Chassis, steering or suspension component - often the front control arm bush housing is the lowest point at the front. What you suggest would be one way to work it, but it's not exact. There are 3 or four different thickness spring seat pads standard on e30's - if you are too low, get one o the thicker pads. A 50-55mm drop will have you pretty much on the 100mm limit generally depending on how much weight you cart about in terms of sounds, how flat your tyres are etc.

Yup - they are the same. If the m20b25 car is already a manual, and the m20b20 box is a getrag 240 you will need the driveshaft and selector linkage from the m20b20 car as the gearboxes are slightly different lengths. The bellhousing bolts, clutch, flywheel etc are the same. Also, pre-f/l box will go on f/l car fine. f/l box may not work on pre-f/l motronic as there are additional sensors for the earlier motronic that screw into the gearbox.

Just did mine, then found this - few corrections if I may Tim? You forget to mention how many clicks means the handbrake should be adjusted. Bentley says more than 8. Once mine is adjusted properly, I found that the 8th click is quite hard to achieve, so sounds about right. You also mention to turn the star wheel clockwise - clockwise changes whether looking at the wheel from the back of the car or the front - you should turn it up on the left side of the car, and down on the right to expand the shoes. Also, I found it a pain to turn it with a screwdriver as mentioned. 3-5mins removing the brake caliper (2x 17mm bolts) and the brake disc itslef (1x allen locator bolt) meant I could easily access the star wheel - Loosen the adjuster nuts almost right off inside the car, then expand the shoes until you can just get the brake disc back on over them. Then tighten the adjuster nuts with the handbrake on the 5th click until you feel resistance from the shoes. To adjust bias, the easiest way (although not necessarily the most scientific) is to find a patch of grass, get up to about 15-20km/h and apply the handbrake smoothly, but quickly enough to lock the wheels - you will feel one wheel lock up first - adjust accordingly. If you are not sure which wheel locked first - go look at your skid mark. You could get someone to spin the wheel and then count the clicks for it to stop the wheel and then adjust the other side to match, but you need another person, and it is important to spin the wheel at roughly the same speed and apply the brake at roughly the same rate.

Glad she didn't try to say she couldn't see your brake lights. I'd have sneakily removed the stockings before the 5-0's turned up. That's my only fear with blacked tails.

not bad, not bad... Martyn - you should never belive tales told out of school. Although if you are referring to what i think you are, then you may be right.

You don't need to remove the crossmemeber. I replaced my sump by lifting the engine - didn't remove any coolant piping or anything - may need to loosen clips of fan shroud so it doesn't foul, but if you can - make a support structure above the car (two stands and a couple of planks), then with a bit of wood on a jack, jack the motor up on the sump with the motor mounts undone, then tie a chain or rope to hold the engine up - tighten either using a bar and twist, or if you have some tensioners or anything that will work (Look around your workshop). Then release the jack - you can slide the sump out without removing the crossmember. Either way works - it depends on what you want to do.

I'm keeping that. She's my new co-driver.

A few weeks back, I was involved in the annual Bay Of Islands Sailing week Regatta. For those of you who don't know - it is one of the countries biggest sailing events. Keiti (Spanner Girl), My dad, and myself are all volunteer Coastguard members. Dad is a Senior skipper and helped start th eunit up here (was the inaugral president for 5 years), I am about 2 minutes away from being a qualified skipper, and Keiti is a new member on basic crew. So as we know the organisers, are qualifeid, and also know many of the competing yachtsmen we were asked to help. Our launch was one of the committee/start boats and I got some decent pics - here are a few. BMW related hence posting up here. Click to enlarge: (first 3 are random action shots, others are Team McMillan Boat) Team McMillan pwned by suzuki: the suzuki boat crossed the line about 8 secs later well in front. This next pic - the boat with the yellow spinnaker is Custard Truck - possibly NZ's fastest sport boat built by a friend of mine, and my brothers ex-flatmate, Richard Kiff. His Parents organised the regatta. Was an awesome week off work. Weather was mostly great, sailing was great, and the after parties each night were exceptionally great. I wasn't the only bimmersport member who had a good time at the after parties either... Good times had by all.

Are you f**king brain dead? This is more like it.

LuK is SA company but some stuff manufactured in Germany. Expect to pay $220-280 in NZ. Will swears by them. I have one. I have a minor clutch prob, but I'm not sure its the clutch kit - pretty sure I have a faulty master cylinder or air in the line. Clutch itself has had a hiding and still doesn't slip. Not high performance, but certainly good replacement for OEM.
