Returning recently from the UK we bought a couple of vehicles in. It's pretty straightforward, as folks have said. Choose a good UK exporter who understands NZ and can manage the requirements. Make sure the quote includes delivery to your compliance folks here in NZ, don't pack anything else in the car (saves any associated issues), keep ALL documentation in physical and electronic form. As you're in NZ I would also recommend you have a chat with the people who will do your compliance. They can give you a lot of pointers.

Evening gents I think your replies, quite interestingly, illustrate my point in two different ways. Breaker, I think your outtake is exactly what BMW hoped for; somehow the fire has been caused by the owner and “independent repairer” (or perhaps they just wanted to use the ever under-utilised semi-colon!). How could that possibly be known with certainty by an unrelated party in such a short space of time? What is their “understanding” exactly? It may be nothing more than chatting to the recovery skip driver. We just don’t know. Gaz, I suggest you could reasonably come to that conclusion without the 2nd half of the last sentence? So why insert it? I think Breaker has answered that question (that no one asked), some people will conclude that it’s risky taking their car to an Indy. You know, this isn’t a great hill to die on. If I had an i3 I would be taking it to the BMW dealer. I just found their statement really interesting from a professional perspective.

That last sentence is interesting (from a PR perspective). "; however, we understand that the owner chose to recently have the vehicle’s servicing carried out by an independent repairer." Whilst the other facts can be verified through BMW's own systems, puchase, servicing, etc, this last one surely cannot? An unnecessary addition to the statement and perhaps demonstrating the tensions here? I would've advised differently.

That’s correct, as long as you have owned the vehicle for a period of time. It was a year when we bought our cars back from the UK. Less than a year means you pay gst on a depreciated valuation of the car.
