up the petrol station trailer hires with dirt to take it to the cleanfil site.. i probably have about.. dont even know how to measure it.. um.. 10 big rubbish bag's worth? its like a good 10cm of dirt from a 5m x 6m garden so like 3 cubic meters worth? roughly?
