All the arguing over the engine is missing out on the other hardware. LSD, suspension, and other M bits that BMW never puts on non M cars. Still, if you don't care for the "special low volume M car" factor you can mod a 135i to match or exceed a 1M's capabilities for less money. Many people have done that.

Apparently NZ's solution to reducing prison numbers is for police and government to cover their ears and avoid dealing with crime.

Ebay cheap ones do just fine... higher risk of getting a faulty one but they're cheap enough that it's not a big deal. Mine works fine on my 2010 model. I'm betting Bimmer Software just bulk orders a custom branded set with their own specifications from one of those Chinese suppliers.

Stage 2+ doesn't mean it can't run the stock map. Downpipes and intercooler don't cause issues with the stock map. Aside from the check engine light caused the the lack of a cat, which doesn't affect how the car runs. Have driven mine on the stock map and it was fine, and I have the usual stage 2+ bolt ons with a few other bits. But if it runs well on the map it's on, you may as well have the owner leave it installed. Hopefully he's checked logs to make sure it runs well.

If the owner emails MHD they might transfer the license to another Google account. Not sure if MHD requires the paid license to flash back to stock... good chance it does. It is a bummer they locked it to both the Google acc and VIN... if it was just VIN locked then at least it could be easily passed down to future owners. Guess the owner has too much on his Google account to be able to hand the account over? I'd be in the same boat, wish I made a separate account for the car.

Kinda cool but looks too small and narrow to be any fun in a car. Ok for a go cart.

Are number of historical WOF failures important
Matth5 replied to rod_r's topic in General Discussion
Depends, WOFs can fail you on stupid things. But every second WOF is a bit much and indicates a careless owner IMO. -
Newly purchased 135i running badly - beginning of a saga?

Plenty of other 135is around, maybe get one with an N55 for less potential hassle -
That sure is a sweet car to do a road trip in.

Proud owner of slightly damaged 2007 530i looking for advice

Part out. You'd make a good profit from that I'm sure. -
Background looks familiar... Q Motors. Bought my 335i there too haha. Those guys choose their stock well, they had some other awesome cars there at the time.

Newly purchased 135i running badly - beginning of a saga?

Hope this ends with dealer being named and given sh*t reviews everywhere possible. Amazing what lengths they went through just to skimp on the repair costs. Absolute scum if this is all what it sounds like. -
The checkbox is purely to enable/disable the error codes, it does not affect the tune. But yes it is safe, even the stock map works fine.
-
Yep. I've driven on stock map and stage 1 maps before with all S2 supporting mods and it drives fine. Catted downpipe checkbox just hides the check engine light when you're catless, which isn't even an issue in NZ. Check engine lights don't prevent you passing a WOF.

Common failure. Some people rig up a brake line hose as an upgraded replacement. Assuming you're talking about the thin one going across the radiator fan.

They don't usually come with the clip, you're lucky if you even get the o-ring. Auckland City BMW quoted me about $350 a few years back when mine blew up. Guess that wasn't enough profit margin for them. Anyway with this part it's definitely better to go aftermarket. BMW truly f**ked up on the charge pipes for these cars.

So the dealer didn't check fault codes before selling... obviously didn't give it a proper check-up or service when they got it. That's really poor IMO. -
E92 M3 + a cheap daily? 335i will be a nice combo of power + daily driveability.

A cigarette lighter powered tyre pump and a can of tyre slime from Repco or Supercheap, and you're covered pretty well really. Had plenty of punctures on my non runflats and the tyre pump always kept me going long enough to get to a tyre shop, still haven't even needed to use the tyre slime. The flat tyre monitor picks up pressure loss long before it's flat so you get plenty of warning. Runflats are a bad joke.

Seems like the insurance companies change the rules based on what favours them in the situation. Long time ago when I had a crap car and only 3rd party, I crashed into the back of another car. My insurance company paid THEIR insurance company the costs minus the excess, then the other parties insurance company contacted me direct to demand I pay the excess within a few days. I bet if you had full insurance they'd make the other insurance pay and you wouldn't have to deal with the unpleasant stuff. Not too long ago I had a billboard fall on my 335i and did some minor damage. Initially I had to pay the excess to the repair shop, but my insurance company (Trademe Insurance) dealt with the other party and once they recovered the costs, they paid me back my excess.

Hmm yeah looks like it. Seems halfway between M3 and 335i msport toe specs. I have an older alignment sheet showing the 335i specs are 1.9mm in the rear and 1.5mm in the front. BMWorkshop Botany arranged this when they were doing my service and installing the arms. Basically told them I want something that's good for the odd thrash and track session, but it spends a lot of it's time commuting on the motorway so take that into account. That's the result.

Visibly faded plastic on the interior air vents and that weird cubby thing on the dash. Must be from that Singapore heat.

Haha that was epic!

I had M3 front arms (both upper and lower) installed recently and they based my specs off an M3 competition pack. Works pretty well. Specs attached. Previous specs I had were a bit on the 'stance-ey' side with the rear camber, I think they overcompensated when I said I had rubbing on the rear (rear right only I think) from the aftermarket wheels.
