  1. Search. There's been a couple of write ups - its easy, but there's quite a few steps.
  2. Good call. You were who originally recommended Euro-Italian to me Ray - about 3 years ago. Bought a few grand worth of parts from there since then and NEVER been disappointed.

The old Erkel mobile! These don't come up often - the last one was the one from the Te Puke museum.
  4. Seems to be good, safe advice. it's not as if a service costs the end of the earth - I do it standard proceedure for every vehicle I buy unless I'm certain its just been done. Maybe it's wasted $, but maybe its cheap peace of mind.
  5. As of yesterday 4 door diamantschwarz e30.
  6. Yes it is serious - you'll fail a WOF, and if you stop in a hurry you run the risk of putting themotor into the radiator. Very easy to fix though. Brand new mounts are about $50+GST from Euro Italian and if you have a chain block or a decent jack to lift the motor, they are easy to replace. BTW I assume you are talking about the rubber mounts, not the alloy arm attached to the block.

Just for my info, what (to the nearest couple of grand) is not cheap?

    Lock-out

That's a function of many aftermarket alarms (anithijack). Can be turned off. Dunno if it's a factory ption on e36's. Do you have an aftermarket alarm??
  9. You forgot to reattach the earth strap (goes from the sump to the chassis).
  10. Will and I were discussing this the other day. most of the holes line up. We did a bit of tutuing and decided you'd most likely need to do a cut and weld of the bell-housings like what Andrew did to his turbo. the bellhousings on the auto boxes un bolt so you ma be able to get one of an auto for m30 and cut and weld onto an m20 box. Short answer - yes but we don't think its bolt-up -> custom fabrication necessary.

    Lock-out

Ahh, so you aer ruby's new owner? Good car you've bought there. As to the lock thing, it go so bad on an e30 I had it ended up easier to change the lock barrel on that door and just have a separate key to operate the driver's door lock. All central locking will still work. It's a sad fact that eventually these things wear out. It's a 20min job to swap out the lock barrels if you know how or can find someone who knows.

  13. Added to watchlist. Pity it's in the SI - I'm not all that keen to travel to pick it up but would be excellent for the e30m30 conversion. Plus as of today I'm back to just one BMW so need to find another one. Good luck with the sale.
  14. bmw.maniac blonder then Emma! wtf?

    '87 M325i.

Bid $1 Good luck with the sale. I hope you get good money for it.
  16. Although they are going up. $1200+ is not unheard of and we are not talking mint condition either.
  17. It would depend on the model of your GPS receiver. Some cheaper units may only give velocity based on time differential between two epochs of data (distance/time) but most decent units either measure the doppler shift of the carrier signal combined with the known velocity of the satellites contained in the broadcast ephimeris, or this PLUS a correction from the distance/time data to smooth out the noisy doppler result. Long story short - a decent handheld GPS unit should give you velocity accurate to ±.5km/hr or better based on my understanding of the technology. I use it every day although admittedly not for velocity measurements.
  18. BTW if they won't insure you in a gtb, they won't insure you in a sr20det e30. To make it properly quick turbo or re-power are the only real options although if you take care of the intake and exhaust, spend some money on cams and maybe engine management (talk to the pros - I'm not one) and put your car on a VERY serious diet (lose everything from the interior, AC, power everything has to go, etc) then it will be quite a fun ride.
  19. Interesting results. I would have thought it would have done more. Still a huge improvement though.
  20. Link fixed Fast, but 2mins of f**king about for 15 sec of fun = lame.
  21. Does it only smoke on startup? Does it do it if the car has been sitting for say an hour or only after a few hours sitting? Blue smoke is oil in the combustion chamber. Could be worn rings - would smoke under load at around 2-4000rpm not just on startup. Could be worn valve guides - would smoke on startup, but not sure how it could cause the shudder (assuming the two are related). Blown head gasket (possibly) causing pressure drop and thus blow by so therefore smoke on start up plus also shudder. Anything further than that is way outside my area of experience. Any of those three are not cheap, but not the end of the car either.
