    Elias’ E30 project

Some more progress over the last week or so. Stripped all the suspension out, arms, struts, steering rack, front and rear subframe a, diff handbrake cables etc have all been removed. Masked up the engine bay and have begun painting the underside. Just using black Epoxy paint, any spots where there was minor surface rust wire wheeled back to clean metal. Will go over any seams with seam sealer and then do another coat of black epoxy. Very time consuming and messy process but will be worthwhile. Have done the first coat on the front wheel arches and underside of engine bay so far, lots more painting to do. also made up a new Clevis pin to adapt the e30 brake booster bracket thing that the pedal pull rod actuates to the e90 booster.
  2. Would also be interested to know this, but in Auckland, need to get my m52 injectors cleaned and tested.
  3. Beautiful example that one, and cheaper than some of the others I’ve seen listed. The owner also built a 1m clone out of a 135i, with an s65 swapped into it, which I’d imagine he prefers driving hence selling the 1m.
  4. Yeah and then blacklisted me for some reason
  5. Seller has blacklisted me for some reason. Apparently asking about paperwork required for a cert was upsetting
  6. Cheers for the suggestions. The car appears to have the OEM applied undercoating on it in most places, so would need something that can be painted over that, thinking maybe even just a black epoxy would do the trick.
  7. https://www.speedfactorshop.nz/products/bmw-3-series-ap-suspension-kit?variant=50652095938860 looking at purchasing this suspension kit (45mm strut 6cyl 40/30mm Version) for my pfl m52 swap e30. has anyone used this suspension before? Got any photos of rideheight can’t find much online cheers!
  8. Currently have my e30 sedan up on jackstands, front and rear subframes out, essentially just the shell at this point. Want to give it a good layer of underseal, including inside the wheel arches etc before I start putting new bushings and all the suspension back in. Anyone got any reccomendations for a good underseal product? Must be able to be brushed/rolled on no spray on, don’t have the space to spray anything. Was looking at this but open to suggestions: https://premierpbs.co.nz/products/plan-brush-on-under-seal-1-5l
  9. Thank you, have got a pedal box sorted now though, I should update the original post.
  10. From what I understand e30 and e36 diffs have the same 4 bolt input flange

Got a message from the panelbeater tonight that the cad was done. Went and fetched it after work, wasted no time as I was quite excited to have it back. Hired a trailer and jumped in the touareg to collect it. overall very happy with how it looks, yes there are some minor imperfections if you’re being very picky but for the money I paid you absolutely cannot complain. Rust hole is fixed (they chopped a piece of the cowl out to access it, then welded it back in and painted it blending up the a pillar), rust holes in firewall fixed, rust around boot seal lip fixed and painted, as well as entire engine bay/front structure painted. All of that cost half of what another shop had quoted for just the engine bay paintwork. next up I need to waterblast the underside of the car, strip out all the suspension and under seal the whole underside. If anyone has any reccomendations for a good underseal product that can be applied via brush/roller that would be much appreciated, unfortunately don’t have anywhere where I can spray.
  12. Definitely would also prefer an m3 for that money. While it is not to my taste in anyway it appears to be done to a decent standard at least. On a side note, I had a look at kiwiplates the other day and they no longer seem to offer the bmw branded euro plates.
  13. Would you consider selling parts separately? ive got a box already but need a driveshaft, clutch line, to use in my m52 e30. I understand an e36 328 driveshaft is what I require.
  14. The chrome windscreen lockstrip? the manual shift boot for the Center console. have got pedal box sorted. cheers
  15. Looking for some parts to complete my m52b28. Looking for a throttle body (simplest one possible will be going in a manual e30 so don’t need asc, cruise control, or whatever else). Intake boot to match, as well as the hose to connect the ICV to the boot. Maf to suit as well. As well as any other vacuum lines etc that I may need. closer to Aucklands north shore the better. cheers.

Made some more progress, engine is starting to look like an engine lots of bits back on now. Front sump swap done, new lower temp thermostat, waterpump, waterpump pulley, thermostat housing, tensioner, idler, belt. Power steering pump and oil filter housing back on too, as well as knock sensors etc. Will be deleting throttle heater and using the feed port from the head for the e30 dash temp sensor, have one with the correct e30 plug and m52 thread pitch. Just need to find some shorter bolts for the crank pulley now that I’m not using the AC pulley. car is still at the panelbeaters for a week or two but they’ve made some progress which is good. Next up to figure out the whole intake manifold assembly with icv, pcv, Evap etc.

Right Sweet as will try make it work, although I do have an e34 one on the way now.
  18. Do it, I’ll buy the diff off you
  19. Don’t have the space or time unfortunately
  20. Only selling as complete package or willing to split? Interested in the diff. already have m52, zf box, sump etc
  21. Same when I put my 135i up for 65k one day

Keeping busy working on the m52 while the car is at the panelbeaters. Even managed to get some free labour, my girlfriend helped me over the weekend and we got the valve cover back on with a fresh gasket a couple dots of rtv and some freshly zinc coated oem hardware. Pulled the sump off, wire tied the oil pump nut. Realised I’ve got the wrong oil pick up, traded it for the one I’m after which should be here Friday. Chopped the rear sump oil pickup support bracket off the windage tray to make the front sump fit. Picked up the engine with the crane to get access to the rear of it and replaced the rear main seal. Back on the stand now, ready to sort out the sump situation. Just need to figure out what to do about the dipstick tube, the one I’ve got doesn’t look quite right. Also drew up and waterjet cut a little oil lever sensor delete plate out of some 10mm aluminium. Sealed on with some rtv, was too lazy to mill an oring groove. i do have a spare one of these as well if anyone is looking for a solution to the hole in their oil pan, oem version is NLA. Hopefully get some more work on the engine done this weekend. If anyone has the correct dipstick tube + dipstick for a front sump for an m52 let me know.

Finally got things moving with the e30. Fixed the touareg last week, so hired a trailer, rolled the e30 out the garage and down the driveway, loaded it up and took it to the panelbeater. It’ll be there for 2-3 weeks getting the rust hole fixed, the engine bay resprayed and the boot lip area rust will be sorted as well. picked up an engine crane off my mate, and made a start on the m52 refresh. Did the vanos rebuild last night, took a couple attempts to get the bearing preload right but not too bad. Reinstalled that hopefully it all works nicely. so far plan is to replace rear main and it’s housing gasket, sump gasket, valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket. Wire tie oil pump nut, delete the oil level sensor from the e34 oil pan, and do fresh oem pcv System. Anything else that’s work doing? Do the front timing covers ever leak? Seems like a bit of a pain to do with it being jammed up under the head gasket.
  24. Sweet as I’ll take a look at your thread
