Chris... I am very concerned regarding your safety after looking at your pictures. The set up you have/using in your carport is so unsafe. When you start refitting the gearbox, if you jack up via the front crank pulley you will start lifting the car before you get to the position you need to get the gearbox in with out damaging the clutch center plate. An employee, a very considerable time ago did this on a 2 year old 325i which cost me sh*t loads but luckily no one was hurt. Without the right gear in the right environment I'm concerned you will hurt yourself. Please listen... I'm not trying to piss on all the great work you are doing and have done. I commend you on this

Getting the gearbox out will be easier than getting it back in with the weight on the back of the engine. Putting it back in with out loading the clutch center and bending it will be your first hurdle. Doing it on stands without the right tools can also be very dangerous. It really should be only attempted doing it on a hoist with a transmission jack to get the alignment and load right or dropping the engine, transmission and front cross member together.

What you are using is probably not suitable to reset the module. Are you absolutely sure the fault was the clock spring or a ghost fault code ?

The set I use will not round off a brake nut or nipple. In over 50 years I've not done that

No... plastic will fail before over tightening occurs

Make sure you replace the loom socket as well when you do this. They leak and can only be replaced with the pan off. These pans have a fit once or leak tolerance

Talk to Transmission Solutions in Manukau and buy the Amtex 6 speed oil of them. It's what we used BTW...you need to set the oil level in park on a level surface at 45 degrees C

Be careful Nathan. From memory X5 engine sump and bell housing profiles are not similar to sedan RWD only vehicles

They are both the wrong kits. From those poor quality photos it's hard to determine whether it is the pan that is leaking. Several items can cause the leak shown. I would get it checked by a professional.

I'm sorry I couldn't help you with the PPI now that the business has closed due to my retirement. These vehicles are / can be quite problematic when not serviced correctly by time and or mileage. Especially when coming X Japan and the UK. I hope all goes well for you and feel free to phone for any advice..... actually.. give me a call tomorrow

The M43 engine is the better option in the 4 cylinder versions- much more reliable and less problematic

Make sure the aftermarket LED tail lights are not leaking into the boot and wiring loom if you are keeping it outside in Palmy
