In a nut shell: Plasmas have better black reproduction - blacks on LCD/LED are much harder to achieve. Plasmas are usually cheaper. Plasmas can suffer burn-in like older PC monitors. Plasmas often have lower native resolutions than LCD/LED which means the picture will be less clear = more blurry. Plasmas do not have as high refresh rates so action appears more jerky, and you get more flicker when the credits roll, etc. LCD's employ a LCD screen with fluorescent CFL backlighting. LED's employ a LCD screen with LED edge backlighting (which is why they are so thin). LED's are generally superior to LCD's which for the most part are superior to plasma. It's easier to make a larger plasma, and so to get the first big flat-screen tv's, it was the only option. Now LCD screens can be made bigger, you can get them in larger sizes. The newest LED tv's have full LED backlighting using the latest small-form-factor LED's which improves black reproduction, however I imagine these are still very expensive.

That's quite the handicap then.

Yep, a colleague got a very similar email from a friend who happened to be overseas at the time. Whilst it sounded obviously like a scam, they replied to be sure. The scammer then replied with a bunch of personal details to "prove" he was who he said he was. Obviously these had been taken from other emails. My colleague came to me for advice. I said scam, but if you're worried ask them something only your friend would know. He never got another reply. They're getting cunning.

You sent off a "request to manufacture" didn't you? That went to Licensys. PPlates aren't allowed to make the plates. Legally the only people in nz who can make plates is Licensys. Let us know how you get on Cliff.

I thought e9's were predominantly style 31's? or 33's. How easy are e36 style 17's to get?
-
Style 15'soff of e38? 16x7.5 ET 20 Good luck trying to find some - pretty uncommon.

@Simke I hate to defend pplates as I agree with your sentiment, but you do not understand how it works. Licensys do not supply plates.co.nz, they supply the consumer directly. YOU contact them to get your plate made. Plates DO NOT do this on your behalf. Your contract with plates ends with a letter in the mail confirming that you have the rights to the plate. However, if I owned Plates, I would contact Licensys on the customer's behalf. It's a small price to pay to provide excellent customer service. But we all know how great plates customer service is - non-existent.
-
They'll just tell you they didn't sell you the plates - the sold you the right to use the combination of style, numbers, and letters. Once you paid $950 for the rights to the plate, you sent an order to Licensys to have them made, did you not? So you paid $20 for the plates, and $925 for the right to have it made. So pplates = devil all right.

There plans a-foot to revive the Northland track. Still after a suitable hack.

I think you mean ubiquitous, but I'm following you. Don't let my banter fool you, I love that apple are doing this, it can only speed up what I think is a "killer app" for USB and data storage/transfer. It will have huge benefits for end-users. No more will you require a DVD player/etc attached to your TV or home theatre. If you are not getting your content from the web (and lets face it, not everyone wants to for all content), all you need is a USB-equipped TV or home theatre (or for now - media player, but these will hopefully be incorporated into tv's and home theatre units), and you plug in your USB movie - presto. With the advent of high-speed broadband for all users (not just those close to the handful of existing fibre cabinets) downloading content will be the primary method of obtainign it. But some other "hard" format is likely to still always be required in some way shape or form. At least in the foreseeable future with current technology.

Second link - so apple have decided the best way to have everything at your fingertips is to have a few rows of desktop shortcuts? - f**k me that's cutting edge! Seriously though, the solid-state storage and streaming of software is nothing new and the writing has been on the wall for a couple of years now. i still use optical discs, but only for "legacy" gaming and rental movies. Give that some time and they'll be gone too. As usual, apple have packaged the idea very slickly, but it's nothing new. Yawn.

Does anyone else find the kiwi sense of humour funnier when it's being viewed by a non-kiwi? Or do I just think I'm funnier than i am. Don't answer that. A stubbie is actually a short bottle of beer - I don't know where the f**k a can of beer is called a stubbie. Swandri's are woolen jackets usually with a tartan design. Thongs is the Aussie word for jandals. The etymology of the word is "Japanese Sandals". And these days Sandals are "Safety Jandals". Westies aren't the only ones who wear stubbies. They are often worn at cricket matches as part of the uniform of the "beige brigade", and by my dad. Although he prefers blue denim or forest green rather than brown. Stubbies are traditionally worn "one size too small" to emphasise a mans endowment, but commonly seen two sizes too small with the sack hanging out (once again - my dad). He especially likes to drink stubbies in his stubbies.

Son of a bitch. Wish I knew about this site before. I go here for lunch once or twice a week. Will be watching from now on. Cheers.

No it won't because you're talking sense. To the OP, and others (you know who you are). Joke or not, I'm getting a bit sick of all of the violence being talked about in threads (especially as most of it is in very bad taste). So far all I've done is edit, but I'm going to start to issue warnings and account suspensions if it keeps happening. Read the forum rules, please.

It should be fine. Freeview satellite is another option. Uses the same dish as sky, so if you have sky reception, you'll have freeview reception.

They don't need to live in west AK. But if they do, they are probably the related species known as Westies. Wait, what?

Me, not so much with the s2k, but I have to admit it crossed my mind when I wrote the above post. it's a bit like a cross between a Toyota MR2 and a Mazda MX5.

Yup, only 4-wheeled hondas allowed here are NSX's.
