  1. Seeing as TM seems to be the place to buy a radar detector and this is my thread, I'm going to take it off-topic to discuss this further because it interests me. Whilst browsing I came across this. One recurring point is a desire to make radar detectors illegal. Now, seeing as they are not illegal, and neither is owning a police scanner, and using of either is not illegal either, then your comment Cain about a "frequency you have no right accessing" is not quite correct as you are clearly allowed to access the frequency. You just are not allowed to transmit on that frequency or act on any information gained. Semantics I know. I don't want this to turn into a discussion on radar/laser jammers as we did that last year but a discussion (with links or references, not just opinion) on legality of acting on a radar detectors warning would be good.

    Fog Lamp Film

Super cheap auto sells some. You cut it to size, then heat up the lights a bit, peel the backing and stick on. It comes off relatively easy though due to the raised moulded lettering on the lights (f/l - dunno about pre f/l) so somthing like clear silicon shoul be used to glue them on - looks like factory. The film sticks to headlights fine no silicon needed. Will has actually cut small perspex covers and screwed them on to the valance above the lights - looks very good and no gluing.
  3. Jammers are illegal yes. You can have anything that receives laser/radar signal, but not transmit and jammers transmit. Similar to police scanners - you can have one and listen to police broadcasts, but if you act on that information its against the law. Wonder if technically slowing down due to your detector going off could fall under this also.

    Northland Floods

Water has receeded now. Looks sort of back to normal except for the damage to property, roads, bridges and boats. We have a boat in our shed now that was hit by several others. Transom is pulled off a little bit, two holes in the side, cabin sides cracked, rubbing strips all stripped off, auxiliary outboard ripped off. We got off more or less scot free - our dam survived the watre flowing over the top and everything has dried out - others not so fortunate. Awesome pics will - I didn't have my camera when I was on the road, so alwthough I too did some serious 4 wheeling to get around, I have no pics. The one of Alley's parking lot is where I got stranded and had to turn back - someone in a 4x4 similar to mine tried to cross the flooding and had to stop when the water was up to the bottom of his windows. Someone tied a rope to his vehicle and winched him through 150year return storm someone said yesterday!
  6. Have you disabled the bands not used in NZ??? From what I've been told by users of v1's is that as long as you have the non-nz bands blocked they are the best you can get. If what I've heard is wrong, obviously I'd like to know.

    fuel

I did it for $100 in a 1.6l lancr in 2002 - my guess is it would be more than that!! Its about 1300km depending on exact departure and arrival point. I imagine youre 520 gets about 9.5l/100km on the open road, but at a conservative 10l/100km thats 130l and at current prices for 96 around $155-1.60 you're looking at $200 round figures, but could do it cheaper if fuel prices drop or you drive better than 10l/100km.

  9. Could it handle two bluetooth phones? ie two phones in the car at once and both able to be used on handsfree (one call at a time only obviously.)
  10. Good luck. I've always liked your car and I'm not a big fan of the e36 so that says something. About 18months too early for me
  11. Want a V1. Must be 1.8 but OK if not POP. $500 cash waiting for you. MUST provide me with a clear picture of the unit clearly showing the serial number. I will be running it through the Police database so no stolen units please. Thanks

    Northland Floods

Oh BTW, the road outside where Alley (Wills wife) works was flooded - river usually about 2-3m below road was 1.5m above road. So I couldn't get home. Ended up going home by boat - no sh*t. Where the f**k is Noah?

    Northland Floods

Christ - internet only just came back on. Have no water for the next week as our pump shed went under water and need to wait for the pumps to dry put. Spent most of yesterday rescuing peoples boats (including Emmas [Hi Tower] parents yacht - it has a big f**k-off hole in it.) Pics explain. Pump Shed: Breached Dam: Emma's yacht "Auralyn II"looking rather low in the water. Hole is on other side of hull - we used coastguard boat with line to top of mast to tip the boat over so that the hole was out of the water and could be repaired - They are still pumping the water out now: 300HP 4-strokes = 65mph on the water (over 50 knots): Unhappy Launch "Elite Hooker": Unhappy Yacht: Unhappy Car: mud shows water was over bonnet: Haruru Falls bridge (water is usually 5m below the bridge): I have many more of flood waters etc, unfortunately the spectacular shots (like a yacht drifting in 10kt river current into a bank, water flowing over the top of the stone store bridge, water up to the rooves of cars etc) I either didn't have my camera, or was too busy on the coastguard boat to get it out. Damn thing got wet and fogged up so no picks of slips across the road this morning either.
  17. Are the front footwells wet at all?? If you are parking nose up hill and the drain in the front firewall is blocked the area where the wiper motor is fills up and overflows into the heater blower ducting and then leaks into the front footwell from where it can drain back to the rear ones. Or replace seal around sunroof? On a wet day with the car parked outside if I open the sunroof, its almost bone dry in the tracks - almost no water gets through the seal. Stop the leak at the source.
  18. oh true - works. Pain to do it each time i want to save one, but ah well.
  19. Not a new problem but an existing one. PM outbox doesn't save sent messages. have asked and I'm not the only one with this prob.
  20. He needs the stock e30 item.
  21. I have one that has rusted inside that is in the pile to go to the tip. You're welcome to it - just thought you'd like a rust free one.
  22. Chuck Norris. Why? Ultimate Showdown.
  23. Running Sport Maxx's - good tyres so far. Previously had Dunlop SP 9000 DSST's (runflats) poor ride and awesomw handling, grip and turn-in. When I put new Sport MAxx's on the Rear and worn SP 9000's on the front the rear went all loose and flighty. Swapped front to rear and problem went away. now the Maxxs have had a couple of hundred km on them they are fine on the back. Suspect if I had all four Maxx's it wouldn't have been an issue. On an e30 205/40/17's $170ea incl. GST balanced and fitted. Point to note - I am also running excessive negative camber and get around 30,000km to a set.
