  1. i doubt NZ is any different the BMW Canada. if a gearbox had issues, BMWs only solution is to replace the whole transmission. The dealers would often refer thier customers to us. edit: in some cases we would even bill straight to the dealer. I know the BMW dealer ships here in NZ outsource some thier Getrag manual work
  2. the sunroof panel is, as is the cassette. if you are doing a full roof swap, then yes the sheet metal part number with BMW is the same, obviously B pillars are welded in a different place. If you pull off the A and C pillar trims you will see where the roof was welded on. i think you need you unstitch the rear sear back and parcel shelf to do it the way BMW would, but been a while since i looked closely.
  3. i worked for an authorised ZF repairer for 2 years and not once did we have that issue, and thats across dozens of makes and models that use the same trans. prone is a red herring here. forums eh.
  4. im not an idiot, mate. Ive met Scott before, he is not the sort of driver you describe. Even if he was, No road car, ever, should be getting 18,000km from a set of tyres, much less a set of brake pads and rotors. It is an alignment issue for sure. maybe bent arms etc and alignment needs to compensate. If its not and BMW consider 18,000km normal life from a 30d, thats incredible.
  5. how on earth do you only get 18,000km from them ?? sounds like you have a serious alignment issue or the airbags not inflating properly etc. I have an X5 too, its my daily and has a trailer on most weekends, towing a car at least once or twice a month. mine are nearly done on the back now, at 35,000 (just about to tick over 200 and i brought the car at 157, and changed them not long after i brought it)
  6. went to see this car today. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/320i/listing/3398813919?bof=phVBCxpG just doing some research as he reckons its a 2.5 but i was sure looking at it it was a 2.3 subsequently found this thread! shame the OP of this thread is now trying to sell it as a 2.5 knowing its not the car is scrap anyways though, as the intake is off bonnet most of the way off when i arrived so likely water in the bores. water all through the fuse box too. and the firewall is totally rotted out big time. gearbox notchy etc. about the only good thing is it has a good sunroof on it
  7. could be any colour you like for the right dollars, is will be repainted anyways. right now its mostly Royal Blau
  8. it will be done to a standard where I would be happy to keep, but yes it will be listed as well when finished. I already have my cabby and my race car that I dont use nearly enough!
  9. actually havent started yet. at the moment I bascially travel from Kerikeri to Invercargil for 6-8 weeks straight, and then have 4-6 weeks where i stay in Wellington, next week being the first of the latter, so Im very keen to get cracking!
  10. yep its in my driveway now. i also brought a tech2 325i manual a few weeks back which I will be giving a full restoration. really looking forward to the final result in a few months time. I am looking for some front sport seats, ideally in black leather but anything considered, if anyone has some lying about. NZ wide is fine. Coupe or Sedan is okay, have the bits here to convert if I need to. Also need a rear pair of premium audio speakers/housings with the tweeters built in. 0273079322 yeap, and at least 2 people out there prepared to pay $10 less than the selling price. last one i sold was for $2400NZD i shipped to a guy in Toronto where I used to live. Parts are not expencive in NZ compared to elsewhere in the world. Nearly half of my sales are to overseas now. Oddly quite a lot goes to Aussy too, not sure why, maybe they had a cash for clunkers scheme at one point ??
  11. tis but a scratch in the hutt valley
  12. seats are good for the skip. car has been left with an open window or something for years, all the foam has rotted away.
  13. i went and looked at the car when it was first posted, and walked away. Buyer beware, thats not a car you should be buying sight unseen.
  14. the whole thing is stupid from top to toe. under the emmissions trading scheme, New Zealands emissions are capped already, and you already pay your contirubution toward that at the pump. Switching to EVs has the wider effect of freeing up emissions for other industries. there will be no overall decrease in emmissions. The subsidy is supposed to lower emmissions. true for cars, but not overall.
  15. No, its not a facelift. Its a prefacelift with an aftermarket fiberglass replica Mtech2 kit.
  16. btw, ill freely admit the convertible version is not the drivers E30. its a lot heavier, and flexes a lot more too. as Jon says, it is a cruiser
  17. Sort of. all facelift E30 cabbys are 1990 built or later. This means in NZ they are usually registered as 1991 or 1992. early prefacelift cabbies all have lower rear arches than thier coupe and sedan brothers of the same age. the lower arches were then carried through to all facelift E30s. and that tech2 kit is fiberglass. it is not possible to fit tech2 kit onto a prefacelift car. re my manual conversion. yes it is converted because thats my preference, but everything is all OE parts, and i have all of the automatic stuff here to convert the car back if i want to. it can be back to original in 6 hours and noone would ever know. And i have just sold a M20B25 for more than the asking price in that add.
  18. My insurance is up for renewal soon, what do you guys think mine is worth ?? 325i Convertible. Facelift which is very rare for a cabby. Kiwi New Im the third owner other than BMW dealers. 125,000km Calypsorot Metallic - never been repainted or damaged Manual conversion using Getrag 260 Perfect dash. Tartain sport interior F&R, M Tech2 Steering wheel, 370mm type. Map light mirror retrofitted (not available on cabby from new) Tech1 Spoiler Garaged entire life. Only non-OE mods are the wheels and eibach springs, though the originals are still here, as well as the original sport auto and all the bits that go with it. *Edit: also has a "RyanG" lip/splitter fitted under the SE lip. and has a Clarion period correct headunit, with a small under seat all in one subwoofer. all of this edit i completed, in such a way all can be removed without a trace. * New Roof March 2021 Minor pinhole paintless dent repairs completed shortly thereafter after. All new ignition system in 2018 Oil changes yearly, only year missing is 2019 as i was in Canada at the time and car was layed up. Sales brochures and original purchase reciept, as well as all maintenance receipets from new, incl fuel receipts from the second owner. Never been crashed and never had any rust repairs, ever! there would be evidence of it, or at least a reciept to go with the rest of the history, if there was.
  19. I have a not so secret desire to buy a 60s Lincoln Continental , but all this stuff does mean i cant see the value in the $60-80K Sticker price for most of them in NZ. thats a lot of cash to have tied up. as much as i dont like to admit, now is probably the best time to get out of classic cars here in NZ and europe. they have a way to go in the states yet though.
  20. in my experience, it is easy to misalign the vanos on reinstall. there is no "keyway", presumably for balance reasons. it is a 5 min job to pull off, or 15 if your rocker cover and coils are in place. would pay to crack it open and check its all in order. what crank angle sensor are you using ? me and Chris Stoss's racecar has a link in it, there was a bit of faffing around to get a crank angle sensor that was compatable with the Link ECU.
  21. Surprised a Mod hasnt shut this thread down already...... I for one am getting tired of the private messages and emails about warnings about this thread This garbage is why forums are dying and I dont come on here much anymore, less often post. Hope everyone is well Thread closed.
  22. thanks for sharing. Miss my calypso V12 swapped touring. that dark blue is very nice tho
  23. _ethrty-Andy_

    M20 Headers

    wow thats very tempting.......
  24. $8-10 a liter is normal price. thats why 320i arent very economical, because they burn more oil than they do petrol
