Hmm, so torsion bar length will be the first question followed closely by input shaft length. Chances are this will be a total fail, but I'd still like to find out

Has anybody ever pulled a steering rack from an E36 apart and compared the internals to a newer (i.e. E46 / E39) one? I have an E39 530i m-sport rack from a car I tore apart a while back, and would love to know if the innards will work in an E36 rack housing. Seems on paper to be a straightforward way of getting the quicker lock to lock ratio without shelling out $300-500 on an E46 sport rack. I briefly thought I could use the E39 rack but noticed the mounting tabs are on the opposite side to the E36 so that killed the idea pretty quickly. Bear in mind that my knowledge of these things is nil so any constructive input is useful

Personally can't comment on the difference with the V8 but I've fanged around in single and dual mass types in a friends E36. Single mass does rev a little more freely but I thought the clutch grabbed a little harder. DM was a little slower to climb but felt smoother. I'm inclined to agree with Andy on this one - spend the change on some quality rubber to cope with the extra torque at the rears From what I recall, redline is around 6k rpm with the V8s - most of the torque is available at the bottom end of the rev range so I'm not sure how a single mass flywheel would benefit your project?

Theres an M6x Luk flywheel & cultch kit on tardme for $1600. Not as satisfying as a lighter aftermarket setup but much less painful on the wallet

fixed

Sweet, gives me more time to convince wifey we need this more than my E36!

You'll get a limited slip centre that you can put into your current diff for that kind of money, but unless you find someone that wants to sell one for bail / drug / beer / hooker money you won't get a complete unit that cheaply sorry bud. Swapping the centres is quite easy, if a bit of a grubby job - theres one on trademe for about $700 atm

So less than 3k was all you were being offered??! Staggering!

Still looking, seems I inadventently offended my previous lead

Bump, can also add E28 3.25:1 to the list. Open units preferred, LSD is already in the car and I just can't justify a limited slip shelf ornament
-
Agreed, though as I already had most of the parts in the shed I thought I'd try the usual suspects before sending it to a shop. CCV was due for replacement regardless. Bummer, didn't know you don't have a smoke tester!

Line the boot with a couple of bin liners and layer wet newspaper over the frozens. Will easily last an hour plus if its beef / mutton if it gets a little warm it'll be fine. Wouldn't want to chance it with poultry or pork though! Maybe grab a couple of bags of ice to rest on top to keep the uppermost layer nice and cool? The newspaper trick also works very well for chilling beers on the quick

Thanks, but I'm only wanting the 3.23 or 3.25 gearsets, must be medium case as I'll be running them in an E36

And the 7k balance over an easy 60 month term at a generous 29% p/a interest rate? Sold!

What about Milland? Tried Sterling Brake & Clutch in Onehunga?

Zombie thread alert!! Still getting codes 227 & 228 through INPA. Parts replaced so far: CCV & all associated hoses (what an ar*ehole of a job that is!!) MAF for a known good spare All rubber bungs Air rail & o-rings Intake boots & hose connector Fuel regulator / filter vacuum line 'F' connector on intake boot and the hose that runs to the sucking jet pump Only parts I haven't yet done is the jet pump itself, manifold gasket and injector o-rings. There is an occasional rough idle that I'm attributing to the Vanos unit - I have a rebuilt one that will probably go on over the Xmas period. Is there a possibility the o2 sensors could be at fault here? Car has now done 160,000km+ so I'm guessing they're at or near the end of their lifespan. Hoping to get the car booked in with Glenn and have him look at it, thoroughly over this

Thanks mate, I've already got a 3.15 LSD in the car at the moment. 3.23 should be a nice little step up without having a massive impact on cruising revs, plus a gearset swap has been on my to-do list for ages

Market Value for E36 6 speed (M3 Evo) manual?
Ahmedsinc replied to tawa's topic in TradeMe discussions
Aside from the cool factor of having six forward speeds the only advantage to the Evo box is a proper overdrive. Difficult to justify if you do the majority of your driving in an urban environment but invaluable if you do a lot of open road touring. As Rubix said above, $1500 will get you a full ZF 5 speed conversion - the 6er needs an Evo driveshaft, and you'll need to confirm what shifter links it needs too. I'd struggle to justify it unless it was being used on a S50/54 conversion or something like Toasts Kellener E36 - adds to the desirability c/o the rare factor. Then again, if you've always wanted a 6-speed E36 this is a pretty good opportunity! -
In 3.23:1 ratio, wanting the gears for a rebuild project. Am aware of the one on trademe but have decided its too expensive once freight is factored in. Thanks!

Import or NZ new Glenn? ZA plates look about right for 2000. In its current state I'd guess about $1000 +/-. Even with a replacement DME and a new enclosure it's still only a non-M spec 528i with approaching 200,000km. Bummer this didn't come up a couple months ago, I had a perfect condition DME enclosure he could have had for free BIffed it out as I thought I'd never have a use for it!

This. Sooner or later the rot will kill the body and you'll be back into the same predicament. Look for a good body with the 2.5 and swap across your goodies to that. The B23 is probably rebuildable but something tells me it would be a money pit to get it right
