  1. http://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/suplementary_information/LVVTA_LVV_Cert_Threshold.pdf This would suggest yes it would need to be certified. However if you fitted an OEM non-power steering rack such as from an early 316i, and removed all associated gear, then you would probably be fine. legally, probably still requires cert, but would be perfectly safe and unlikely a WOF guy would notice, and if they did, care.
  2. also make sure you use the right fluid or tell the garage that will be doing it, I'd recommend going to either BMW or Page European and get them to. Don't be scared of "dealer/specialist prices" higher per hour yes, but they know what they are doing so the repairs are quicker and you know they will use the correct fluid.
  3. not to mention when its onto its second and third owners that dont treat them like a new car, nor look after them like a new car. At least the less on the road the better. they are ghastly looking things, although i will admit better than the 1 series that looks like it has the face of a turtle.
  4. when was the last time you changed your transmission fluid? if its more than a few years, or you dont know, change it for a start, you need to anyways, and can start diagnosing after that. Edit: your car may have a "sealed for life" transmission, total garbage. as above, change the fluid, it is 15 years old now
  5. Anyways, not to worry for you, you are still 3 years off registering your E30
  6. Followed Martyn in his very nimble E34 back from Otaki to Kapiti this morning yes it was me in my trusty Hiace lol
  7. it makes a bit more sence now
  8. snow, maple syrup and canadians.
  9. nah all the same below the shock sleeve except provision for ABS casting or not etc. i should have a bit of time tomorrow arvo ill put the 51s along side the 45s i have here and confirm (can't sell the 51s i have here sorry, they are the original ones from the cabby.)
  10. I have some 45s here if any use to you? when i did the coil overs on my touring pretty sure they cut more or less back to the hub anyways, so don't think there is any advantage of 51mm over 45mm in E30 case, except for if you need provision for ABS sensors. or are you using cheap and nasty screw in coil overs?

my E38 728i is very spacious, boot is enormous as on all 7s. got enough pull, people often forget the smallest engine in the 7 is the biggest engine in the 3, the 3 fully loaded with people and gear is more than the weight of the 7. Would think the 740i is the pick of the range in E38 chassis tho As for E65, been in one on here belonging to a member, (he wont mind me saying this, he agrees), the dissapointing looks do extend to the cheap build quality inside, coatings peeling away around edge of the seats and door handles even worse than what occurs on E46. Not things that should be present on a $200k car, where "real" materials could have been used. dash design i find a bit... odd, but thats personal preferance much like the outside. Some things like the colum shift lever and key features would take some getting used to, and would be unnatural unless its your only car. However credit where credits due, the ride was very comfortable, seats and suspension worked well etc, and the V8 had enough grunt to get things moving.
  12. Its a long story, the ending of which has a new company Auto38 setup in Masterton. Jon still has same cellphone number etc, and would assume his JKSE account here is still active if you want to get hold of him.
  13. yep really your only two choices now.
  14. sorry missed you had US not NZ $
  15. Saw Allans 325ti today near the big boat shop on SH1 near paraparaumu And a stunning dark blue E3, twice!
  16. the V8 is probably the cheaper to keep in the long run i would think.
