  1. My M62tu is in getting guides replaced ATM. Quoted 4 to 4.5k including water pump replacement. All being completed by idrive in New Plymouth, BMW indie that's done plenty and has all the right tools which is critical. Expensive one off but it's the major fail point so now hopefully good for the long haul
  2. Major fail, timing chain guide failure, deep gulp and now empty pockets. At least picked it up prior to total engine melt down, so that's the third major issue addressed, now transmission rebuilt, cooling renewed and now last major timing chain to sort. Pretty much tickets all the major fails for an E38, oh maybe front suspension might fall apart yet. Ah character.....
  3. Like this? Sorry can't have it, but good luck finding one
  4. And there not much better on the inside! I really don't know what they where thinking about lol. Great quote BTW
  5. Rains to much in Taranaki however the 45ks each way, co car helps the gas, is either 45 or 46 mins on a bad day
  6. I've used Idrive a few times for the E38s, been very happy with the team and outcomes. Pricing and advice has been solid to
  7. Had some rough running in the E38, changed plugs, they where rough as guts. Smooth now but after warming up makes a reasonable vanos noise. Looks like camshaft position sensor is causing trouble so will replace both of those this week as well and go from there .....
  8. Every cent in my money as well
  9. Righto, Taranaki to ChCh, sweet run down and 12l per 100ks running so far, includes some vigorous driving of the ChCh locals at around 17l/100. Run down south and then home next week ..... This thing kills fast open road driving, although over vigorous cornering ends in under steer which isn't surprising at its weight and fat V10 hanging out front but (relatively) ease into the corner and smash it out, never fails to deliver astonishing exit speed and makes up for it, racking through the paddle changes Got a sweet drive in my mates 2013 C63 yesterday, fastest bloody beast I've ever been in, frankly the S8 feels a bit pedestrian after this. gives you a bloody nose and a dash of whip lash just for a lark. Mental, oh and he averages 20l/100ks of our best 98.
  10. We bought the space saver kit, includes jack etc. for the E61 from BMWNZ locally, was $580 a year or so back, gave me peace of mind and obviously the fit and finish is perfect
  11. Yeah this had popped up previously, having run bugger all scares me, I can see cool system collapse imminent
  12. Car folie has done my last five tints and it was always worth the travel for the job they do, I wouldn't hesitate to travel again
  13. With one of each I get a clean pass all round and I can park anywhere I want
  14. They certainly have a now typical merc agressive look, TBH makes an M5 look soft which is more a reflection on the current BMW styling then this looking great IMHO, probably a better buy as well
  15. Battery died and was shot $400 running at 12.5 to 13 l/ 100ks so far on a few tanks. Pretty damn happy with that, mix of highway/ urban Good clay bar and wax has brought the Magic out in the finish as well
  16. Needed some new mats, $99 for a custom set front and rear from Fitmycar. Perfect fit and complete with factory mounting points and shaped, very happy. Highly recommend
  17. Mixed reviews on them, felt to me like it was all a bit custom and if you had a bad one .....
  18. Seriously considered this instead of the S8, very similar to a S6 really in performance and kit if not exclusivity. Obviously RWD over 4WD. It's exclusiveness and power output looked good but it's a LOT over a 550i as a base comparison. And while similarly quick to an M5 certainly a different car and Alpina are more GT tourer then racer. Which suits us ultmately for us the financial cost difference was to much to justify.
  19. Very nice Dave, great to see it back on the road! They certainly have a special feel about them
  20. In the end it was any easy choice, It is friggen awesome drive with that power and as you say Mike, really a golden era with these type of cars at the moment. Everyone thinks its worth north of 50k as well, lol
  21. Hi Glen, cheers. Been away myself. yip keen on it, what do you want for it?
  22. Yip had a fair bit of interest, about 68 watches on trade me and three definitive 'I'll buy it', so good to sell, sad to see leave
