Just like my M3, you would have trouble replacing the Spec C. Should keep it and drive the wheels off it

e39 Oil Filter Housing Gasket Replacement (M54) questions
KwS replied to Arma's topic in Maintenance
this looks like a helpful guide too (for the M54) http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=660007 I think i used the bmwtips one, but im sure i removed the fan and shroud too. Beisan (as much as i dislike them) seem to have a good guide on the fan and shroud removal http://www.beisansystems.com/procedures/e39_fan_procedure.htm fake edit: oh, i think i might have done it at the same time as the vanos, which does need the fan and shroud removed. i guess start without removing them, see if you can complete the task, if not, remove it? -
was there a separate indicator flashing on the front? Quite common for DRLs to turn off on one corner when the indicator is flashing. Looks dumb but makes the indicator more visible.

Testing out my new Sony Actioncam

it does appear to be exceptionally tidy though, i think once the buyer gets over the shock of what they paid (and what theyll never get back for it) they will be happy with it.

e39 Oil Filter Housing Gasket Replacement (M54) questions
KwS replied to Arma's topic in Maintenance
Mine was an M52 but the basics should be the same. i didnt jack my E39 up when i did it. If you remove the fan and shroud there is an aux pump attached to the shroud at the bottom iirc, you will need to pull under the front to pop this off. I didnt have any under tray. Always disconnect a negative terminal first when dealing with car batteries. fan and shroud take 2 mins to remove, best to do it so you have space for the belt and tensioners. -
not too bothered, it lasted ok for a few months without the covers on, so ill just take them off again.
-
As somewhat expected, the headlights covers are a massive fail and the damn RH headlight has fogged up in the rain this morning. Think ill the covers off and biff them.
-
Step one is to make sure you can comply the car when it is imported to NZ.

So theres an issue with the old E36s, very common issue and mine suffered from it.... the old fogging headlights issue (you can see it in a few of the first photos at the start of this thread). The quick cure is to remove both of the bulb covers and shes all good from there. Ive been running like this since the day i got the car, but it seems to me that they are probably there for some reason. Today i decided to cut a slit in the bottom of the covers and see how that goes. If it doesnt work ill take them off and bin them, but hopefully it should let enough air in and out that they dont fog. Trusty old Dremel and a cutting wheel made short work of the plastic. And fitted Whilst under the hood i did notice something ill need to attend to at some point soon. One of the boots on my intake runners is cracking. Its not through yet, but ill keep an eye on it and get a new one on the way from germany (or a set if its cheap)
